Wow, this is by far the highlight so far of my time on KZhead, and this is all possible because of YOU ALL. Thank you for watching and continuing to help the channel grow. For those who celebrate, I hope you had a great King's Day and I hope you enjoy the video!
Bro this video got randomly recommended to me but i gotta say ur enthusiasm is amazing. I believe u (this channel) has great potential! Thanks for this video!
Another beautiful video! Well done!
you're WELCOME!
Thank you! I'm glad the algorithm didn't let you down! haha
Thank you all!
This is one PROUD MOMMA!!!! Sam, you and Linde did a phenomenal job on this video. Who would have thought two years after moving to the Netherlands, that my son would be interviewing their king on King’s Day!!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤congratulations 🍾 🎊 to you both!!
You raised a beautiful son mam, you have all the rights to be proud!
You deserve a lot of credit for raising such a positive, open minded and charismatic son! I also enjoyed your introduction to our country a lot.
@@carolinavanderlande4904 thank you so much! It’s wonderful people like you that makes this Country so special to me.
Thank you so much, mom. Love you!!
We neither! Unbelievable. Sam and Lin were the king and queen of the day😊
You're absolutely right. Very well done Sam! 👍🏽👏🏽👌🏽
Dankjewel René!!! En ook bedankt aan jouw vrouw! Super mooie feedback om te heben!
fun fact, I spoken with him twice on 1 day on which I said 3rd time I see you you owe me cola which didn't happen but some months later I did spot and told him that and he was laughing as I think he remebered that. The King is a laid back person for sure. his security is just uptight haha
Hi from Rotterdam south side the netherlands i live there its was an awesom day 😊
@@eindbaaz3815 hahaha now that is something typically Dutch :D
His reply is why the monarchy is a good thing, even setting aside all the secondary benefits that having a monarchy grants you. No elected official could ever represent the country as a whole, since they only represent those that voted for them. But because the king is not elected nor part of any political party he can be above political differences and represent the nation as a whole, a reminder that above all else we are all Dutch, and a symbol for what that entails.
I went to school with Willem Alexander and he is actually just an ordinary Dutchman, but the only one who already knew what he would become when he was born and that is actually quite special. I also met his mother and grandmother, both former queens, and they were all sympathetic in their own way...
Interesting!
My mom went to class with Princess Laurentien, i never seen their place, but the Princess and her family came to my house once, and also they were just ordinary down-to-earth people!
did you also meet his nazi father? tell me about it lol
Because of you and NotJustBikes I have booked a trip to the Netherlands and started learning dutch. Great videos!!
That’s great! Hope you enjoy you stay in our little nation.
Jack promes yourself one thing than, go see the Netherlands and not only Amsterdam. Amsterdam is not like the rest of the Netherlands. Hope you have a wonderfull time.

Really appreciate you speaking Dutch. Since almost everyone speaks English its really comfortable to just talk in English, but actually making the effort to learn the language, shows character.
Dankjewel!!
Many would have stumbled when presented with the opportunity to ask the King a question, you however handled it like a pro with a fitting question. Well done man.
I really appreciate that! I just got lost in the moment haha
This was even a better highlight then the one on NPO live. Really great! Thanks for the good content you deliver.
Haha oh man, that's an honor! Thank you!!
You actually talked to the king !!! Thats just wow !!
I still can't believe it!

