SteelSeries Rival 310 Review (Large, Optical, 92g, Omron Mech)
Over 18 years in Quake and more than 75 mouse reviews, and the Rival has always been a bit of a favourite for me. The problems were it being too big and too heavy. Well it's still a bit too big for my hand, but the weight is now down to 92g. It also has an updated optical, which shouldn't suffer from the tilt-slam spin outs.
There are some minor build quality concerns, but overall it's quite good. I'm hoping my sample copies won't be as good as the retail ones... time will tell. Definitely worthy of being in the Top 10, and it starts its life at #4.
Medium large, large mouse, be sure to check the hand size guide to get an idea of if it's suited to you.

This mouse is underrated, i recently dug it out of the collection and started using it again. :)
Have you had the side grip problems i heard theres alot of those problems
baki personally I’ve had no problems
MrGlob same
@@slycooper4946 mine recently broke and ive had it since december 2018
@@conormoore2012 eh too late i found out that ambidextrous mice are better for me.
You legit make the best mouse reviews there is on KZhead! You are honest and you never miss a thing! After I watch your video I really feel like i know the mouse in and out! Just keep it up and I'll be happy at least! ;)
u've tackled all my doubts, thank you, this review is satisfying
Thank you for the review zy. I bought this mouse and I can comfortably say that my aim has improved a lot. I also noticed that i could do some self boosts in csgo much more easily. Overall I'm really happy with the mouse and i can also say that it didn't have any issues with double clicking or with the sides coming off.
Mouse broke and I've been watching tons of your videos to find a replacement. I love your voice haha. Great vids too, thank you!
Two new videos in one day?! Y E S. I don't know if it's just me but whenever you upload a new video I immediately watch it!
I see these comments a lot... which is awesome, thanks all! :D
They were made beforehand obviously. Then steelseries tells everyone it's ok to release media on xyz date
Hey, I enjoy all of your stuff but have a suggestion for something to add to your videos. It would be helpful if you could compare the rubberized side grips between different mice. For instance, I can't use the Deathadder in its stock configuration because after a few minutes, the rubber grips become so slippery that I can't pick the mouse up. Since it may be difficult for you to predict whether other users will suffer issues that don't apply to you, it could still be useful to compare the grips to those of other mice. For instance, if the Rival's rubber sides feel the same as the Deathadder's, then it would be a no-go for me, but if they are substantially different, then perhaps it would be worth a look.
But it's not like its entertaining content.. Its mouse reviews to see if a mouse is right for you..
I very excited about this mouse. Light, the shape looks good for me, fair enough buttons, good sensor. I hope i can try it (and the Kone EMP too). Thanks for the second review today. :)
This review is super good, you give us every little detail and it helped me buy the rival 310 and it was worth every penny. I absolutely love it and it fits my hand very well ( my hands are about 18.5 x 10cm) i was surprised how high quality the rubber/silicon is on the sides. Rival 310 is just amazing
Thanks for your input. My hand is 19 x 10.5, and i was confused between this and the tuf m3
I recently got the zowie fk1 to replace my Deathadder elite (which I also got because of your videos), I absolutely love them both, thanks for making these videos and I hope you grow so your wish of doing this full time will come true!
Dude, you're on a roll. 2 videos in one day. We really appreciate it as we don't have to waste money without prior knowledge, so thank you.
Wow Zy you're getting ther...with the 100k subs and soon you'll do it every day :) .Amazing video!
I'm really happy that Steelseries made this mouse, as I fairly recently bought the rival 300, and it is the absolute best mouse that I have ever had, just because the shape fits me really well. Now I have something to upgrade to.
I love your mouse reviews and Just subbed rocket jump keep up the hard work you deserve 200k+ plus subs!
Whats great about his videos are that there's LITERALLY NOTHING you can possibly dislike about them. Every video is slick, informative and very professional!! Great Job Zy
Your commitment to improving and providing a better video experience is impressive. I know some people complaint about some of the subjectivity things you do but I think you give a good perspective about mice. Most of your complaints come from people who are from overclocknet or r/mousereview people who are too involved in technical testing imo. You've become one of my favorite youtubers and I don't really even play video games that much anymore!

I had Rival 300 for a while. And it had sensor issues where it froze while lifting it. Good thing i had my warranty. Now since there is no 300 in the store. I was offered 310 instead. I think i will be happy with it. Thanks for the review as always!
You are our Bob Ross of mouse reviews
I love your camera work, it's so profesional and clear.
