“Unless you’ve been living under a rock in the last year you’ve heard of dry ice cleaning” really made me feel like an amateur lmao
😂 welcome, how was your nap under that rock?
@@ChicagoAutoPros A little uncomfortable I woke up with a stiff neck 0/10 would not recommend unless you’re built like that or bring a good pillow.
I started knowing that technique last weak. Lol
And I thought I was cool using an air compressor.
Been living under a rock
I was struck by how well Chicago Auto Pros folded together, from multiple settings across the country, a thoughtful, frank, and entertaining video on a topic nobody else has come close to explaining in this way. Kudos to the video and sound editors. I liked the way the film explores both sides of the coin and lets the viewer decide for themselves whether they think this technology would be a fit or not for them and their business.
We appreciate the kind words!
Jason, about 30 years ago, my boss asked me to investigate dry ice for cleaning wheel loader frames after machining at Caterpillar in Aurora. I didn't go any farther with it because the removal speed wasn't fast enough for our operation at the time. We needed to be able to clean 17 rear frames, front frames, and lift arms per shift.
Finally picking up on speed. Way to go, dry ice cleaning. Been fan of it since it came out years ago.
I really appreciated the way you explained basics of ice cleaning. I was googling about it for a few days, and all I could find was some bits and parts of info, saturated with some pro slang, jumping back and forth ... I still didn't get it. THIS video helped me A LOT. When you want to explain something to a novice - talk like you would to a 5 year old kid ... or golden retriever. Leave that pro mumbo-jumbo for latter to impress somebody else. THANKS!!!
Thank you for the Awesome video. Very informative, got a lot of questions answered that I had about dry ice blasting.
Great content. Keep up the great work.
Very informative overview. I’m looking to use for another application but this gave me a great initiation to possibilities.
On eof the best videos, informative videos actually that I have seen on KZhead. Thank you.
Thanks guys fir sharing this information. I'm excited about starting my own cleaning business. Not just automotive, but other things as well. Keep sharing Shawn
What a great video! Answered every question I had thoroughly and without bias
Glad it was helpful!
This video has so much information that’s helpful to me I’m sure as well as others i will be purchasing in the future definitely
Great video! I learned a lot, thank you!
in 2004 i was doing this when i worked at TGASK molding the seals for car doors.
Awesome video, I am definitely going to come to a training. Very interesting service to have. Thank you!
Thanks, we hope to see you here!
I remembering my dad back in the early 80s going to an ice company go get crushed dry ice and using a air compressor cleaning his car and it came out very clean
Enjoyed this. Thanks, loads Also, look forward to any updates on your new venture.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Quite educational..thank you
I purchased my unit from Scott in October. And I've been loving every minute of it been cleaning engine bays and wheel wells mainly, hope the business picks up in the future.
Thanks 😊!

After cleaning, what do you apply to the metal surfaces to prevent corrosion? Fluid film for surfaces and cavity wax for the cavities? Or other things?
Great video. I appreciated your using the noob viewpoint and asking the basic questions that someone like me has about the dry ice cleaning business. Thanks very much!
I found out a few days ago. I was wondering, since it's co2, could that remove rust by o2 deprivation. Yep I heard those machines go from 6k to 45k. I think you can make one much cheaper but it would be much larger. good video 👍
guess i will be heading out soon to learn this for my shop. Ottinger's detailing going to be adding a new thing soon
I guess the Chicago market is out for me.... LOL. A good friend of mine has been a Sales rep at Cold Jet forever

What company do you usually use for your dry ice do they drop ship to you , i am sure you have had this question asked 100 times but i have been sourcing out the rice and it seems difficult to acquire

