nice work! I'd definitely do this if I knew my wife wouldn't demolish the wheels again moments after I finished.
Can't help you with that one bud
Sounds like she needs some steelies and a set of Wal-mart covers.
Ak2112. Thanks for pointing out most of deal with 😂 U gotta love him
Just admit it: Its you!! 😂😂
I call BS on any guy who says he hasn't run up against a curb and damaged a rim.
Amazing! I was looking at picking up some scuffed wheels from the junkyard, but I was hesitant since I wasn't sure how to handle refinishing them, but now I am more confident buying them. Thank you for the video!
Glad I could help!
I cant believe iv only just discovered this channel recently the videos are exactly the stuff I love to watch I have an older 2003 Volvo v40 and I love to keep it looking good but I have to do all of this on a budget as my kids always have and will come first. This is a great channel that really explains things fantastically....definitely makes you wanna do it yourself.
Great feedback 👍🏻
Good on you putting the kids first! Love to see it, also hope your Volvo is in tip top shape and brings you joy when you drive it!
Absolutley brilliant very well explained unlike others I’ve watched well done sir great job
Thankyou
@@cvrpov This method can not be applied on rims that have dymond cut-face specially if the owner wants to look the same because in dymond-cut face of wheels the tires need to be removed from rims then rims taken to a CNC face machine to reface the lip, then the wheel need to be rebalanced after tire was mounted on..
Your work is incredible, this is what I call a top of the line curb rash repair, un like other uploaders who claim to fix curb rash and all they do is paint over the damage
Thanks for watching and feedback
I built a “lazy Suzanne “ out of a base off of an old junk swivel reclining chair. Flip it over so that the round base is facing up. I can easily rotate the wheel to evenly cover the entire wheel without making 50 laps around the wheel. I used to end up with some areas that the paint was a bit thin because i could not see some places.
Awesome story
Wonderful job, and great on you for sharing the playing card tip. Reusing a pack of cards is way cheaper and reduces waste than using masking tape. Respect fella 👍
No problem thanks for watching
Thank you so much for the time you take to share this excellent work with us Keep up the good work 💪😃
feedback like this keeps me going
@@cvrpov please do your best Many people have benefits of your good work Keep going 😄
I did detailing for 15 years on high end cars and daily drivers that was enough for me glad im done!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Graft mate
Fantastic video. Very well explained. Will do mine soon!
Cheers
Awesome quality of work!!!
Thanks
that was just stunning bro what an amazing job done and great content bro
Thanks Kian
This is a fantastic video. You can use a small piece of hose to mask the tyre valve.
Thanks for watching and good tip
Hello great video I was thinking of repairing my curb rash but was wondering will this throw off the balance of the wheel? Ne advice is helpful. Thanks again.
You're the Chrisfix of our nation 😂 love it mate deffo gonna fix up my alloys in a few weeks with this video on repeat!!
Haha I've a long wag to go before I reach anywhere near Chris's level. I need more subs!
Brilliant, thanks!
Great job guy ! I have a Chrysler crossfire convertible I’ll be doing this to. Waiting for a sanding kit for my impact drill. Thanks
Thanks Mike 👊🏻
Good work and a great tutorial.
Thanks Gary
Great vid. Showed me everything in detail. Thank you
No problem
End result looks great!!
Thanks
You make it look easy!
That is an excellent job! Great video!
Cheers Fred
Nice work!!
Thank you! Cheers!
@2:01 I love how even your cat was impressed. Cat: weow 🙀
Thtas my 3 yr old 😅
@@cvrpov 😂😂😂😂😂 this got 100% more wholesome.
Haha real life mate
Curious how you prevent overspray to the inside walls when spraying. Great channel
That was a very good job. The finish looked like factory and you can’t really tell if the wheel was ever touched up.
Thanks for watching
I just did this. I went another route. Got a set of metal filers. Filed it down to a smooth surface. And just used touch up paint. Came out pretty good and quick. Finding the color match is always trial and error
Whatever works
Can you share a video of what u did
@@smileplease444 I wanna see too
All German brands use Wurth silver wheel paint, which is also very close to VW reflex silver.
Thanks for your nice detailed explanation. 👍👍
No problem Thanks for watching
Great job as always
Thanks pal
I have been looking for a video like this for Ages! I am f glad I found it.. Could you please add a few more HashTags in your video so other people can find it easily? You are a Legend mate!
Thanks for watching!
beautiful job
Fantastic job looks great 👍
Thanks paul
Your the MAN....stay safe mate
Thanks for the support buddy
Wow, you really know you're stuff, excellent !
Thank you! Cheers!
Beautiful job
Thanks
Nice job, I would use etch primer for bare aluminium to aid the bonding.
This can help yes
When you are all done, we are all ready to get more Rim Rash.
Ok lol
@@cvrpov I was just kidding. You did a great job of making the RIM look like new again. Thanks for the procedure. Take care.
nice job mate
Thanks for watching!