Hardware Canucks also has some pretty amazing camera work
I like how you start your videos with the summary of the review and not with the typical... HEY! WELCOME TO ANOTHER MOUSE REVIEW! I. AM. ROCKET JUMP NINjah... you get it.
Buying both of these no joke. asap. Love you Zy!!!
You make me want to grab Rival 310 to my collection :)
hey zy, i recently got this mouse, i live in uae so could not use the link, sry abt that. but man, where the zowie took me months to get used to. this took a day. ur "rough" guide i actually super accurate.
Just bought this mouse after reading some reviews, including yours, alongside steelseries RGB mousepad, just for the sake of being shinny. I went with another mouse months ago that is also in your list of good ones, the Corsair Glaive, but like so many people out there, the double click problem plagues a lot of units (if not all) after some time of use. This makes the mouse unusable, which is sad, since I just got a Corsair k95 platinum to pair them up this blackfriday. Hope the Rival 310 will be a good replacement for now. Thanks for all your videos btw, they are so handful.
one of my fav reviewers for modern keyboards and mice
positive changes from the previous rival 300, definitely looking forward to buy this mouse.
I've already found my ultimate gaming mouse of choice which is Logitech G703 Wireless white yet I still enjoy watching your mouse reviews. If some space agency would've had sent a new Gold Record like the one on the Voyager spacecraft, it should contain one of your videos marked as "Here's how we do computer mouse reviews".
SteelSeries advertised the Rival 300's 3310 as having "true 1 to 1 tracking". What makes them say that this sensor is the 'world's first' true 1 to 1 tracking.
Please could you do a detailed shape comparison between the Rival 310 and the Rival 300?
ur mouse reviews are better than others
he is trash
Love your mouse reviews
This is the first time I've kept refreshing a KZhead channel for a new video :D
EffieTV same :D
I'm having a hard time choosing between the Rival 300 & Zowei EC2-B. I've been using the Razer Deathadder for a long time but started to have sensor issues and random disconnects. I like the shape of both the Rival 310 & Zowei EC2-B though the 310 is much sleeker looking and the EC2-B is much more simpler. Both are amazing, but I think I'll lean more towards the 310. Thanks for the review!
Would like to ask though, I'm not used to SS mice. Rival or Sensei to claw (Although ambidextrous mice may be better for that) ?
Sensei, Rival is better for palm, Sensei for claw
👌
I'm torn between this and the Zowie ZA - i quite like the hump at the back of the Zowie but i like the size of this the Rival 310
That high tech line graph sold me.
Good stuff, as always!
Love your channel! New sub but long-time viewer. Appreciate the good work you do. Can you please advise regarding a top-sensor mouse for wide hands? I have 11cm hand width (19.5cm in length) and can't find a comfy mouse. I have a fingertip/claw grip.
Hey zy, I've noticed subtle things that have changed in your setup... any plans for a setup video any time soon
I love your reviews Zy, but I definitely think name dropping sensors is worth it for fans. I'm not interested in the rival 310 (too big for me) but according to steelseries the sensor is based on the 3360. That's good info to know. :-)
I've had the G403, G Pro, DeathAdder Elite and now the Rival 310. Gotta say I found the Rival 310 the best of the bunch. The only downside is the slight rattle of the main clicks which the DeathAdder Elite has a variation of as well, it just feels mushy in comparison. Unlike the DeathAdder Elite I could actually get used to the Rival 310. Overall far less annoyances than the G403, G Pro and the DeathAdder Elite. Better coating than the G403 and G Pro (huge deal), better side buttons (no piano black finish that gathers gunk), better sensor placement than G403 (took weeks to get used to), better scroll wheel click/steps (also no god-forsaken wheel rattle) and better cable. G403 is slightly more comfortable. More comfortable than the DeathAdder Elite, better scroll wheel click/steps, no rattle, slightly better side buttons (due to the shape), lighter overall and better cable. The scroll wheel on my Rival 310 manufactured in 2018 does sound better than yours does in this video. Perhaps they made some improvements. It's insanely good for bunnyhopping.
This exactly how I felt. I had the g403 for 3 weeks and it started to produce a rattle. I took it back to store and got 310. I have old 300 but prefer the shape of 310.
Could you maybe review the Razer Sphex V2 mousemat? I've had my eye on it for a while and I'd love to have your opinion on it.
The new Rival and Sensei seem awesome, really does seem like SteelSeries listened to what people wanted. Also on a side note: interesting to see you do testing fully on QC now Zy (at least in the video, i imagine you still went through your usual quake live routine).
