Wow that thing does sound pretty good, better than I expected for that small of an engine
What's more, it sounds better than many big 4-cylinder engines.
@@rus1k169 right?! very impressive!
hey brother
Definitely not for no $999 though lol
@@bf2gammer ouch! that is quite pricey 😬. Still pretty cool to see
this must be the best miniature engine so far
It's awesome
I think so too bro

Given how skilled you are with a multi axis cnc lathe, I'd really like to see you build a full engine from raw stock.
He did a video where he did so one I thought
@@RobertWilliams-mu7qx I think he means full size. Yeah, he already built a scale from scratch.
He doesnt have a cnc lathe?
@@AtMortenJ yes, he does. That's what the OP said in his comment. I don't know how you got to thinking that, that comment somehow meant he doesn't have one.
@@JesusDisciple916 he has a 5 axis mill, not a lathe
Sounds absolutely phenomenal. The difference proper adjustable valves make on one of these little engines is night and day. All the other engines you've shown with wobbly valve assembly's don't sound as crisp as this one
Right! I've watched johnny build and run many engines but this one has a very satisfying sound to it. Sounds mean!
Follow Jesus and he will transform your life.(its your choice)
I like how peaceful these videos are, just the mechanic sounds and no non-copyright music
Sweet! 3d metal printed parts are really going to be a game changer for miniatures😎
This one is impressive! With oiling system and multi ring pistons etc. And it actually sounds great. Still quite expensive at $800 + having to buy spark plugs etc. I would seriously consider buying one if I could get the full set with < $600. With all the development in engine models in these years hopefully I won't need to wait much longer
Definitely. It wasn't very long ago that an engine like this would be a custom commission from a grey-beard machinist that'd cost you new-car money. Granted the engine you'd get from that would be absolutely beautiful and run like a dream, but it's still two orders of magnitude more expensive and took a person like 3 months to make as opposed to this working micro engine that is made on an assembly line in probably about 3-6 hours. Wild that that's possible now.
@@Teth47 Our current factory production abilities allows way better than this. The limiting factor is to have customers. So it's the slow ramp-up of customers expecting more that is the limiting factor for progress. If you get only 100 customers, then the tooling/setup cost is huge per produced engine. No one wants to make "the best" engine and set the sales price the same as a high-volume competitor and just hope that maybe, maybe you will get enough customers to find the product and leave the multiple competitors same-price, less-quality high-volume products. Because more parts still means more production cost. So you need not just same but actually much higher sales volumes to shrink the tooling cost and manage to still get the same profit level.

That’s probably the best sounding little engine I can remember from your videos. Love the channel man.
Love how you've always made custom parts to these mini engines. Would be awesome if you somehow had a mini dino to see the performance difference with your modifications
How would a miniature dinosaur help him measure the performance? 🦖🦕
Dinasours are very vague so probably on a 1 - 5 scale with 1 being bad and 5 being good
@@stevenking8884 so is it 1 or 5?
@@jboymiller17 what am I the director of Jurassic Park?
You idiots, @JohnMiller means dyno like to measure the horsepower
It does indeed sound like half a stinger 609! That's awesome, I really hope this engine goes towards something.
When are people gonna start putting these is rc cars
That is one the best sounding and running engines I've heard you run yet. This one has potential.
Wow that exhaust manifold is crazy impressive for 3d printed. Absolutely incredible what a laser and pile of powder can do these days.
Hi there how’s your day going today?
@@lisabonesteel963 Great Thank you for asking
You should make a miniature flow bench and start testing and porting/polishing the heads for your different motors. Also it'd be hilarious to see the flow numbers.
