  • I love how, because of the last video on mini engine building where a ton of people were questioning your timing of the cams, you show the TDC/timing marks/process on this one. :D

    @DaftFader@DaftFader Жыл бұрын
    • I'm thinking the poor exceleration is due to the timing being 12* Before TDC (top dead center), not 12* BELOW TDC, and work up from there, like it should be......

      @antilitarded4142@antilitarded4142 Жыл бұрын
    • There's no below TDC. You are timing on degrees of rotation before TDC. He is correct.

      @DaftFader@DaftFader Жыл бұрын
    • @@wigs1098 Either way, it still sounded like a timing issue whether it was retarded too much and needed to be advanced or visa-versa. I'm guessing one or two degrees different would have resolved it. But then a leaking front seal and by the look of the smoke, either the rear main seal or head gasket was starting to go too. Some of the parts weren't machined all that well too which made me wonder about the overall quality of the system although it is still very cool.

We used to throw a trash can lid like a frisbee before the frisbee was invented. Built a go-cart, couldn't afford a gasoline engine so we used a electric bench grinder motor. Worked great until the extension cord ran out of range. We only dreamed of stuff like this.

  • You probably get quite a bit better behaviour setting the ignition timing to 28 degrees BTDC. This finally looks like an engine that is designed with doing serious runtime in mind, Like the centrifugal cooling pump and the geared oil pump.... Hate the fact that they are belt-driven: No oil pressure alarm, no cooling water temperature alarm, so a snapped belt will lead to near immediate selfdestruction. Solution: place a motion detector on either one of the pumps, that shuts down ignition if no RPM is detected. That will with 100% certainty be an engine saver, because those belts ARE going to snap... The valve adjusters also are most likely going to lead to trouble, and to remove them, the head needs to come off or there is not enough clearance to move the valves.

  • Yo i like how the bearings are kept from spinning in place, theoretically, by some sort of hardware. Im sure some ungodly amount of torque can get them to spin but this will help prevent that. 🤘🏽✌🏽👍🏽 awesome vid as always

    • @@davelowets with hardware directly on the bearing? Maybe hard wear holding a bracket that holds the bearing, but im talking about a bolt in direct contact to the casing of the bearing itself like in this engine in this video. Yea some engines do have that but not every engine.

    • @@tomaslongoria2449 I'm not a big fan of screwing the end of a fastener into the side of a bearing race to hold it in place. The race of the bearing can easily be crushed out of round by a fastener that's a touch too long, or by too much torque on the fastener. I prefer the normal way with split bearing shells with tangs on them to keep them from spinning in tje housing.

Normally flatheads aren't stellar for power or efficiency, but it probably will run for a very long time! I really appreciate that this has actual spark plugs and ignition system, as well as an oil system, pretty cool! I hope you can get it running proper. Looks like there might be some design improvements to be made.

This gives a clean idea what technology is. I could simply assemble it and have it as a decoration piece that is dismountable or make it WORK as a classical engine. I can't explain how important this is. Schools must provide these experiences, with lego, THIS, block bending, block motors from lego and all other things. Learning should be FUN again. Yeah, make learning FUN agan. :3