I will really want to be trained on how to use dry ice machine and all its benefit
How would this work on cleaning direct injection valves?
Running a large volume compressor, do you also need a refrigerated dryer? I can imagine that inducing the compressed air condensation into the dry ice stream and onto the surface being cleaned could be bad without a dryer, even with a holding tank.
A refrigerated dryer won't cut it in most parts of the world. In the desert or arid locations, yes. Everywhere else you must run a desiccant dryer.
I'm wondering if I can use it on glass. For instance, aquariums have white mineral deposits that won't come off. And you can't use chemicals to take it off. It can be deadly to aquatic fish.
Enjoyed the video! I’m in the middle of building my dry ice blasting shop. It’s 100k easy for a pro setup.
I’m building a shop in the next year. Any recommendations on blaster/compressor/dryer setup?
Question: From a customers perspective once one has invested in having the undercarriage ‘dry iced’ and have everything looking brand new from this process - is there a clear protective long lasting coating that can be applied to the to the undercarriage (once dry iced) to save the investment of probably a couple thousand dollars that was spent to clean up this area of the vehicle? Or is this something that has yet to be considered. I’d like to hear your thoughts on this for those of us who would appreciate protection on the undercarriage once dry iced.
There's a lot of permanent solutions like anti rust coatings or rubber coatings but in all honesty, it just gives you an extra layer between grime and body part. Doesn't save you the trouble of going through cleaning and all again just prevents any damage that may come over prolonged exposure to said grime and stuff. Not super detailed but hope it helps
@@nashslife4044 Thank you for the information - it was a great help to me for when I do have dry ice cleaning done!🙏

Yes it’s called Bilt Hamber Dynax, clear sprayable product from a top class British company Bilt Hamber Laboratories, I have no affiliation just used their products for years and every one of them is top class.
how many kg of pellets are you using typlically per car?

Thanks, we appreciate thar!
I saw an auto detailer's video who was doing dry ice cleaning in the interior.. totally new to me.. I dont see how this could work well on cloth interiors, though.
Can dry ice blasting work for removing paint and varnish from wood like soda blasting?
It depends on the dry ice machine you purchase. Dry Ice Energy machines are safe on paint, but the Champ can certainly be turned up for a job that big.
Would be really nice if you'd provide some specs of basic models, and especially for compressor. This is the most problematic thing to find online for me :( update: oh alright on the pages of those manufacturers they do have nice specs available :)! Finally!
What about hoses, do the blow out
what happens to the material that you knock off the car? is there a pile of dust and greasy shit under the car, not an issue I just wanted to know. I'm thinking of setting up my son with the equipment for use in the Long Isand region. Im hiring a research firm to collect data on the viability of such a business. There are millions of detail and wrap shops, so the cars are here. However I don't know how many machines are already in the area. Not just focused on cars either, seems it would be helpful for many other businesses, but are they willing to pay?
it can be used for cleaning car instead of water?
what's the recommended air compressor??
100 cfm sounds like
I must've been living under a rock because I haven't heard of dry ice cleaning.
Where do you purchase pellets
There are numerous shops around the country. Typically they will have different sizes and shapes depending on what you need them for.
Can we visit you ? .. Do you offer training ?
Please sir from where you get dry ice
Largely, as a by-product of fuel/alcohol plants. Then that reclaimed Co2 gas is converted to liquid, and ultimately run through a pelletizer which makes the solid product. There are many suppliers worldwide who make standard 3mm blasting ice.
" You can be Dead " gonna want to highlight that Don't want to be dead ✔️
too funny 00:30; I purchased my coldjet (way too big IMO) dry ice machine 3yrs ago & 185cfm compressor 2yrs ago to clean up my cars (very low mileage 20yo renntech, dinan, IRL, CART etc) so I can sell them and be done with cars. I haven't done any yet because I don't have a lift in my shop and no spare time .. in fairness I'll also need it to restore my Beech Baron.
@Resq Av8r How much did it all set you back?
@@RichRotorhead I purchased it used for slightly under 50K but that made sense to me prior to the pandemic when I had a business that was making money. NOW I might have to use the equipment to do a business.
@@resQ-av8r I'm seriously considering doing that some time this year 🤔
Hello fellow under rock dwellers! I crawled out for a minute recently and was like, duuuuuude! It’s like, the worrrrrrrld… never heard about it before, or got to have, got to use things….like dry ice cleaning.
Can anyone comment on whether dry ice can "brighten" aluminum parts- that is restore that new finish like when it was originally cast? I've heard different opinions- some say it cleans, yes, but doesn't really do much else...
It will NOT brighten aluminum. When properly used, it is non-abraisive. So there is no chance of brightening the surface.
This is REALLY cool investment @Chicago Auto Pros , can i come and work for you ? With this tecnology cars can be very very clean underneath too... it's very cool .
Great video
Thanks!
Very nice presentation and information. What about you Bussiness nawadays after spending this time? Do advise me to start this business here in my country Saudi Arabia? Hoping to work together.

