In this video, I attempt to paint one of the alloy wheels with no prior experience, only access to Halfords, B&Q and the internet.
This is NOT a how-to video. It's just me sharing my experience of doing this with you.
BE SURE TO WATCH PART 2 - I repaint the wheel for a much better finish!

Just to be clear, this is NOT a How To video and I am NOT a professional. This video is about me sharing my experience of doing this for the first time 😊 Watch me finish this in PART 2 kzhead.info/sun/pbdrnZ2uepmQrHA/bejne.html
The idiots that down voted this will make the same mistakes and not learn from your experiences. Thanks for posting this. Life is a learning process.
10outta ten for effort my friend👍
Hehe looks good
Out of all the videos I've watched tonight, this is the one I should have watched first - it's made me realise what a mammoth task I have ahead of me and how little I knew! I'm sure you won't take offence at me but watching someone do it and it not turning out well is more educational than watching all the know-it-alls - thanks for sharing!
Thanks, I'm glad you found my video helpful
When he said it’s “ not too far what it looked like originally” I fuckn fell out 😂😂😂
How not to videos are actually very helpful too!
Looks like it was sanded with a hedgehog! you needs to spend a lot more time on prep before you paint!
+matt goodall Yeah, if the prep was better, the finish would have been much smoother
+mrdealx Thanks! You're right, this was my first time doing it.
Hold on.. aren't you ment to wrap sandpaper around the sander block then sand.. not sand with the block.. no wonder you struggled 🤣😀 good video anyways
Respect, John. Others can learn from seeing how much prep is really needed, as much as from seeing a pro do a perfect job. You said yourself you could have re-tried but the car didn't warrant it. I try to park well way away from kerbs. Nearly cried when I saw a lady this week scrape _both_ nearside ali wheels along the pavement (2016 car). Loud graunching noise-ouch!-but she got out and seemed unaware.
Thanks! I'm glad you understood the purpose of the video. I felt it would be a good idea to show people how to avoid making the same mistake as I did. I know what you mean! It's painful to see new or expensive alloys scratched up.
Inspiring. Takes me back a few years on how I use to kit out and add some sparkle to my car.
Great attempt. I'm going to try and recondition my alloys soon.
Think the reason why everyone likes your video is because its realistic. Good effort.
I admired your integrity, it's a great video for others to learn from. Thank you
You identified what you did wrong when you did something wrong and from it you've learned. Trial and error is the best way to learn anything and I respect you for uploading this and pointing out what not to do haha. All these people hating drive their parent's car and any damage is paid for with daddys money lol, Awesome video man, I learned from this and am now pretty much ready to do mine :D
I don't know if I'm too late, but what was the equipment you used in the video
Keep going, bro! Great Job and you will improve. Don't listen to the haters!
+Ali Alghamdi thanks bro!

+Cloudsy Thanks! All the best with yours
+Cloudsy Thanks! All the best with yours
Thank you for your experience. I haven't driven in 3 years since I passes my driving test. Finally got my car and started to practice. One thing I noticed when I came back was scratches on my rim and I can't even remember if it was there before. I think I must of scratched it when I was parking. Bummed out since they were new rims. I seen some of ChrisFix video and planning to do the rims. Not now since it's winter, rather wait till Jan to do it but in the mean time, learning how to do it properly. I glad I watched you video and nice insight. Professional makes it so easy but I think this is a valuable experience to have. The material doesn't cost much, only your time but if you learn this skill, then you can carry it with you. It cost in the hundreds to get it done by a professional. Anyway, question, how did you decide your alloy color, I was thinking of going to Halfords and buy the paid from there or did you buy from a garage?
Thanks! I just picked up a can from Halfords but the colour match was slightly different from the rest of the wheels. I think I’ll get colour matched paint when I do this again.
Good job thank you for sharing with us, we all learn as we go
Thanks
keep up the good work John, we learn by trying and doing... God Bless : )
Jimmy Favereau Thanks Jimmy :)
Well done bro
Well explained and not too bad a first attempt.
