How Much Do DUTCH People Know About AMERICA? *Surprising Results*
Do the Dutch know a lot about the USA? Well, in today's video we'll find out! A few months ago when visiting California, I tested American people's knowledge of the Netherlands. Now it's time to do the reverse; today I'm in the city of Zwolle in the Netherlands and we're going to see how much the Dutch know about the US!

7/10 but imo the questions were kinda unfair knowing an american only actually knew 8 of the answers before making this video
Well done Sir. You represent The Dutch!
Isn’t it amazing that you can ask questions in the English language in a country that doesn’t use English as their native language and get answers instantly.
Considering English is everywhere, it's not that special.
Haha, it's definitely impressive. But now I'm really used to the Dutch high level of English.
@@exploringtheforeign perhaps it would be an idea to test the level of Dutch among the Americans :-)
@@leonhaven6262 leon you be suprised how the levle of english is outside of the entherlands and any native spekaing country. in the netherlands yes its common, go to south or east europe, go to south america africa or asia and its so different on the elvle of english
In Indonesia they also answered when asked an English question. The answer usually was a hesitant Yeeesssss?? Including when asked: is the trainstation to the left or to the right? And: how do we get to hotel X from here? :-)

As a Dutchy, 9 out of 10. Missed out on the number of stripes on the flags. Guessed 12 instead of 13. I know what the stars and stripes represent, can never recall the exact figures in these sorts of questions.
En je kent Tom Brady?! WTF is dat voor vraag? Wie is er nou geïnteresseerd in Amerikaans football…? Well done!
Same with the flag, wanna claim 18 euros together with me?
@@e8gj4jg84u I have zero interest in American football, but I do know that Tom Brady is a footballer. Wouldn’t know him from Adam to look at, but I recognise the name. The issue for me is that I always get his name mixed up with Tom Hardy (who’s an actor, another of the options). Really had to disentangle them in my mind before answering here.
9/10 i figured MacDonald's as well. I know white castle from: Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, but for the rest totally unfamiliar with it. The rest i knew. 13 strips i knew cause i love history, and knew it was for the original 13 states also know as the Thirteen Colonies. Tom Brady i knew from watching to much American stuff Thanksgiving i know cause every 4th Thursday of November I talk to a lot of Americans online, and 2 of em already over 15 years 1 from Texas other Michigan.

Goede video!

This is absolutely wholesome. The way you interacted with the people, great questions, and their reactions to your little gifts.
Wow, thanks, Kim! Really nice to hear and glad you enjoyed :) And not bad on the quiz!
bro i got the exact same answers wrong 6/10
Same here haha, looked like fun to participate in on the streets
I got 10 out of 10 although I was very suspicious about the "trick questions" about the fast food chains and the official language, so that made it a bit easier. Hadn't I seen the options for those I would have gotten 8
Great job! I feel it's always 50/50 when you see trick questions, you never know if you're being tricked or not haha
@@exploringtheforeign Thank you! Yes, I was taking a leap of faith with the last one by assuming it was a trick question (I really wanted to get 10/10 when I got so far)
I screwed up the language question.. I think I actually might have known that at one time. It's confusing because in Canada we had 2 national languages when I was in school but I wouldn't be surprised if they added a bunch of Indian languages since then.. anyhow so it's hard to imagine a country not having the concept of a national language
This is why I prefer quizes with open answer questions instead of multiple choice. Only then do you know if the person actually knew the right answer and didn't just guess (or was reminded of something they'd forgotten about).
Harold & Kumar, White Castle.
this was so wholesome, also im so proud that dutchies can answer questions about another country in its most spoken language, not their mother tongue
Amazing video man!
Thank you for watching and playing along; glad you enjoyed :)
😀I knew it was White Castle thanks to the movie ' Harold and Kumar go to White castle' 🤣

Sam, what a nice video again!! The vibe is very happy and the participants are also very different and nice! You’re doing well man, keep it up!! I got 7 correct, and I’m honestly pretty proud about that. I only missed out on thanksgiving, no official language and white castle. I also love how you’re understanding the Dutch, you already know tikkies, bastogne koeken and drop! (Stroopwafels are common sense, lol). Mad respect, peace ✌️
Thank you, Cheesy Cheese! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for participating! The ones you missed are understandable. And yeah, I thought it'd be funny to throw in the Dutch twist at the end haha.