Some things are just for show. ;)
Rocket Jump Ninja still, I like it, gets me excited for when the game is good enough for proper testing :D
@rocket jump ninja I have a 20cm hand what would you recommend rival 310 or ec1-a?
The only downfall for me right now is i cant test it in my hand in person, so im a bit worried about choosing between the sensei 310 or rival 310 :(
If you have a store near you that is likely to sell gaming mice (places like Best Buy, I don't know any other names) go there and ask if they have a sensei 310 and rival 310 you can try out. They most likely will since both mice came out pretty recently.
Same, im getting one of those but not sure which one.
For FPS games, Rival is better. Sensei is a laser mouse, therefore has acceleration that FPS players dont care for.
pretty sure the rival 310 and sensei 310 use the same sensor now
L1ngyy sensei is for RIGHT handed gamers, choose wisely!
If you're still using the fk2, would you be interested in reviewing things like the Ceesa custom cords or hyperglides to see how they compare with standard cables and mouse feet?
I went through about 10 mice to find the right one. This is the one I chose. It's the best shape and texture and that's what I ended up valuing the most because I was getting really bad hand cramps from the other mice. I think it had to do with claw gripping too much on smaller mice. I also have a back up ambidextrous mouse for when I want to get into my try hard fps mode, but 90% of the time I use this.
just ordered this mouse, cant wait to try it out tonight!
Is it good
How was it after a year?!? i am trying to choose a mouse and i think it'll be rival 310 :) recommend or not?
I would be interested in a video comparing or reviewing the mouse software, their features and how you rank them between SS Engine, Logitech, Razer, etc.
Hey Zy, can you give me some tips and tricks for duel mode in Quake Champions? Playing Deathmatch and Team Deatchmatch very well, but getting kicked badly in Duel Mode.
I like this one better than the Sensei 310. It's lighter (and generally quite light for its size), has a fairly safe shape (compared to the G403 with its somewhat irritating hump) and no major flaws. Definitely gonna pick one up in the future. Btw, both the Sensei and Rival have the 3360.
pzogel it's truemove3 not 3360. Yea truemove3 is basically 3360 with another name like logitech 3366 and razer 3 something
It's most likely a 3360 with a custom SROM.
SteelSeries A wild SteelSeries appeared!
Dude please post more quake gameplays, I do not even play but love watching 😄
steel series should totally either take the left and click from the 600 and put in on the 310 or take the 310's side buttons and side grips and put them on the 600 that would then be the perfect mouse
Brandon Avila steelseries* bro :)
Brandon Avila steelseries 310 better than steelseries rival 600
Shape of Rival 600 sucks got it for 2days hurting my fingers and feeling fucking umcorfortable and Bad grip when lifting the mouse as a low sense player
FINALLY YOU UPLOAD THIS ONE :)
Did you prefer the Sensei or the Rival when playing quake?
This one fit my hand perfectly!
I changed to Rival 310 after M3 broke on my ec2-a. So far I like it. Although, it takes some time to get adjusted to a new grip the bigger size hasn't been a problem to me personally. I recommend it if you're looking for a upgrade sensor wise from ec2-a. Though, try it before buying if it suits your grip.
i have 21x10.5 cm hands, and rival 300 was the only esport muse that fit my hand, def gonna upgrade it now. nice indept vid
ewweg This one is shorter. Rival 600 is longer than this one.
I just got this mouse about a week ago. Upgraded from the 300 and its amazing. Noticeably lighter. I like the shape more, and the sensor is fantastic.
hey did u have any problem using it ??
Hello Zy pls do a video comparing the new and old sensei and the rival 300 and 310. Or if you prefer do a video next month to say how the rival 310 is holding on in quality terms
Hey Zy, I have the same hand size as you and I was just wondering if you pinch your pinkie finger against the side when using this mouse? I'm trying to decide what mouse to get over the Rival 310 and the Deathadder Elite. Thanks for the review!