@@ChicagoAutoPros 100K air compressor ?
since no one else is going to ask..... what happens if you "accidently" hit your skin with it? Based on the demonstration you will remove your skin?
How many minutes does a pound last?
It depends on how fast your flow rate is, and how big your pellets are.
Where does the dirt, mud, oil go when blasting with this?
Everywhere lol, it’s a 70,000% explosion on the surface haha
Pretty cool!! watching him hit the nav screen made me cringe...lol
I don't know what dry ice does but I know that shit scratches if you look at it wrong
What's your contact in Greece?
I LIKE. GREAT PRESENTATION. CUSTOMER INPUT. I WOULD WANT THIS CLEANING SERVICE FOR: ■ MY INSIDE WHEELS . LINCOLN PLASTIC CHROME CLADS. YOU CAN DESTROY A VEHICLE VERY EASY. KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIANCE IS PARAMOUNT.
So why can't you use dry ice in a sand blaster?
Hi I'm Patrick, what's dry ice blasting??
Hi Patrick, try watching the video.
Do you ise a vacuum to collect all the dirt? I don't see any of that.... Where does the dirt go?!
We premiered this technology 24 years ago
You should send me a unit to test here in Costa Rica, Jason! HAHA
Is it in Europe.
Where does the dirt and grime go?
You know, where all your missing socks are, the dark side of the moon.
All forms of cleaning are the same. You're just moving dirt from one place to another. In this process, the dirt falls to the ground or any horizontal surface. Initially, most of it is atomized. But eventually it succumbs to gravity which is why we perform the work in a container space like a paint booth but the opposite. A paint booth is meant to keep dirt out. Our booth is specifically and specially designed to keep the dirt in!
Yes but you can move the dirt through the air from the drivers seat to the passenger seat with this machine. Your car is ready bro. Ya we vaporized that pile of dog shit in he back seat. We froze dat bitch then blew it up.
where does the dirt go?
Literally everywhere
They gloss over the 90 min you need to spend with the shop vac afterward.
You mention lack of water with dry ice cleaning. A consideration that was not brought up. Condensation, High humidity levels exacerbate. Also, on the note of oxygen deprivation 5lbs of dry ice is the same amount of co2 as 1000 people breathing.
One bloke trying his absolute hardest to put anyone off
Where does the dirt go?
Good question! We have a full explanation video coming out soon. The pellets of dry ice sublimate upon hitting the surface, and will actually lift the dirt off of the surface when the CO2 converts from the solid to gaseous state.
How much dry ice do i need for cleaning underneath a car completely?
Hi iam from india i want dry ice cleaning machine send me details
2:33 13:23 😆
I am no expert but don’t be afraid of the price everything is doubled almost in price and the results that machine gives are great just save your money that’s pretty much it
Hm.. Opening makes me think I need to call some roofers to get the rocks off my roof.
The one thing that wasn't mentioned is the clean up coz dirt has to go somewhere, i had a dry ice machine its good for its intended purpose but not fun on the clean up lol
Really gotta have a separate room just for dry ice cleaning. Also, Swisstrax floor is helpful as it hides the dirt for the moment but in the end, you're right, big clean up always necessary!
Better than walnut shells
We perform all work in our DryceBooth. You wouldn't paint a car outside of a controlled space. This process is similar.
it’s like everything else when it catches on people start doing it more it’ll get cheaper; it’s inevitable.
Uh..... well - I guess I've been under my rock.😔