9/10! 😁 Got stuck on the fastfood one, I assumed McDonald's! It's refreshing to see this turned around; too many videos about Americans not knowing stuff about Europe, but as we can see here: it's not always better on this side of the pond... Your enthusiasm is contagious by the way! Do you have any plans to maybe be a 'professional' presenter on Dutch tv/streaming/online? You're already quite professional obviously, but I mean outside of your own channel!
Hey Jesse! Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for playing along! I appreciate the kind words, man! As far as being a host, my dedication is to my KZhead page at the moment, but I'd be open to guest appearances or something on a show! That would be really cool haha.
Great questions! I think the score is super divided depending who you ask! I feel like of you ask more possibly introverted internet people these questions, you'd statistically get higher results than when you ask outgoing people enjoying the day outside haha! I got 8/10 (football player and the flag stripes)
Hahah, you may be right! And you had great results!
Being introverted doesn't make you knowledgable. So tired of myths surrounding how smart people are based upon prejudice.
@@MissMoontree being smart has nothing to do with it, he's just saying introverted people usually spend more time on the internet, wich makes you come across a lot of american information randomly all the time, making it so they know more of these answers
These were fun questions, great video Sam!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed :)
This is so cute! Love your interviewing style - 🥺keep it up ~~
Thank you!!
I got 9 out of 10, only the last question i got wrong because obviously i went for english as the official language. And... i"ll admit 13 stripes on the flag was a lucky guess. I've always found it interesting that New York used to be New Amsterdam, just like other names in new york are based on dutch names: Brooklyn=Breukelen, Harlem=Haarlem, Broadway was originally based on the dutch Breede Weg and we have streets here called Breestraat wich would be Broadstreet in english. I also just learned just now that there is so much more, there are towns in New York called Watervliet and Kinderhook and the town of Hempstead is based on Heemstede, Bushwick=Boswijk, Gravesend is based on 's Gravesande and the Hudson river is named after Henry Hudson, who was the first to travel there on behalf of the WIC. the name Manhattan on the other hand is a European bastardisation of what the Native Americans called "manna-hata" wich would mean island of many hills, though there's multiple interpretations of that, another document refers to it as "Manahachtanink" meaning "Island of intoxication" wich was a consequence of the dutch settlers gifting the native american tribe there alcohol.
I got 8 out of 10. Never heard of that fast food chain before and really didn't know the US doesn't have an official language.I learn something new everyday😅 Your Dutch (pronunciation) is amazing btw! I'm impressed😃
Goed gedaan, Daphne! Glad you learned something new and thank you for playing. Also thanks on the feedback for my Dutch!

Great video, really enjoyed watching it. You are great at street interviews and have nice energy. With all due respect, i would offer a suggestion. What would be been nice in this video is some extra explanation at some points in the video, like new york used to be called New Amsterdam. Points like this makes the video more educational.
Thank you! And I appreciate the feedback😃 I did mention that the Dutch used to own New York and I had a photo with a map of New Amsterdam, but I'll try to do a little more detail next time🙏🏾
Such a good video! I’m half American and I resonate with you’re American and Dutch videos you a vibe
8/10! It surprises me that so many contestants didn’t know about most of the questions. I guess I know this much because I talk to Americans online a lot! Great video as always!
Great job! Which ones did you miss? And I'm glad you enjoyed the video; thank you for playing!
@@exploringtheforeign I missed the one about the fast food chain and Tom Brady!
That was fun! Would be GREAT to see you ask average Americans the exact same thing. To find out what kind of knowledge isn't being taught at school. But once again, people would have played along without the offered money! In fact, it takes away a bit of it, because of the stupid money. Money dilutes fun instead of adding to it. Did like the Dutch presents at the end, though a typical American present might have been more in place :) Your presentation was awesome, as always!
Great questions, what a great interaction with the locals!
I (Dutchy) had about 6 right answers. I was surprised that the questions I'd think were quite easy (Texas, Thanksgiving) were struggles to the contestants, and the questions I was struggling with were answered so easily by some of the contestants ;) I guess it shows that we all have our natural favorite topics and fields of interest in life. Good to see!
Interesting that it happened like that for you! Thank you for playing along!
I got all except the language Im also Dutch
I got 7 out of 10. Great questions, didn’t know a few of those. You should swap these and do the Dutch ones on Holland and these in the US. I’d be very interested (and probably shocked) with the results!😅

9 out of 10. I didn't know about In-N-Out. I'm also very impressed at your Dutch pronunciation. It's almost perfect and there's only very gentle hints that you're not a native Dutch speaker. Can I ask how you learned it so well?

