In February of 2024 I challenged 3D artists to create a unique piece of art based around a simple provided template co-created by @shapiro500. In 1 month, I received 2,800 entries, from 104 countries, totaling 21.5 years of communal work. For this montage, I curated my top 100 renders, accompanied by original music from @Feverkin

It's just mindblowing to be able to imagine entire backstory of a world and how it operates just by watching 5 seconds of it.
my exact thoughts
That entire world, all of its unique rules, all of its characters, all of its history before that 5 seconds snapshot, all of them just fills your mind naturally and you can connect the dots. You don't need to put all these ideas and feelings into words. They just suddenly exist in your brain as a whole after watching for 5 seconds. You can write a whole book for each of these worlds if you really want. That is just magical.
I was going to comment the same thing! Such dense world building, it's incredible.
To expand, I think that shows the viewers imagination is just as magical as the talent of the contributing artists. Absolutely love these videos!
What's astonishing is that this is your brain doing all the math and storytelling with a little help from some cgi 😊

I didnt notice at first but a friend pointed it out 7:49. At first glance its a boy being playful and balancing a ball on his head while climbing stairs however he has his hands raised and a bomb is strapped to his back walking towards the soldiers 😢. Its so deep

@@jerry-hj2mj and watched many more than twice! I have been out of the 3D loop since a decade+, so finding the details of these mindblowing. Crowds and all in some, incredible detail and animations from the very background all the way to the front, intricate physics sims, etc.

7:27 this one for some reason is one of the most realistic ones. This 3D walk is very slow and almost heavy. So when some of them are in battle and they are walking so slow it doesn’t quite look right. But this one, she is so weighed down by the weight of her child’s death that her walk matched her mood.

4:38 is so chilling. The grim reaper just casually walking up to his next victim. Especially seeing that help had arrived, but so had death.

I thought it was serial killer
starting from the samurai before that, it was back to back bangers. that portion of the vid was all dark in tone and im all for it.
That does look a bit haunting. I see it in 2 ways: 1. It's death approaching to bring the end of suffering for the person who had a car accident. 2. we see the firefighters or ambulance arriving and the grim reaper approaching. So it's the race between life and death to see who can reach them first and death seems almost merciful because he could have hurried when he saw the ambulance but he is still walking calmly and patiently.

The idea that the character might be tired, carrying something heavy, or leisurely taking his time and enjoying his day of sport, all incorporated here. It feels really clever 😁

@@TK-cz3ms never never too late. This is just one specific example but I might put 100 hours of time into this piece. Blender is a good program to start with. So many free resources online to help you along your way.
It's not just time taken but you need to invest money to buy a beefy PC for rendering and the 3D software

Just... amazing, the deph of emotions each scene can bring. Feverkin's soundtrack in the back with all of those images, it's just... perfect. My mind kept drifting ever so quickly on each scene trying to figure out what the artist felt, and how would it be like to be in the world they've created. Awesome work, pwnisher and team.

These projects are almost like the antithesis of AI. You still create a prompt, but the results are all human generated and so varied
And AI will consume those ideas so it can regurgitate them for someone else in a slightly different way.
@@dogelife7901while AI might become more prevalent, take pride in knowing that most if not all its ideas that it takes and uses come FIRST from the mind of a human, for we truly are the pioneers of what’s unknown and these simple yet profound short animations is a testimony to what we truly are capable of.
The sad part is that I had to actually double check sometimes, because the artstyle is so similar to the ones AI uses. It must be really sad to have your work used as some sort of “food” for a computer and then get it known as “generic, AI style”.
It's scary how many people are willing to fully embrace a synthetic or virtual reality, or a biosynthetic SELF. As a small mercy though, thankfully everyone will be long gone before the machine gets its chance to finish killing off humanity's soul. Turns out, technology can't replace a dead nature, hard as many have been trying.

5:37 I'm so glad that my render made it into the Top 100 montage :) my concept of the Roman dodecahedron emerged from the mystery surrounding its actual usage. Continuously refining my ideas, conclusively, I aimed to portray it as a power of creative inspiration that aiding us in overcoming obstacles and continuing ascent metaphorically, and I expressed it through Hellenistic Geometry. I enjoyed refining my ideas during the challenge and look forward to another enjoyable experience next time. Congratulations to all participating artists!

Hello, did you do rendering and animation and modeling and simulation, textures and so on yourself?
@@egormykhailov7639 I used the collapsed statue models and background roman columns from quixel megascan assets, and I purchased the scholar character model from cgtrader. However, the scholar character model was not rigged, so I had to rig it myself and also made modifications to the model and texture maps for storytelling purposes. and yes, everything else was created by myself from scratch. :)

I feel like this is the most creative one yet. The number of things people can do with the background is insane.
Not only is it a challenge to create the whole thing, but it is also a challenge to convey a story in that creation in only 5 seconds. 7:47 made my stomach drop once I realized the story it was telling, and, amazingly, you can tell something so impactful in such a short moment. These are like the video equivalent of a Haiku, and I love them all.

These are just amazing, it’s like looking though a Lens into other worlds, peoples lives, they are all walking up stairs but all experiencing such different lives and situations. It’s honestly beautiful.

This was just absolutely incredible and shows how far 3D art has come… Particularly as I wouldn’t call myself a fan of the medium and yet this managed to build entire worlds and show creativity on a level that I didn’t think was possible with such a brief and basic premise.

I loved the ones combining 2D and 3D, 2:02, 3:33 and 7:07 (maybe 2:31 as well). 5:38 is so esoteric, fantastic. Every frame from 7:28 is a work of art. Man, I love all of them!