Aw haha dankjewel Ingrid!!
I don't really care about koningsdag or our king but the fact that you actually managed to have this short interview with him is pretty awesome and i don't think a lot of people outside of the mainstream media (even within the mainstream media) get this opportunity.
Thanks, Tike! I definitely don't take the moment for granted!
@@youtube.censor.not.reacting Well, you seem educated, that's for sure. I didn't deny that our royal family might bring some financial and/or cultural benefits, i just don't really care too much for the royal family myself.
As somebody wo lives abroad for more then 10 years and left the Netherlands when Beatrix was still Queen I did really like this experience and seeing my country and our King doing very well! Thank you for making this video and making me a little homesick.
Oh wow, I'm glad you enjoyed this, Natalie! As someone living away from home, I know how homesickness can feel, but I hope through the video you could still feel part of the experience! :)
Recognize the feeling, although I have been to both Queens day and Kings day a few times since I left, I miss it every year I can't make it.
Cool video! Love the content. Small correction, 30 april wasn't actually the birthday of princes Beatrix, it was actually the birthday of princes Juliana. When Beatrix inherited the throne, she chose to keep "koninginnendag" on the 30e of april. This was in honor of her mother. In addition, she also though that the weather was not as good in january. Wich, in my opinion, seems a good argument. Princes Beatrix herself was born on de 31e of january. Don't know if the comment was already made, but I thought you'd like to know. 😊 Hope to see more! Btw, I'm Dutch, don't know if you like your comment in English or Netherlands. 😂
Hey! Thank you for sharing this😃I was actually already aware of this and I intentionally made sure not to say that April 30th was her birthday, I was just trying to point out how that was the date for her "Queen's Day" celebration. But I could've made that more clear😃 en maak niet uit of je wilt in Engels of Nederlands schrijven!😃
Tiny addition about the naming of ex-monarchs. As you used correctly in your comment, when a monarch abdicates their title is reverted to being prince or princess, so like you said it is princess Beatrix. However when an ex-monarch dies their title reverted once more to being king or queen again. So you do say queen Juliana.
I saw you on TV! I was thinking wow is that really him!? Exploring the Foreign made it up there ! how did he pull that off !??
Haha, oh man, this was soooo crazy! I hope you enjoyed the video :)
Dankjewel Hilde!!!
Well Sam, just make sure you understand that you've achieved something which other people from the Netherlands never have achieved and probably never will achieve since interviewing the king is a rarity. Well done !
Thank you, Dutchy J! I definitely don't take it for granted.

Best video by you. The interview with the kids and parents was a very nice touch. Kudos to your lovely girlfriend for helping you, I’m sure it was a tough task. Cheers 🎉

We in Holland are proud of this man, our king. Some people want a republic, but having a royal family bonds the nation with so many different people together. ❤ Alex and Maxima.
Great video, you deserve the success man! The people wearing black were doing it in protest of the wealth gap/poverty levels in Rotterdam. It is the poorest city in NL, many people struggle to afford the basics there.