Great video . Thanks 😊
Cheers Fabian
I take my wheels to the tire store to get them to break the bead, this greatly eases the entire process. Use red scotch brite pads to scuff up areas that does not need repairs . i use an orbital sander with 120 grit and that is all you need to repair the curb damages. Wet sand with 320 grit on a pad to remove any swirl marks. Use a large trash bag cut a hole and wrap the wheel, it takes a minute instead of using tape to mask around tires.
Everyone has their methods
I think youre overestimating how many people have an orbital sander
Well done lad, good video and enjoyable music.
Thanks for watching mate
Good job mate
Thanks
Top job again mate
Nice one rich
Good job, excellent 👍
Thankyou 👊🏻
Wow ...well done !!
Thankyou
Good work. Could you demonstrate how a brushed effect wheel could be fixed?
I have done loads of wheel repair vids mate check out my playlist
A really lovely job! (If you use playing cards, always face them downwards to save spoiling the playing side 😊) happy days..
Haha good tip and thanks for watching
As someone that does this for a living day day out it’s good instructions very knowledgeable. The only goof up is using primer. If you notice most rims have 0 primer it’s not needed and is just a layer that can cause problems. As someone who’s been in auto body for 17 years trust me I know it sounds wrong but feather put your damage and paint right on the metal.
I dont usually use primer. I was trying to be "pc" for the video. Agree with ur points
@@cvrpov As an ex painter, you need to read the instructions on the paint you are using if primer is required for the bare metal, manufacturers will use paints created to suit the wheel material to save time and costs. you don't want the paint start falling off the repairs at the 1st chip or scratch. I think most paints are 1 step now but do check
etch primer is a good idea on ally for decent adhesion. more particularly in cases like this where the substrate is mixed - as you can clearly see the manufacturer used both primer and colour.
Nice job! How do handle the inner 'barrel' of the wheel? Mine are full of brake dust, grime and grit.
Give them a good clean up. I did a video on this with some spraying at the end of it. See the playlist and wheel repair section
Very good work and a great result. By the way, it's KERB as in the pavement kerb not 'curb'which is a verb which means to moderate or lessen.
I'm better at fixing cars than writing, clearly
In American and Canadian English, the noun meaning the edge of a sidewalk or roadway is spelled curb.
@mr.b4444 Strange English in North America, however this channel is by an English guy.
That's great buddy I've enjoyed your video
Great
you did a great job! How can you balance wheels, when you unevenly sanded it around, does it makes problems?
If its out, rebalance it. Its really very little weight removed. Than very little weight is added with the paint.
Nice job! thaks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Brilliant !!
🙌🏽
Awesome job👍👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Good to see a proper thorough repair being shown rather than various faddy quick fix methods.
Thanks for watching 👍🏻
With the sanding, can you use a sander rather orbital, or does it have to spin
Both will work but something that spins offers better cut
U did a Hella job sir
Thanks
Great demo and video, well explained! one question, did you remove clearcoat at the start and how did you remove it?
No. Just key up old clear as long as its stable
It’s not gonna pass a winter without pealing. Only good for summer….
Great job!👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice work.
Thanks!
Great job! Would you recommend they’re rebalanced after this sort of work is carried out?
Ideally yes. Altho in theory a wheel is unbalanced after being damaged anyway.
awesome! I needed an excuse/reason to buy a grinder so the wife wouldn't get mad. thanks for the video!😊
Haha glad I helped with the grinder purchase. This was a rotary polisher used in the video though just making that aware
Outstanding tutorial cheers Brenton from Tangambalanga Victoria Australia😊😊😊😊🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Thanks Brenton
Great video. Should you not wet Sand with a high grit before applying lacquer though?
No. You could wet sand with 1000 grit if u like
Looks lovely, with a good sidewall shine, those wheels would pop
I think so too!
I hear ya!
Good
Brilliant. 👍 😎 👍
Cheers
Wow! Nice. What does materials add up to? Discs, primer, paint and clear coat ….
I do my paintgear kits which inc all discs, backing plate and scotch for 19.99. I think you could get the lot for £40.00 which is less than 1 wheel repair
@@cvrpov That sounds cheap - 👍🏻 Thanks for your reply.
Amazing
Thankyou
Excellent, will this be the same process for aluminum polished rims?
I have more videos that might help in wheel repair playlist
Class upload subbed👍
The support is appreciated
Thanks for the video. Two front wheels have the same curb damage, however may just take it into a Pro... Although I do have an angle grinder.... thanks for sharing. Would you recommend the wheels are re-balanced or its so minimal that this shouldn't be needed?
Safety 1st obviously but if its very minimal then perhaps won't need balancing
You did a good job of outside of the wheel but you do the inside of the wheel which would have had a lot of over spray?
Mask off if needed
Thanks.good job m8.
No probs
Very nice Job
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice job! How do you find OEM color code for the rims ?