The build quality on this one is exceptional, compared to model engines I've seen in the past! Just the fact that it has the normal 3 main bearings that most 4 cylinders should have, a cam-in-block design, metal piston rings, a real oil pump, and actually carries oil in the crankcase, is a game changer. Reliability is going to be MUCH better than the usual nitro motors that depend on the fuel for lube. If the oil pump is working like it should, you shouldn't actually need that much oil in the crankcase? Anyway, sounds pretty good. Well done Johnny!😁👍
Honestly, if it weren't for the high cost, I'd buy one right now. The fact that it seems to fully oil itself is, like you said, a game changer for reliability. And the fact that all the wear components seem to be replaceable is even better. As long as you can still get the parts, or can make them yourself that is. All it needs is a good transmission to go with it, and you could have yourself a hell of an RC car or truck. To be clear, I understand the high price for this compared to other engines, the build quality certainly looks to be worth it. I'm just broke as shit.
Came back after watching Donut Media's RC V8 engine. I didn't know it's that hard to assemble the engine. You made it look so easy.
I really like your editing. Quick cuts for quick stuff, slower for the closeup details.
That sounds amazing! Would be incredible to see a V8 block and crank built, and use two of these cylinder heads and piston/rod combos used in it.
Just imagine a V-12! Search "man builds ferrari model car" it shows a video of a guy who built a fully functional Ferrari from scratch...
An upgrade to 5 main bearings, a bigger cam, and a multi-carb intake would be good to include.
By far the best sounding one you have did yet.
You are the King of the Hobby! Sir I am always envious of your latest works. I wish I had the patience and know how, you set the bar higher than I dream. Thank you for sharing.
Quite a beautiful little engine, it looks like it could be converted to a 5 bearing crank relatively easily, though that might not be needed.
It sounds so good!
Nice to see a video of one of these little engine actually running on a fuel. Watched so many only to find out they use air to "run" them.
Wow I don’t think I’ve ever seen one start immediately. Nice engine!
Just ordered this guy, Hopefully it's not to difficult to setup and get going! (Piston rings 180deg apaprt, spark gap set ect) Excited to hear it in person though! Bet it looks amazing!
What’s the oiling system like? What exactly does the pump send oil to with the crank and bearings themselves not having provisions for it? I can see splash oiling for the crank being enough, but it didn’t look like the head had oil ports. I hope I’m wrong, because I want one - but long term run time scares me with the oiling system not seemingly doing much.
Not sure, ill have to let you know when mine ships. Only the panhead has shipped so far. Im sure it has means for splashingor sending oil about. Wont know until i get ahold of it and assemble it.
im waiting to see a tiny 4 or 6 cylender dual cam 16 / 24v it would sound amazing
Boxer with unequal length headers 🤔
I was gonna comment on how I’ve seen multiple of your videos other places and go into detail, but look like that’s already taken care of. You’re awesome dude.
@@JohnnyQ5032 lol I smell a scam
The throttle response on the second carb is nuts!
The intake and especially the header are next level. Great vid
I used to build little plastic models when I was a kid but now that I'm an adult I would love to put together one of these kind of models. Coming home from work and spending a couple hours putting a little model engine together and then being rewarded when you hear it run the first time would be so awesome. I wish they weren't so expensive though. Little out of my budget range for now. $1000 for the unassembled kit.. Ouch :(
Might as well get an engine from the junkyard and rebuild them for fun then resell them for a profit lol
@@Willppyro that would be one thing if it was my '67 V8 that I used to have. Before I had the truck that I have right now, I had a 98 Ford Ranger with a 4.0 V6. It was getting air into the coolant from somewhere. There was no oil in the water or water in the oil, but somehow compression gases were getting into the coolant system. A mechanic friend of mine came over and said he would help me take the heads off and put new head gaskets on. Holy crap! What a freaking chore that was. We ended up scrapping it because once we got in there we could see the Rings were bad and decided it was probably just needing a complete rebuild. Rebuilding a modern engine like that would definitely Not be fun for me. Way too much extra junk and no room to work. All these wires, plugs, and hoses just leave me scratching my head anymore. Give me an engine where the only wires going to it are to the ignition coil and the starter, and the only vacuum lines are going to the vacuum advance on the distributor and your vacuum brake booster. I would rebuild one of those anytime but these newer ones.. No Thank You. That's why these models are so appealing. It's just your basic engine with no frills. Plus.. I can't sit a regular engine on my desk.