Brilliant video! Official channels would be crazy if they didn’t try to hire the two of you.
Haha, thank you! Hopefully they watch this haha.
I really enjoyed this, well done. Both of you. Touzani is a great guy, he has done so much good things for the youth . He is a celebrity here in the Netherlands. You were lucky to be able to ask the king something because there are so many people and as he said so much is happening at the same time that it is difficult to pay attention to everyone. You have made some awesome memories this day and a great story to tell your children someday.
Thank you, Alicia! Touzani was definitely super cool, and I don't take for granted at all the moment I had with the king. That was really special.
good representation of kingsday! I will send this to friends in new York who have no clue what this day means...
Leuk! Dankjewel Sarah :)
@EXPLORING THE FOREIGN I just saw a video about the, for us normal rules, when ambulances or whatever, needs to hurry. all over europe is it normal to park your car on either side of the highway. but we also do this on 4th of May, or with a death procession. and by the way it's also the law. I saw in that video that's not the case in america... the guy could not believe the highway parts like the red see! I think if people's lives are at stake, it's the only right way to do. is it true ambulances in US have trouble getting through traffic?
Sure, in 2023 kings and queens may be relics of the past and there may be many valid arguments for why average citizens shouldn't be asked to pay for the lavish lifestyles they lead, but as a Dutchman (living in the Detroit area) I personally wouldn't want it any other way. I am proud to be Dutch and I am happy that Willem Alexander and his family represent my country as graciously as they do. Congratulations on being able to interview him. Love your videos.
Thank you, Hellmuth!
Wow Sam! Dat is zoo bijzonder! Wat leuk! Hele leuke video, dankjewel :)
Dankjewel!
Aw man! Heel erg bedankt, and thank you for joining me on this journey!!
WOW!! Very amazing video!! You also interviewed Touzani! He has more than a million subs! People don’t really want a king and the reason for that is really understandable. The people think that the king has too much money from the belastingen and also they think there’s too much influence on him. Take Amalia (our next queen) as example, she can’t be on the streets alone, and there was a time she couldn’t be outside at all. That’s because people were threatening her. That’s also the problem with the king. After all this great video Sam! This will bring your channel up another notch.
Lets say some people don't want a monarchy. Still, a president would be way more expensive, and in this time of turmoil we can use every little bit of stability we can get. The specific problem of security is no different, whether you have a monarchy or a republic.
Thank you!! It was a very special day to say the least. And Touzani was super cool! And thank you for sharing the information around why some people are opposed to having a king.
She's not threatened by republicans. Most republicans believe it's simply wrong to give someone a position on birth, it's anti-meritocratic. A lot of others are republican in spirit, in the sense that the royals have to deliver, to the Dutch people. They haven't done so lately and seem to care more about themselves and the international private jet class than the Dutch people, which is probably the case.
I named some reasons and not all
@@DenUitvreter The last part is a matter of opinion. And yes, they have made mistakes, but who doesn't. I'm not convinced a president will on average do a better job, especially in this time of popularity voting. At least the royals have been trained almost from birth for the position they will possibly have to take one day. I think its fair to say the impact of a monarch is bigger than the impact of just another politician, when representing the country. More on the subject, I can't imagine a president day coming close to queen's/king's day.
WELLL DONE MAN! So exciting you got this done!
Dankjewel!
Cool as Sam! I have been looking forward to this video! You are a bloody legend😃I will attend a big King’s Day Party here in Auckland tomorrow haha. Take care. Noho ora mai, Evan
Haha, thank you, Evan!! And enjoy your party in Auckland!
Fantastic video, you actually managed to speak with the king! Congrats! On the protesters: basically these are republicans: not the USA version but as per the definition: people who prefer a republic over our current constitutional monarchy. In short their arguments are that a monarchy doesn’t equal ‘true’ democracy and that the royal family costs a lot of unnecessary money that comes from the tax payers. I also heard some arguments sprinkled in concerning equality, but I’d say these are the two main talking points. Personally I don’t agree: thankfully having a different opinion is typically Dutch. Keeps the conversation going. 😉 Anyway… On democracy: in my opinion this is straight up incorrect. The role of the royal family is ceremonial, they don’t have any political power (anymore). During the days of Queen Beatrix, the monarch would still play a role during the transition of parliaments, hosting the talks to form a new coalition for the next government. I would argue that the monarch, as a stable, (mostly) impartial third party, could provide stability in an unstable period of time. Plus, in repetition, the monarch did not have any actual political power there. On finances: first of all, I believe most republicans conveniently gloss over the fact that a president costs money too. In addition, the royal family provides an impartial representative of our country: other nations can have beef with our prime minister but still be prepared the receive the king as that political barb isn’t as much of a problem. Plus each state visit is accompanied by a large trading delegation, so the royal family earns us money as well. There is some debate about whether a monarch’s ‘fairytale wow factor’ actually helps negotiations. I would say: prolly not for the huge corporations, but yes for the smaller and mid-sized companies. So yes, I personally gladly am prepared to see some of my tax money go to the royal family. Oh, and don’t forget they can network quite easily with the other royal families around the globe, people who they’ve often known for generations. That’s the grease that keeps the wheels of diplomacy turning more easily. One third argument of mine is that the royal family provides stability. In volatile times like this, a stable, neutral figurehead is worth so much more than people give them credit for. It’s a boon to have a royal family that’s above the political snake pit. There’s nothing wrong with playing into that fairytale fantasy part of having a royal family. There’s nothing wrong with having traditions. In my eyes, the royal family is that secret sauce that just adds that extra something special to my country.
Thank you for the nice feedback on the video and thank you for the information on what's going on! It's helping me learn.
@@exploringtheforeign No problem mate. As a matter of fact, this discussion between the pro-monarchs and pro-republicans is centuries old... Try googling the "Gebroeders de Witt." You might remember them from scenes of the film "Michiel de Ruyter." There have always been "Staatsgezinden" and "Prinsgezinden", although their specific goals most likely have shifted about through the years. As political climates, ideals and ambitions always do, and somehow stay the same as well. Curious. Anyway, thanks again for the great vid, you and your girlfriend should team up more often!
So cool! I was exited for you, when you called the King.😂 ❤beautiful registration!

