For sure. But let’s be very clear here - the mummy would have also been bad if Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg would have been the main cast instead of mr Frazier and Rachel weisz
The genre is called adventure and it’s more like bad copies of Indiana Jones.
That and Peter Parkour

Fundamentally, the problem was that it wasn't an Uncharted movie, it was a Generic Action Movie starring Two Actors You Recognize, with some uncharted nuts sprinkled on top.
Dude, I hate to tell you this but... The stories of Uncharted are the stories of generic action movies. We just have more attachment to them because we directly interactct and the Uncharted games blend together that interaction to make it more seamless and immersive than any other series.

Hang on a minute. “Generic action movie with actors you recognize”… Why does that sound similar to something else that was released this year? Oh, wait…the January disaster that shall not be named.
Adapt any Uncharted game directly, and you have a generic action movie.
Even if they adapted the game perfectly it would still be inferior to playing the game. The artistry in those games are unmatched. I spent so much time in those games just taking in the sceneries.

I'll be honest, I haven't seen this movie, and it took me until the third or fourth "Parkour!" to realize that those were sound bites from The Office, and not actual lines from the movie of characters shouting "Parkour!"
The fact that you thought Tom Holland was saying Parkour everytime says everything about the movie. It actually feels like something the writes could have added.
I'm ashamed to admit it but same.
I'll be expecting "Parkour!" sound bytes at the end of the EWW video for this movie.
Here I thought they were real and that the writers were self-aware enough to make jokes in an obviously terrible film. Silly me.

Do you know how long it took for me to realize that all the shouts of "Parkour" in this were not from the film? Way longer than it should. This trailer made me think that it was the main character shouting "Parkour" every time he did something "Parkour-ish". Good on you, Screen Junkies. Good on you.
One of the funniest things I've ever seen is the MST3K guys doing the Twilight movies. Every time there is a long awkward pause they would yell "Line!" I mean it literally never got old. This was like that...just perfectly timed and insightful.

That’s how dumb this movie’s dialogue is that you would believe such a thing.
They worked on this movie for 10+ yrs and this is what they came up with. Truly a movie that seemed written from computer AI.
I didn't care for it at all. But I would look up how long Tangled took to be made, it was definitely longer than that. Fortunately that was a good movie. But sometimes I would guess they put a lot of money and time into a movie that's not great and there is not much they can do about it at that point except make it anyway.

The Kitty Got Wet Bar is a nod to one of the quips Nate in the games says when he kills goons. Nolan North just randomly shouted "Kitty got wet!" in the recording booth.
I think he said it because it is something his kid said but yeah I totally missed that in the movie. Nice Easter egg!

I liked the idea when the project was originally announced and implied to be in his teenage year. Didn't expect much but I thought maybe, JUST MAYBE, they could at least make something enjoyable. There's what I get for thinking .

When you listen to all the Honest Trailers back to back, it quickly becomes clear how furiously upset the epic voice guy actually is

This film is weird to me because it's another one of those game adaptions that makes one question where is the line drawn between supposedly trying to be it's own thing, but still cribbing elements from the games. You can't have notable elements from the games like this while also going "Oh, no no, this is a different version of Drake that still has some growing to do and a Sully that hasn't grown his mustache." They want to have this easy adventure film while also neglecting the strong character work that was even in the first game because "This is different, but actually it isn't."
Like what character work? I'm genuinely curious. I've never played the game.
@@asherujudo7383 I think the easiest thing to say is that's it's much more interesting to give the audience a sense of history with the characters without showing much of it than it is seeing two people blandly stumble together for the first time.

@@motherplayer yup. You got a sense of Nathan Drake and what he's like and the kind of background he has without making the first game an origin story. Uncharted 4 showed his origin, sure, but that origin played into the adventure of the game. The origin wasn't the adventure like it is in the film.

What I find so bizarre is why they had the ship battle in the first place. Each ship would be worth a fortune alone. So the bad guys could have secured the first ship, untie it, and THEN go after the protagonists. Even if they loss track of them, where would the protagonist take a galleon to? A town, a lone beach? It be pretty dam hard to hide a thing that big. An if the protagonists bail on the ship with the gold. The ship itself would still be worth millions, plus the value of the other ship and their share of the gold.

nathan fillion's uncharted short smashes this movie to pieces.
Adding the parkour lines from the office in the background made that so amazing.
Uncharted, Death Note, Cowboy Bebop, Assassin's Creed- they are some of the easiest IPs to adapt, but they still somehow messed up spectacularly.
They are using the worst writers on the planet, many of them from other countries because they work cheap. Also, many of these new writers never read any literature. Truly great writers after WWII were well-read and all studied literature in HS and some in graduate-level education. Another few generations and all scripts will be in Twittter-ese.
Gotta bust those writers' unions somehow.
I don't know about Death Note... There's a lot of thought/Mono-/Dialogue in there that doesn't translate to movie-audience very well. Though that doesn't excuse the existing clusterfck of "movies" with the same nah
@@EliasMheart Death Note if adapted well won't have the widest audience. But that's the problem- the assumption that every nerd ip appeals to the same demo.
Assassin's Creed is a difficult area I think. I liked the film but there is a lot to consider.
Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson and Ed Helms really gave the chef's kiss to this already perfect trailer. Well done!

I haven't seen the movie or played the games, but when i saw the poster for Uncharted while i went to the cinema for Sonic 2 i actually thought Mark was the guy playing Nathan because he looks more like the character from the games then Tom does.

By the end I was convinced that the words "Holy Sh**" made up about 50% of the script.
Uncharted should have been one of the easiest games to make a good movie adaptation out of.
We kind of have one. That low budget fan film Nathan Fillion did had the characters down exactly, even if the setting had to be "gangster's mansion with critical intel" because budget. Literally all that needed was a budget and another hour and 20 minutes, but Hollywood is Hollywood.
Could have been better than even Indiana Jones
We already have great Uncharted movies, they're called Uncharted 1 through 4.
But here is the thing: Sony is the least competent Hollywood studio.

Given that this was for Uncharted, I'm surprised more people took literal code at face value. I'm also curious about the significance of the twiiiiiins, but I was thinking it would be really funny if this was a clever baby announcement to friends by sending them the link to the video and asking them to decode it.

Again Nathan Fillion was the best Live Action Nathan Drake. Don't get why they just didn't give the guys behind the Nathan Fillion Uncharted film like $20 million and told them to go nuts. Like they could've stuck with Marky Mark and El Hijo Del Marky Mark if they wished but at least they would've done an Uncharted film.

The makers of this movie were almost daring you to have a go. At one point, the two crosses are joined together to make a literal 'double cross'! And when the Marky Mark character pushed the 'autopilot' button, I was sure that was going to be in this Honest Trailer. I guess there was just too much material.
When you've been out-acted by PS3 cutscenes, there might be a problem.
I mean.... for Uncharted they used actual proper actors not just random interns reading the script, actors they mocaped together acting out those scenes, not just combat animation and a highly experienced director (Gordon Hunt). so its not like Uncharted, etc level of video game acting was normal at the time. its more common now, bit it didn't used to be and that acting even then was on part with live action productions. Movie's issues was that there was no heart to the writing. characters didn't feel like characters, they felt like excuses for action scenes/quip dispensers. The whole thing felt like it was written by an algorithm.
Didn't pander to China every 45 minutes. Seems like the algorithm missed
