Over the last month, I challenged 3D artists with the Alternate Realities CG challange. I provided an animation for everyone to work from, and the results were stunning. 2,400 artists delivered, the top 100 were chosen for this montage, and 5 of them walked away with insane prizes from Rokoko, Wacom, Quixel, PNY and Aftershokz (I personally reached out to my favorite companies in order to give away the tools I use every day.)

0:43 is definitely my favorite one. These are very good renders but many do not tell a story at all. Where are they going? What are they pulling ad why? What does the world in the background mean to the character? This one answers all of those questions.
If the animation he gave wasn’t leaning forward and was walking normally every entry on this list would’ve been different. It’s interesting that the posture and stance of the character implies so many things to each artist
i agree! the fact that the movement is different from just walking can change the storytelling and how artists interpret it is just mind blowing
Its also amazing how one circle template can be interpret to many things. And its also not necessarily just one thing/structure.
I love this pose in particular because it shows hardships weighing down on the character yet the character still trotting on, and so each animation has a backstory behind the hardships. I find the diversity fascinating.
Some don't quite add enough resistance in the environment to make lean look right
I am surprised we didnt see more "Pushing" animations, most of them where "pulling" or "walking through a storm" kinda deal.

How do we have so many talented artists and still get movies like boss baby every fucking year
Hiring 200 of these guys is too expensive for them
Because it’s not a matter of the effort put into it, it’s the idea, boss baby was centered around a baby who’s also really smart, because of this, the animation has to reflect the childish adventures in it, to make it better for the children audience. In animating a movie, the animation has to fit the movie itself, These are amazing, talented productions though, yeah
there are two sad reasons, first, movies like boss baby five more profit, cuz costs less hits a lot of public(kid and the kids parents). Second, ita takes sooo long to make great animations, remember that each one of this images was like, 6 seconds.
Exactly😂😂

@C0DE T0DE Yes there is. Several of these entries build a story for us in the few moments that they’re on screen, even more so if you rewatch them to inspect certain parts a bit closer. I’m not sure you actually watched the video if you can come away from it and think “there’s no story at all”.
But “at its peak”? Uhm come on.
@@lucbloom at its peak may not be the right words, but its so cool that so many of these manage to set such a world in 3 seconds
@@lucbloom I’d say for some of them, “at its peak” is fair. They have such a limited amount of time, and such specific conditions to meet, yet some of the, have built up entire worlds and characters that you can easily understand at a glance. Obviously you can’t go in depth with a lot of them, but you can still get plenty of detail. “Show don’t tell” is such an important principle with storytelling, and this does exactly that.

Same me 2
Replying in case somebody has an answer
Average is about 65 hours for all 2400 clips
Depends on the person and the performance of their machine. Some opt to build their own materials (textures) while others choose to use purchased packs. Same is true for the environmental lighting. Some will properly retopologize while others decimate. Some won't dare sacrifice realism for render times while others choose to eliminate it all together and go with cartoon type shaders and simple lighting. So on and so forth. One could accomplish what is requested in as little as 10 hours if it's not a "scratch build" - meaning that models and material are already available and would provide no more than a weeks work (+/-50 hours) to complete a task such as this from scratch.