I use Ford moondust silver or BMW titan silver for most wheel refurb. Audi alloys are sometimes done with a brighter silver tho.
@@cvrpov Does either of those colors not have metallic? I'm trying to match the badges on my shelby and they're a brite silver without metallic and satin finish
Great video. Thanks for putting this together. What colour did you use? I also have a Volvo and want to give this a go. Thanks again.
Ford moondust silver is a good all rounder
Good work, what type gun and what size compressor do you run
I use a 90ltr compressor and for wheels I alternate between an old devilbiss sri 1.2 and an lph 80 iwata 1.2. 1.0 are also suitable for wheel repairs
Very nice. What tape do you use for tires? Nothing seems to stick!
Wipe wheels with thinners and a rag 1st. I did a short on this
Amazing job, you have a new subscriber and thank you so much!!!!
Thanks for subbing!
wow amazing
Thanks
Thank you so much for your great videos. Hello from California! QQ. How long did it take you to restore the rim? And is that a service you offer? Thanks again.
You are a world treasure, sir. PRIMER question: regular, or filler type? I guess it depends on level of damage on face, but wanted your thoughts. My focus is the kerb rash, which the eye is naturally drawn to first. Cheers from Oregon, USA!
The best primer you can get your hands on and budget suits. Some filling properties would be a bonus but always make sure your prep is as good as u can get it and don't rely on primer to hide marks you've left
Hi mate - great vid! Do u have links for your air compressor and spray gun? Cheers. Alex
compressor abac 90ltr 3hp belt driven. devilbiss sri pro
@@cvrpov cheers mate!
Thanks for this! Is the speaker from Mansfield by any chance?
Haha yes I am round that way nowadays
Great video. If you had a few deep marks on the wheel that are purely cosmetic. Can you recommend a type of filler, if thats at all possible? Also, is it an etch primer that you used please?
I have used normal body filler before. Also 2pac mitre fast glue with activator (did a video on it also). I use normal primer. Etch is obviously probably the most proper way of doing things but I find it a bit overkill
What are you using for PPE? Gloves, respirator? I've picked up some 2K clear but have read some nasty things about the chemicals.
Gloves and a gerson mask (like the one in my profile logo). In enclosed spaces Ideally you need an air fed. Regular use of 2k clear can be harmful if proper ppe is not used.
Hi mate, your videos are brilliant. Do you deflate the tyres a little to sand or leave them as they are? Im gonna practice on my wifes car wheels but there doesnt look like much space between the tyre and the alloy to use the rotary sander.
Some tyres/alloys are more tricky than others when it comes to how close the tyre and alloy is. Ideally u should break the bead but deflating can help a bit also. Just be very steady and take ur time. Sometimes playing cards jammed in the gap can help
After the primer needs to be fully cured to Sand? And the 600 grit to sand, we sanding dry rigth, and then degrease again the wheels?
Good clip
Thanks
They do look good as you say but do the wheels need balancing again as different amount of material has been removed around the wheel.
I think you should balance ur wheel after Amy type of work
Finally a video that explains everything and show you what to buy. I love you man gotta repair my Supra wheels this summer can’t wait !!! Where do i get the rotary tool itself!? I looked on Amazon but will it fit the kit you sale?
Welcome aboard mate. Any rotary with variable speed will do. Just get a cheap one off of amazon. Most should be m14 thread which fits the www.paintgear.co.uk backing plate 👍🏻
@@cvrpovnice i just ordered one on Amazon right now. Would you be able to see if it fit if I’m able to send you a picture some how on IG or something?
How have they held up?
Looks great did you not rebalance the wheels?
I always recommend to rebalanced the wheels after any work on them has been done
Subbed liked. Gr8 quality content. 1 question. Audi wheel colour. Which is the brightest that can be bought in the UK. I thought ford star dust silver was brightest ford did.👍
Thanks for the sub 👍🏼 i sometimes use audi 8z8 for wheels.
@@cvrpov diamond silver. Yeah you know your stuff.
What did you do behind the spokes and in the barrel? Mine are cruddy and disgusting so would think they'd need to be sanded down and refinished too? I'm not concerned about cosmetic, more that the fresh new finish on the front won't seal and will eventually peel off around the edges?
Yes these areas will need flatting and leveling out you are correct in what your saying. Sand any damaged or flaking paint and apply a top coat
nice one mate, I would have dressed the tyre for a full finished effect.. I just subscribed, cheers from down under.
Yeah I like a dressed tyre but being a sprayer it's like poison to us
@@cvrpov cheers
How long does the paint last? I regulary wash my car, but they don't survive a half year. I cleaned, primer, spray paint and used clear coat (3 layers). Even tried different brands of paints. I must be doing something wrong!
does a wheel need balancing after this? or is the amount of material that is taken off not important?
How do you ensure the correct color of paint, or is there a standard silver finish. I have a jaguar xkr 07 and need to do this... bad
I use Ford moondust silver for a good general all rounder