@@Willppyro lol !
I would love to know how much torque/ hp that thing puts out, would be sweet to put in a spitfire ARF model
100% was not expecting it to sound that good
This is very cool to see these littles engines beeing built and then running. Thanks for your videos.
Hey bro you water mark your videos bc alot of your videos are being used own FB by other channels and taking credited...you should start controlling your videos on FB,youtube, tiktok ..they taking all your hardwork away....
Damn that's sad
Stealy Panda and others?
Yeah people suck
Tiktok people ☕
There’s the small one in the corner. But he needs a bigger more centralized one that can’t be cropped so easy
I noticed that a lot of these multi cylinder engines still use carburetors that go on single cylinder nitro engines. You might get better top end consistency with a larger carb that can handle the air-fuel volume 4 cylinders demand.
Or go individual carb per cyclinder. Though throttle tuning would be a nightmare.
@@sepg5084 I thought about that too and agree. Tuning 4 carbs would be near impossible.
That is the coolest thing I've seen on KZhead in many years!
this is actually a great way to learn components and assembly
Looking forward to a W16 Bugatti like engine. I know you can do it. Your machining precision and skills are unpaired. In any case, thank you for sharing with us your passion. Believe me when I say we all can feel it in every video you make.
will you be testing the power output of this engine? If it has roughly 0,3kW of power outpud it'll be perfect for my dream project of creating a gasoline powered rc tank which I estimated would weigh around 25kg. I wanna build the armout to scale
Mind me asking what model you're intending to build?
@@nickksoares I won't be able to start such a project before I'm done with my apprenticeship and I do need the funds and time for it but it is a dream of mine to build such a thing. And with metal 3D printing rapidly being developed for the consumer market it is only a question of will and sadly cash too
@@sirmrmcjack2167 casting is also very accessible, if you want to look into that
@@Andre_Thomasson that's a great idea actually! I've seen people 3D-print casts, maybe that works well enough for this project. It would certainly help with tiny detail work like exhaust pipes, sprockets and viewports
@@sirmrmcjack2167 yes yes thats exactly what i meant!
Hehe these are so fun! Way out of my budget but it’s nice watching you do it. Thanks for your effort!
Excellent video brother! I love how you explore with different carburetors!
What would a hydrogen motor or generator look like? Any such models?
This would be awesome in something like a Traxxas UDR! Also I think you may be able to get more rpm with a dual/triple carb setup.
for the fun of it just do itbs kekw
Great video! This engine has a lot of potential!
That’s such a lovely little engine! It sounds awesome
Sure you have enough coolant?
I would very much like to buy such a mini engine but in my opinion they are quite expensive and I can not afford it at the moment
I gotta get me one of those. Following the channel for quite some time now. Really hope I can get my hands on one of those mini engines and have a kiddo smile on my face.
I've been waiting all my life to see this 😢 this is super sick!!!!😊
Nice looking engine ... but the sound? Sorry but this "killer" sound is practically identical to a single cylinder nitro engine at half rpm. Nothing about this reminds me of an actual four-banger. When I read the title I thought this one was actually different than the rest of it's kind. Guess not. You know exactly what big engines and proper RC engines sound like, so a bit less clickbait man
Sounds like it's drowning ...In rocks.
This thing sounds incredible.. has a low tone unlike single cylinder nitros that sound like children screaming. You serious right now??
@@ThreeDPrintDesigns I am. This thing is straight-piped with even firing order, which means at 6k rpm it produces the exact same exhaust note as a 2 stroke single at 12k. So basically a 10ccm from a helicopter or plane at roughly half it's max rpm. Nobody, and certainly not me, made a comparison to a tiny 2.5 or 3.5cc comp. rc race car engine with a resonator pipe, screaming down the track at 45.000 rpm. If that's the only nitro engine sound you know (this 4-cyl. runs on nitro too btw. ) that's not my problem.
Are you autistic?
@@hellmonkey00 quality contribution, you just won the internets
Seriously impressive piston design for this small of scale.
