I'm an Aussie & am partial to 'chockers' (I spell it that way, not the way you did!) 'Spewing' is a terrific throwback to my 80s teenage years 😁 And of course, who doesn't love 'taking the piss'? 😂
Hey, mate! I actually went back and forth on the spelling of chokkas/checkers 😂 I wonder if the nation would be as divided as we are on parmie/parma?!!! What d’ya reckon?
@@mmmEnglish_EmmaMate, it's definitely parma 😅

Do most of these words have a similar etymological origin, i.e., do they typically source from England or America or are they without any external linguistic contamination?
I'm Australian with a British family. I hope Emma answers this, I'd be interested. What I know (which is little) is that some is from UK. We obviously used to have a lot of influence from the UK. Like rhyming slang (when she said...I'm going to hit the frog and toad - which means road) That is very British. Some words (not necessarily slang) are the same as words used in America (but not as many when compared to the UK.) Then Australia has developed (and adapted) their own language as well. I'd love Emma to give us stats and more detailed info on this.
Brilliant answer! Some of these slang words and expressions are distinctly Australian (for example “sanga”) but quite a few are used in the UK too.
Thanks a million Emma i want you the more slang cauz i loved these series❤
Emma, I loved it all!❤
Your English pronunciation just awesome 🎉
*_Hey there, Emma once again!✋ I'm always in the ninth cloud to see you 'n' watch your adorable lessons every_* *_day, every time ! ! ! Hopefully, you're having a good week!👌_* *_So, I've just learned your fantastic PDF workbook today off by heart, it was so great to know such awesome 'n'_* *_unusual phrases! 'On the piss' is the best phrase ever, gonna use it all the time haha.

You are welcome!
Nice lesson, pretty teacher 😍
Thanks!
I really thank you for this video clip ❤
Thanks a lot Emma your video in the right time I was watching your old video about Aussie slang
No worries!
Thank you much, cute Emma, my lovely Teacher! These phrases you share in this brilliant lesson are exactly what I've been learning these days, precisely what I desperately need! I learn the British slang (with Lucy, you know her well) and the Aussie slang as well, it's common now for me. Of course, my separate gratitude for the PDF, I always use PDFs if they come along with your videos, truly! Keep up your excellent work, Emma! My kisses for you!🥰
I am from Hong Kong and like your KZhead very much. Interesting and provoking.
I like " wrap your laughing gear around that" it is do colorful...😊
Oh, this evening I feel under the pump 🤪 I'll have to come back to this video because you pushed me away from my comfort zone 😅 Thank you so much Emma for this interesting lesson 👍
If I've pushed you outside of your comfort zone, I'm happy! That is where real learning happens! If Australian Slang is not essential knowledge for you (as in, you don't live in Australia or talk to Australians often) then it's good to know this slang exists (so you can ask about it when you encounter it) but you don't need to study/remember/use it yourself! Prioritise the English words and phrases that are relevant to you ❤️
@@mmmEnglish_Emma thank you for taking care of me with your answer Emma, you made my day 😎
That was carzy! Hahaha my favorite may be was the "a loose unit"
Iam from India kerala state. I always favour on your english teaching method. Congratulations
Thanks for watching!
Dear Madam Teacher Emma, thanks a lot for this marvellous lesson! For example -one of my favourite slang words is : legend ( so nice and cute).I think (my humble opinion),that Australia is great place with great people. I admire YOU and I admire Australians. Thanks, mate! You're bloody legend! 🫶
"Sanga" is my favourite Australian slang.

You're so welcome!
This was new to me, It is really unusual than American English as i use in The Philippines. Btw, Telly was the word getting into my head. I mean my favorite word,

❤❤❤THANK YOU SOOOOOOOO MUCH 😊 😘 ❤️ EMMA ❤❤❤ all of these are my favorite 😍
Wow 😊 Thanks a lot
You're so welcome!
This is interesting because I’m from the UK and some of the phrases mean the exact same here like Telly and Taking the Piss but some have different meanings like tight means you’re frugal and cheap not you have a good relationship
Interisting class, Teacher. Greetings from Mexico.
Glad you liked it!
Tks for support❤
LOVE it Emma! Know most of these as a "Canuck," or Canadian!

@@mmmEnglish_Emmahi Emma, thank you so much and I got the PDF which helped a lot! I plan to do a daily review with the new phrases and words learnt from here and track my progress. Thanks again
I'm so grateful with this video Emma, I would like to go to work to Australia in 2026, especifically to Goald Coast.
That’s a cool area! ☀️ This conversation practice will definitely help you prepare!
Emma I love your channel you really teach English so clearly and easy to remember but I live in Canada and I dont know which phrases and slangs could be mutual. Do you have any recommendations for me to better use your videos?
If you take a look at the workbook, I’ve included some notes about the words that are common across other “Englishes” 😊
Tight, knock off and one for the road are the only ones that are used exactly the same in American slang. Interesting how many of those are unique to Australia.
Ahhhh I was wondering if “knock off” was common in the US too!!! You’ve just answered my question 🙏🏼
Pasu mecha emma your class was great!. Useful mexican expression 😅
Thanks Emmmma
You are the most amazing person ❤️ dear I enjoyed watching your videos 💝
Australia is a dreamland for me, when I was very young I used to watch an Australian Sci fi Serie called "the girl from tomorrow" it's amazing TV Serie and also it is a land of pretty animals like budgerigar or parakeet birds, parrots, lorikeets, koala and kangaroo. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Indeed, you must come to visit one day!
Best English teacher
🥰
I'm addicted to Emma ❤ I love you 😘
Hello Teacher you were LEGEND in this class
haha thank you! Remember that it's a countable noun, so it should be 'you are *a* legend!'
@@mmmEnglish_Emma Thank you so much Teacher I didn’t know, it was a countable noun Noted 😊
I love watching footy, especially it’s coming towards final now.
Footy finals is always an exciting time of year! Who do you go for?
@@mmmEnglish_Emma I go for Melbourne Storms but I also go for Sydney Roosters. They are playing this Friday. I don't know which team to cheer up. And you, Emma?
Hello Emma, could you please do a video about how to write formal and informal emails and also how to respond to complaints.thank
Noted!
That was fun 🙏💖☮️
Listening from Australia 🇦🇺
Fantastic
Thank you!
شكرا جزيلا لحضرتك
Wow, I used to live in Brisbane, but this was a lot of slang.
Did some of these words sound familiar?!
Hey Em I have a question ❓ Is there any kind of men community like the hay lady one that I can join , in order to put into use what I am learning?
Ma'am please upload passive voice part 2
I like "sickie" (in German: "Blau machen") the most and I already knew ;) I think you missed "tinnie" 🍺 as a daily expression.
There are so many words for ‘a beer’ in Australia, so it’s hard to choose just one!! - stubbie; tinnie; coldie (or cold one); frothy; the list goes on…
Namaste ma'am from India I decided to get it cleared today by u. My job is a work controller, I need to note down events happen in office diary against time of events. Give instructions and note down action taken. Past simple passive I am using. Is it ok or wrong? Help me
I like you calling a sandwich a sanga. Charming!
The best is the Chinwag! I can imagine two chatting skeletons :)