I have been using this mouse for a prolonged period of time, and can offer some more nuanced circumstantial feedback that might be useful to any potential buyers that most reviewers may not be reasonably able to provide from short-term use: Firstly, the mouse does deserve all of the praise poured onto it; the dimensions and weight distribution are ideal for me/the recommended size (19:10), and allows for flexible grip variations, as mine is not always stable depending on what movements are required, and for this the rubber grips are a great benefit and do not wear with time. The remainder would simply be a repetition of the above video. However, there are some qualities regarding my person to take into consideration that make repurchasing this mouse difficult, that is those with naturally oily, excess skin/dusty environments/etc, or with very warm hands may wish to reconsider for the following reasons: - An oily complexion means this type of plastic requires frequent cleaning as it blemishes rapidly - A dirty environment to any degree means that dirt will tend to accumulate within the cracks - below and between the primary and side mouse buttons, as well as within the grooves of the grip. Although using a thin implement is perfectly reasonable, it can become an issue because of the following point. - Those with naturally warm hands will find that after extended use and during an extended play session the heat from their hands will begin to melt the glue that attaches the side grips. In this state, the glue can travel within or to the base of the mouse, mousepad , or the fingers, resulting in potential temporary inconsistencies in movement and dirt accumulation around the exposed areas. With the overall amount of glue reduced, the grips are less secure and the above state is achieved with reasonable consistency; at around 1:40 the the side grooves, where the fingertips may come into contact with, is where adhesive residue can accumulate. Because of the above reasons, after wearing the plastic contacts sufficiently that a new mouse is in order, I am forced to consider an alternative, which is difficult because of the unique rival shape.
What gripstyle do you generally use?
@@StarcraftSwarm I typically use a claw/fingertip gripstyle.
Just wanted to say thank you. I just bought it and its the best mouse ever.
Ive been using the Rival 300 for a while and fell in love with its size. Even stopped using razor naga for WoW and just key-bound more keyboard stuff. I'm a tall guy, I have big hands. It's one of my favorites. I just wish I could replace the grippy stuff on the side. It feels weird and is mostly worn off. I don't want to buy a new mouse just for that wearing down, seems silly. When the mouse still works great. That being said, would you replace this mouse with a 310 is the 300 was slightly larger? Do you think I would still be happy with it?
I got this mouse for Christmas of last year. It is a very good mouse, with excellent build quality but I have had one problem with it. The issue is that when holding down the left click, it will repeatedly click multiple times. It's hard to explain, but it will un-click for a split second and then click again. I've been noticing this when I'm bored and messing around with the drag and select (not sure what else to call it) feature on my home screen. This is the only issue I've had, and I think you can fix it but other than that it is a great mouse.
The way your hand sits on the mouse and the position of your fingers does help with the aim. Having your fingers straight on the mouse and aligned with the buttons helps because pointing the crosshair becomes a lot like pointing with your index finger at something. It is very natural and intuitive, no need to adjust for hand position or move your wrist more to one side than the other.
hi can you plz review the msi clutch gm 40 . i heard that it uses the same sensor as the zowie for half the price
I hope to see and possibly test the feel in a local store as this seems a nice mouse. My hands are 20x10 cm and find it quiet difficult to find a comfortable good gaming mouse specially regarding the thumb buttons which I would use frequently, as I have quiet tall thumbs and often the buttons sit too much to the back of the mouse for my personal comfort. Any recommendations for palm and/or finger grip.
Rival 300 has side buttons more towards the front unlike other mice I used/tried, so I would recommend it for you.
What's that mousepad that you use the Rival 310 on in the Quake Champions Tests?
I thought about getting this mouse because of the sensor but I'm just too much in love with my zowie fk2. What would you recommend?
Waitin' for that special edition skinned 310
How is the lift off distance?(i know he talks about it in here) Ive recently boght a roccat pure SE, and for me the distance is really big, and i hate it. And there's a howl edition in discount near me and i have always wanted it. Is it worth it?
do you have any recommendations for 18 by 11 cm? I'm having a real rough time finding a mouse thats perfect for me. I've spent hundreds of dollars on different mice over the last year.
how long is the wire? best reviews ive seen
I love my Rival 310, but now I will buy a Zowie mouse. Which do is the most similar - ZA11 or FK1? Thanks
I switched mine for Zowie EC1-A White. The silicon coating on the sides of R310 irritated my fingers constantly and made them sweat.
Also a question, do left handed people use their left hand for the mouse ? I don't and I don't know if it reduces my skill level in CS go.
could you do a video on the Delux M618 Plus Wired Ergonomic Vertical Mouse? It says it's for gaming and very comfortable, would like your opinion on this.
I second reviews for vertical mice.
So I've had a rival classic up until now and I've been very happy with it, it's comfortable for me even doe I have smaller hands - 16.5 cm. Should I go for the 310 or something else?
Hi , Rocket Jump Ninja . Can you do armagaddon sro-5 v2.0 review ? I'll appreciated
I've been using the Rival 310 as my daily driver for a long time now (Around 1 year to be exact) and here are my view on it: *Sensor:* Zero problems, tracks incredibly. *Shape:* Very comfortable and ergonomic for right handed users. *Mouse 1,2 and 3:* All seem to be working as new, zero problems and mouse button 1 and 2 do not clash with each other like some mice might do. Furthermore, scroll wheel has good grip and good to use *RGB Feature:* Very easy to use the software and make it any colour you want. Other mentions: If your hands are even a small bit sweaty the top plastic will become slippery and shiny and you have to wipe it frequently. But once you stop sweating its fine.