That engine sounds about the best of any you have tried right out of the box.
The adjustment of the rocker arms would drive me insane! I could never do something so small and precise
this is one of the best sounding engines that i heard
I have been blessed by the KZhead recommendations once again
Never fail to impress johnny.
I hope it has the power to back up that sound! Can't wait to see what you put it in!
Ahhh I could watch this engine for hours..your a talented person to build it..and mod it up..respect. 😁
Τώρα σε ανακάλυψα φίλε. Εξαιρετική δουλειά.!!!
This small engine really sounds great for its size. Enjoyed the video this is a engine well made. Love your channel and content. ❤🇨🇦
That thing rips, love the sound.
Such a great sound! I need one of these little engines!
The title didn't lie it's sounds absolutely awesome
Wow, that really is the little engine that could!

I literally smiled and chuckled the whole video through......this engine is so cool. 😀
The best one so far!
Dropping a comment to tell you that donut media needs your help Love watching all your videos. Keep it up
Great, great video. It must have been fun building it.
My hats off to the machinist!
That's the coolest sounding one yet!
Wow,Awesome Video JohnnyQ90!!! That carb. replacement was a good idea! She sounds a lot more consistent (when it's idling) than before! Also, great choice to go with an electric water-pump as well!!! Great Build Man! Enjoyed watching this one!!! : >)
the best carb you can get for thoses is a real gas carb, like the one on The honda GX25 by exemple, thoses carb are for glow engine, not really good in precise fuel metering.
I love the adjustable rocker arms!
Es un minimotor muy bonito, todos sus componentes se ven con un acabado excepcional.El vídeo de su ensamblado y puesta en marcha es formidable.👌
MAN!!!!! THIS THING SOUNDS GREAT!!!!!
those 3d printed exhaust/intake components seem to make a true difference in power on this little thing, that and it sounds exceptional
I used to have a Kwak GPZ 550 that sounded exactly the same. Good job : )
I have been putting money aside for a big ol refrigerator. Barn door and slider freezer. Regular ice PLUS crunch ice. I can still make cube ice in my old fridge. Tooooo slick
best sounding engine on the channel to date
The engine plays very nicely! The turbo can go on it :D
i love this engine sound, it's like a real car one, the toyan was more like a bike or something. this one i want it!
that's cool man; what a great way to teach kids how internal combustion engines work~! Perhaps you could use it to power a long board once you improve the water pump component? Those new thermal camera apps and accessories are pretty handy eh. Keep up the good work Johnny.
These things are getting outta control! I remember years ago when Conley V8's were insanely expensive masterpieces. Now there's readily available kits that scream. What a time to be alive
Sounds significantly more powerful than your previous engines!
Hahah love the high speed barking dog in the background! :D
So impressive. Nice job! Donut needs to reach out to you to so they get theirs even started...
Sounds so nice what a masterpiece..
So glad to see an oil pump on this one! Where all does the pressurized oil go?
If you flip over the piston sleeve used to insert pistons into bore it works better. Great build
I think this thing needs a turbo now. Also a dyno test for a before and after. Good work brotha
Fantastic build! Sounds lean at W.O.T. though. I really liked the idle with the new carb.
Let's gooooo Johnny uploaded
I randomly came across your channel and have been going back through a number of your videos. Love the content! Made me want to get into the hobby myself. I had a question though, where did you get your handheld torque wrench you use (5:41 as reference)?
Wow that’s the first small engine.. what runs/ sounds like a real miniature engine. Also with spark plugs and not glow plugs it faces more to a real engine. Hope you will build something nice with it
I've been watching your channel for about a year now I'm just curious to see how many motors you have it would be cool to see them all set in a row to see what all motors you do have please and thank you
Really enjoy these videos, I'm getting into the hobby myself and I have questions. First, on a nitro engine, what are you using for the assembling oil? Are you putting in nitro fuel to pre lubricate the parts as you assemble them?
That wee SOB sounds SO COOL...
*having a non-turbo F20C SML* but honestly this is an amazing mini engine build ^-^
