Hacking a Samsung Galaxy for $6,000,000 in Bitcoin!?
With the promise of up to $6 million worth of Bitcoin locked on this Samsung Galaxy phone, it was a challenge we couldn't refuse. In this episode, Joe moves his lab to a Seattle hotel room to hack the phone live with owner Lavar, a transit operator, and his friend Jon. Was the adventure worth it!?

The irony of the password being a "L" and then taking the biggest one ever, dayum,. feels bad.

I had a feeling it was gonna be an L because I used the first letter of my name as well.

Atleast the client is able to know now that he doesn't have millions. Imagine thinking you have millions and not being able to access it.
It sure is. Try having 137BTC from early 2010 and throwing out the paper wallet when you tossed your old tax records. Here in NZ we can dispose of tax records after 7 years. C'est la vie 😞 Waiting for a miracle. We are all Satoshi!

Casually being left with a full backup of the guy's phone in his PC. Hahahaha
Joe is world class at what he does. Just wow.
Edit: !SPOILER ALERT! . . . . . . Devastating for Lavar, but at least now he doesn't need to live with "what if" all his life. Great video Joe! Amazing work
In the end, whatever he spent on hiring Joe was definitely worth the closure.
Feel like they scammed Joe. I hope he got paid for his hacking

I really doubt Lavar was devastated. He was excited from the beginning, his story had holes, and hes a liar bus driver.
This is too intense. You had me in tears celebrating when you guys found the one hash, then immediately ripped my guts out with the $105 dollars. I feel it for him.

the quality of these videos and the story's all make me question why this channel isn't more popular, much respect and i hope this channel continues to grow and thrive
Honestly, probably because it feels like it's produced by the same studio doing every formulated reality show on network television. It's a topic tech enthusiasts, engineers, programmers, etc. would love to see in detail but it's edited like an episode of Hoarders and some DIY makeover show. It tries to appeal to a wide audience and checks a lot of boxes while not really focusing on any of them. I'm not saying it's bad or necessarily an issue. It's obviously pulling in views but it's basically the vanilla ice cream of content creation. He needs to figure out who his audience is. Just my two cents.

Haha, that guy who lost 6million in btc has to have stolen phone from someone he over heard talking
Yeah, the sucky part was we could see the ending from a mile away. There's loads of people out there with supposed Btc from "the early days" but it comes down to just a few coins from only a few years ago. There's a huge difference between spending $900 in 2012-ish to buy 15 coins, compared to spending $400 in 2017-ish to buy 0.15 coins. And then another huge difference trading them for $60k versus $20k per coin. One amounts to roughly $1Million, the other to $3,000. Or in this case, difference between $6Million versus $600.
Indeed! Didn't want to read any comments to not get spoiled haha.
His energy is amazing. Even the guy who could potentially have millions in his phone started getting tired but Joe powered through. This is what it looks like when you love what you do.
You just know they slept outside the hotel checking that no one exits with the phone 😂
Lmao and I bet Joe had to sleep with a camera running

I wish I had stopped watching at the time he unlocked the phone. Amazing video but a really sad ending.

These videos are the best on KZhead. The rollercoaster of emotions is insane. Very well edited too. Like a mini doc. I really hope you keep doing these. It's like digging for treasure.

It's like the TV Series on Discovery where they search for long buried treasures but never find anything
I worst feeling would be that guy that did all that work to find out the wallet only had $100 in it. Dude deserves a small fortune for all the care and effort. Like if the wallet had 6M, he should get at least half a million.

This video along with your previous have got to be two of the most intriguing and entertaining videos I’ve ever seen. I absolutely love your documentary style and you just seem like such a great person with a true passion for hardware hacking. Your troubleshooting process is something I can heavily relate to in my own experience and I truly hope you continue to make videos just like this, especially now that you have thousands of people lined up in need of your help. Regardless of the outcome, what you’re doing is great and also extremely educational. Keep it up Joe!

wow that episode was so epic, just discovered you, subscribed now
It could have been done via software without the JTAG. The gesture.key file has to be blanked so no code will be shown at the startup. I believe he knew this but he wanted to build a show around it to make more money with the views. Fair enough. The wallet video remains the best, so far.
Great video but I am so gutted for Lavar... I was so hoping to see a life changing end for him. Good job Joe, I just had to watch this from start to finish.
As a software engineer this makes so much sense and makes hardware hacking seem so simple but in reality I know that electrical engineering is worlds beyond how simple someone experienced like Joe makes it look. It’s amazing how much existing work can be reused here, eg. The JTag interface and software, the database mapping each checksum to its seed is so cool.
nah its simple as joe makes it to be
@@user-ro1cc8tz6d yes the process is very simple but the know how to identify a process is a completely different game

This is some of the best content I have ever seen on youtube, I feel bad for the guy bc it sounds like he got scammed honestly. After I watched your other crypto wallet and then this one I was kind of bummed you didn't have a whole series for me to binge watch. Please make more of this content in the future!!
I think there is nothing to be afraid of, there is risk in doing anything now. It depends on how you are using it and how to close it in time.
Same here haha! Bummed out when I noticed there were no other videos than those 2
How did he get "scammed?" His story made no sense, and he had no idea what he had, got the year wrong, and didn't even remember that his pin was the first letter of his name 🤦 The only person who got scammed is the hacker.
Such an anticlimactic ending, sadly. But boooy was this video exciting and great to watch, like a perfect heist movie. Really well done! Hope to see more of these videos!

Definitely a gem this channels got so much upside keep up the great work Joe!
shout out to this guy for no disappering with the phone
Yeah he would´ve dissapeared with 100 Bucks 😂
Cool video! But I think the easiest task was the soldering. SMD soldering isn’t that hard if you use enough flux and a stable counterpart. His version with single thin leads wasn’t the best way. He should have used a socket of the same size, split into half and then solder pin to pin with enough flux. Then you can solder it with any big iron and the tin would only stick to metal/copper and would have no shorts. The other work is pure genius!
I don't know much about hardware hacking, but I have to say, this is an INCREDIBLE series. Hope there is more to come!
Absolutely love this content! Please keep it coming!

One of the best youtube videos I've seen in years! So many emotions rolled into this one video. Like the tech guy said it's a modern-day tech gold rush doing what he doing. I loved it. Back in the early days of bitcoin/cryptocurrency, it was sketchy and unreliable plus the whole idea wasn't taken seriously.
Good work. But you can do it with flashing TWRP recovery and delete password.key file.
i love how he didnt even have an intro he just assumed the title explained everything
somehow, also on computers, this kind of stuff always seems to happen when your client is right there while you are working on the device. what seems to be straightforward and easy turns into a rabbit hole of twists and turns.

A bit late to the party, but that was amazing to watch. Well done and thank you!