Cant sweat in CS, bad mouse!
Vispectra Vispectra No the problem is, if your hands are sweaty before you use it it is bad. If you get sweaty during the use you don’t notice it and it’s fine
Simonstar lol bro I saw your comment on another rival review. I guess you are just spreading your word
Shmunx Yup, gotta let people know how good it is.
Wonder if this is good for an 18x10cm hand that claws
My favorite mouse of all time is the Rival 310. I cannot find anything that is similar, since you are also a fan of the mouse i'm wondering if you have any personal recommendations on finding it. The 700 is discontinued. I really wanted a wireless version :(
bro does mouse software cause any delay ? should i use mouse driver or no TIA (using rival 310)
hey zy. Is the grip width for the 310 the same as on the 300?
Guys and ninja which one should i buy Deathadder Elite or Rival 310 or Logi 403
Hey im not sure if you read this, but one thing i think is missing from your reviews is an issue im having with the logitech g9x: mouse buttons click when mouse is dropped back down from a lift. Quick actions = quick drop... and this mouse fires mouse1 and 2 too often. Looking at your reviews to find a mouse, but still dont know if any of these mice suffer from this flaw.
can u do a plubable mouse review?
hi, just want to ask if there is other mouse that have the same shape as the cooler master mouse included with the masterkey lite l combo? since the mastermouse s is hard to find here.
Can you do a review on the Qpad 8K Optical?
What are your thoughts on the mouse?
rain uses it?
Thanks!
Would you recommend upgrading from the rival 300, 300 is a bit big for me what's your opinion?
I have the exact same hand sizes as You can You tell me what is the Best mouse that fits You this or the zowie ec2-a
Great B roll dude
I have been using this mouse for a month and its fine performance wise but the silcone grips are the worst they started peeling of after the 3rd week. What should i do?
Im ordering this mouse right now.. ty ZY finally i decided after i was lost between razer DA and logitech g403
I bought a rival 310 last week and im having trouble with the led lights, it keeps on changing even though I set it to a fixed color. Also when I alt+tab sometimes it changes. I mean its not on a fix color sometimes, I dont know if its because of the software or my mice. Can you help me with this one since you are a affiliate of steelseries?
So I'm deciding between the g502 the g403 and maybe the g303, I have been leaning towards the g502 and I the weight won't be problem bc I can still flick a mouse with that weight very well. I have a palm/fingertip hybrid grip and my hands are 7-7.25 inches long and 4 inches wide. Suggestions?
g502 has a lot of useless buttons, unless you also play MMO, but i guess you play FPS so g403 would be better.
My favorite mouse of all time is the Rival 310. I CANNOT find a wireless version of it. I just want something with a similar shape, any recommendations?
Hey man, I've been following your content for a while and I really appreciate your reviews. I bought my last mouse based on your reviews, an EC2-A and I am a happy with it. But my brother needs a new mouse as his last one got screwed up over time, I was thinking I'd buy one of these new Steelseries mice and give my EC2-A to my brother. I think both Rival 310 and Sensei 310 looks amazing and if I'm not mistaken, they have same tech but different shapes, right? In general which mouse would you recommend? And for an EC2-A user specifically, which one would be your recommendation? I'd appreciate if you could take the time to give me an opinion here as EC2-A was one of your favorite mice ever if I recall correctly. Cheers, have a nice day.
Well, first of all, remember that both of 310 mice are a lot bigger than EC2-a. Considering that you used ergo mouse such as EC2-a, you will probably find Rival's shape more comfortable than ambidexterous Sensei, but who knows, maybe you will find Sensei more comfortable.
MaDNiaC Sensei will be easier to pickup due to hump on the right and Rival will be more comfortable and lighter.
One year after using this mouse: The plastic grips on the side have rubbed against the mouse pad causing them to peel the off. The left mouse button is double clicking with a single click. The unsymmetrical right side provides good comfort to the hand and stops my little finger from dragging on the mousepad. The way that it is angled however, makes it a tad slippy to pick up when the palms get sweaty. Didn’t know about hand-size to mouse ratios before watching this channel. Mouse is too large for my hand for precise aiming. Very comfortable though.
whats your hand size thoughhhhh
