Although Mav is just doing what Rooster's mother begged him to do and doesn't want Rooster to blame his late mother , so he shoulders the decision instead .

Sure, Bradley was raised by Maverick, but Mav would never hesitate in taking a shot, he would never hesitate periodt. And sure, Iceman may have been cocky and smug, he was still a team player. He'd never abandon his wingman like Jake does. The only thing I find similar is the friends/rivals relationship between the two. But other than that, I don't think they're that similar, which is a GOOD thing. It would have been too "on the nose" if their personalities had been similar. I much prefer Rooster and Hangman being their own selves and original characters with original personalities. ... Thanks for coming to my TED Talk-

Bunch of merc pilots have to, at night, fly through a canyon to evade radar detection to hit an oil refinery. The differences start to show after the aircraft make it through the ravine, when a bunch of Gen 1 Harriers show up and start wrecking the Mercs. The Area 88 OVAs came out in 1985/1986, so a tad before the first Top Gun. Better yet, a character (Mickey Simon) flies an F-14A, which is kinda funny.

  • RIP Goose, you were the only likeable character in this franchise. Fun Fact: Tom Cruise is perfect for the role, because he's short enough to fit into the cockpit.

  • Really didn't care for the first, but loved this one. The old man Maverick / old star Tom storyline was not lost on me. I love it when aging action stars have told this relevancy story (like Stallone in Rocky Balboa).

  • Just noticed that when they are making fun of Rooster's name (2:27) they say his name is "...Miles better than..." they are making fun of the actor's name also. That is very clever and quite meta.

    • @Vatsal Alright stop that’s what people said about Spider-Man No Way Home that it saved cinemas I went to the cinema months before these films came out but I understand it depends on which country you live. Both are ok films at best but I don’t mean to point these things out but it does frustrate me a bit when people make these assumptions.

    • @@ladyreverie7027 That seems to be an unpopular opinion I mean not seen it. I know Top Gun Maverick is the popular choice or The Batman. I think both were ok Top Gun Maverick was respectful to Val Kilmer I will give praise I mean the aerial sequences are well done but it's not enough for me to give it praise. Story I thought was derivative, love story I found forgettable and some of the supporting characters I thought were also that. The Batman was well-made I think. I liked the performances by Paul Dano and Jeffrey Wright but I found some of the characters clichéd in story and I wasn't sure of story either.