The questions were too easy 😂I scored 9/10 never heard of White Castle before so I guessed McDonalds 😂😂 History and Geography were my favorite classes so I guess that helped! Keep up the good work Sam 🙏❤️
I’ve been to the US many times, and many Dutch people say most Americans are ignorant about Europe. I found that not to be true, it all depends on the person. Some people really knew everything about Europe and the Netherlands others told me they truly loved Norway when telling them I was born in Amsterdam 🤣🤣 I guess it’s the same here with our views on the US: it all depends on who you talk to!
Haha, next time I'm throwing in the more advance questions for you, Robert! Lol! Great job, and thank you for playing along. Glad you enjoyed!
I don't even know how I got 9/10 as well, but I guess that social media and the fact that I remember pretty useless things quite easily helps alot. I only had that question about the stripes of the flags wrong. I couldn't remember if it was 12 or 13.
History and geography (also my favorite subjects), american movies and sports really exported culture like never before. I only knew about white castle beacuse of the movies Harold and Kumar from the early/mid 2000s. Im portuguese and grew up in spain xD..awesome job on the video bud x
I knew about White Castle, so did not fall for that one but i did fall for the official language question... in hindsight it's an obvious answer.. And i also mixed up September and November, so.. that'll be 16 Euro's please ;) Good questions, couple of advanced questions too, certainly one of the better questions games i've seen on this topic :)

In summary, I got question 5,6 and 9 wrong. From which our host did not know number 5 until he researched it as well. (And he didn't know number 10 either.) For everyone interested into the mind of another Dutch man, my reasoning is down below: 1: C. This is something I learned in high school. 2: D. I watched some videos online and this stuck as a cotcha against any American. 3: A. This was purely a guess based on the reasoning that Americans seem to like American Football. I have never heard of his name. 4: C. Like question 2, I got this from watching videos online but just happened to store it in my brain. 5: A. This was purely a guess and sadly it was wrong. I did have a big feeling it would not be mcdonald's so I gambled on the other big chain. 6: C. I know that the stars represent the amount of states but did not know that the stripes stood for anything specific. So I gambled for the middle of the remaining three since it's definitely not 50. 7: C. I got this from watching documentaries on the television. 8: B. Everything is bigger in texas, so they need the space... 9: C. I have no idea. 10: D. With how accepting the US is of the spanish speaking population, there can't be an official language or this would be enforced a lot more. (The USA really isn't that free in my mind...) And if you read this far, feel free to donate the €14 to a charity if you can.
Awesome job! And I plan on doing something soon with charity involved, so I got you!

Dutchman here, I only got the thanksgiving one and the oldest fast food chain one wrong...! I never heard of White Castle, I think I may have heard about it a very few times though but definitely not enough to know it was the oldest fast food chain of the US. I thought Thanksgiving was celebrated during fall, where September and November are both in... But my gut feeling went for September...!
Finally a vid made in the great city of Zwolle, instead of the typical Amsterdam videos
9/10 did not know about the fastfood chains and I guessed the last question right about the language.. But the rest was kinda easy and just like other people I am surprised about so many wrong answers. I like your style. You are funny, you laugh a lot, and it is easy to watch. Thanks.

Thanks, Ron! Glad you enjoyed the video and I appreciate the feedback. I mention in text at the video to pause the video when the questions come up because I felt like leaving the question on for long would've disrupted the flow of the video. But I'll keep this in mind next time to improve on!

The only one I didn't know fur sure was the oldest fast food chain. I was 50/50 between White Castle and In-n-out, went for the latter one.
I'm dutch and I would have known most answers without multiple choice, except the stripes, the first fast food and the thanksgiving one. Thanksgiving movies are disguised as Christmas movies here...I would have guessed November with these options.

9/10, didn't know the White Castle one. Also, I live in Zwolle so it's nice to see my city like this
I was in San DIego in 2000 and I still remember In-N-Out burger. They were that good! Somehow the guys I hung out with constistently forgot the b and r ...
I did not know the stripes on the flag carried a meaning too, just the stars 🤔 Geography classes skimmed over that one in highschool for sure.
Haha, you learned something new :)
Zwolle my town Nice to see👍
I personally got 7-10 questions correct. Didn't know about White Castle, the amount of stripes and Tom Brady! I can't help it but feel like this doesn't really represent how much most Dutch people know about America though, as I was so shocked these people didn't even know where Texas was on the map!? I'm sure most Dutch people would get at least 6 correct. But regardless, that was a very fun video to watch! And it was lovely to see Zwolle, the city that I went to college in being represented here! Finally an American that's somewhere other than Amsterdam! I'm sure most people watching (and reading) this will be Dutch, but if you're an American (or another foreigner) watching this and are planning to visit the Netherlands in the future. I'd highly recommend visiting the city of Zwolle! It's a beautiful old city with a lovely vibe and lots of terraces you can sit and eat! It's only about an hour away from Amsterdam by train, and the city itself is very walkable!
I thought the questions could have been better - why would anyone know about Tom Brady or White Castle (since it's not even exported)? As an American, I have zero interest in Tom Brady. I can't name a footballer on a Dutch team, yet I think I would do well on a general test about the Netherlands.
I think when you give people presents it's better then money. Nice video man!
I agree! And thank you!