Hi Sam, This is the best impression of the atmosphere during Koningsdag I have seen. The thing is that most other media, including the regular tv channels, just produce a registration of events. You somehow managed to capture the vibe. You've got a real talent and I'm sure your open personality contributed to the King actually answering your questions. I live abroad but this way some of the unique vibe got across. Well done and a big thanks!
Thank you so much for this! My mindset when making these videos is to just get an authentic/honest feel for whatever I'm experiencing and however it comes out it comes out, and it's really nice to hear that that comes through as a viewer! I really appreciate the words, thank you for watching :)

The King actually talked to the protesters too that day.
Hey man, amazing footage you shot here! It really makes me proud to be Dutch, seeing everyone being quirky and happy on a very special day! Straight to the point, I have a suggestion for you for another video. You know 5 mei? Dutch freedom day. I'd really recommend you come to Wageningen this year or the next. It is in my opinion the most important celebration next to kings day, maybe even more important. We celebrate the day WW2 ended, and it was signed in Wageningen. It's a free festival, we have a parade with veterans and music stages all over the city. It is an amazing way and place to celebrate our freedom as a country and as individuals in a time of peace. I'd really like for you to come and see for yourself!
Thank you, Lexie! Really nice to hear. As for 5 mei, if I do a video, I've been thinking of a few ideas, but I'm not 100% sure if I'll do it. But this tip helps a lot! Thank you for sharing, I can't guarantee I'll be there, but I'll try my best!
For the protests, I get that people find it a bit outdated but I also think it is good to have a kind of extra check on the government and someone who is supposed to be the personification of the country as it does help in national identity. Also, I just love to party on kings/queens-day! It is such a fun tradition and with the deterioration of other traditions lately I'm all for it.
That was a really fun look at Koningsdag! You managed to catch the mood well, as well as asking a question of the king himself. Great job, thanks and congratulations! 👍🌷🥳

Ik ben sprakeloos man. I got goosebumps! So glad I found itl!!

How fun! I've seen Alexander and Beatrix (the previous queen) quite a lot in person. They are very approachable people. My grandmother use to have chats with them on the streets decades ago. I love how their children went to a regular school, a princess lives two blocks from my parents and shops like any other person herself, the family tries to stay normal even though they are not. I am not pro monarchy per se (although the other alternatives are not better either), but I have to give them credit try are trying to be with the locals and stay connected.

Hi Sam I commented on your post when your mother visited. Now I congratulate you on this video, in my home town Rotterdam. This was a great video. How great you were able to interview king Alexander. I wasn't too far away from you. Came in late, was standing next to the Markthal. Unfortunately couldn't see much, couldn't hear hear everything, so great to hear it clearly on your video. Your video shows the greatness of Rotterdam. It is the largest blue collar city in the Netherlands. It is said it is the poorest city as well (but its obviously hidden poverty as it doesn't show, as many say it's the most beautiful city of the Netherlands, but I might be biased 😊). The majority of Rotterdam nowadays has an immigration background; we have +180 etnicities. Our mayor is a perfect example: an immigrant of Moroccan, a Muslim and highly appreciated. Regardless of your etnicity or origin we regards one another first and foremost „Rotterdammers". On Kingsday we are One Nation united under one colour 🟠. Keep them coming 👌🏽🇳🇱
Wow, thank you Fitz! And thank you for the beautiful summary of Rotterdammers!