+David C Thanks David
this is a real life video probably something I would have done
Not a bad first attempt. Must always remember that prep is key.
Danny Allan Thanks
This was a good honest video for a first time try at repairing curb rash. Looks like more filler and then sanding with some glazing putty for the pin holes in the filler. Nice try though.
Good attempt keep up the hard work
Ash K Thanks
I have to say good effort. rushed job but I like how you explained everything
Thanks Ryan
Flap disc or drum sander would have been so helpful. Good first try.
Thanks, I recently bought a sander
Which sprays you used ?
I bought the sprays from Halfords. Grey primer and silver alloy paint.
What can I say, you should have used a lot more of sanding paper to make it more smooth...
got a lot of time for this video dunno why lol good effort
+laksftw Cheers
Nice first try.
Be much easy if you use grinder instead off sanding block. Should spend more on prep wheel mate.
Yeah ok well...i gave it a thumbs up. I also tried to remove some rust on my car last year, sanding down, putting on rust remover, filler, base code and clear code and it came out shit but not as bad as looked like with the rust. The rust was gone, that counted for me so yeah, its cool if you try those things on your own, you save money and you'll get better and better...DIY repairs are not known for replacing the work of professionals but at least some money can be saved until you can pay a professional for the job
After watching this I attempted to bash my own head in with an alloy wheel.
😂😂😂 sounds painful
lol at your caption. nice
you needed to sand more then sand with fine and use spay filler, wet n dry it.well thats my guess lol.
Thank you for taking the time to show us how to do this John! You're a diamond!
You're welcome Ann! Sure you can.
If ppl have that much gutter rash on there rims they seriously need to learn distance judgment when parking 😂
Degrease than sand! You risk driving crap into the surface to haunt you later. Before painting use a prepaint wash.. not a degreaser which is common but wrong.
+Dan Walter I'll bear that in mind for next time
you should have not put the brake cleaner on after you wet it, the brake clean just sits on top of the water and doesnt penetrate the brake dust
+rob heathcote that makes sense
+JohnOmi sorry for pointing that out, other than that i liked what you did, and for a first attempt, it was a good effort, good stuff
Rim was junk to begin with u gave it a try lol
No locking wheels nuts shit boy, you must be trippin!
The previous owner lost the key
You stole it right?
Lol no
This is how to half do them 😈😈😈
This isn't a how to video. But if you want to see me finish the other half of it, watch part 2. kzhead.info/sun/pbdrnZ2uepmQrHA/bejne.html
👍👍😭😭😂😂😂
😂😂😂
Alla fine sono rigati come prima e con una bombolettata di colore😧
Alot of work for the same result lol, i guess thanks for showing the world what NOT to do.
More effort in the sanding and it would’ve come out a lot better the first time round. In Part 2 I sanded it down again by and it it looked much better. Electric may be the way to go
paper mache wheel :(
You do need to spend a lot more time on your prep work but for DIY work it could be a lot worse.
Yeah it was the prep that let me down first time round
Its a learning process and you only make the big mistakes once. Its more important imo that people actually take an interest in looking after their vehicles etc :)
That’s true! :)
Also important that people can see others make honest mistakes as it helps them. A lot of people would've just taken the video down and re-done it after being told "Looks like it was sanded with a hedgehog".
Keep working bro. Peace
Looks terrible 😩
Lol
szar lett
They look shit sorry
Not sure what to say about this..well done for trying but i think its fair to say the end result is somewhat of a disaster. can i give you some advice, alloy wheel refurbishment is about patience and attention to detail and quality products. Its often more cost effective to replace the rim.
+Ian Mines Agreed, i got a much better result in when I redid it in part 2. In this case, replacing the wheel is cheaper.
my 5 year old could have done better
Really?? Wow! I would love to see your 5 year old attempt to refurb a wheel.
