  • I love Samoyeds and they've been in my family for decades. They're such a gentle, loving breed, with TONS of energy, strength and power. They are smiling all the time. Yeti's tail is often hanging, because he's normally always so relaxed. Thanks for posting this video!

    • Yeti’s Place! Okie dokie..... I am 9yrs old and I have a miniature schnauzer I have a Dad who works at home and a mum who does some jobs in town. We own a VERY big garden and we are capable of taking it on walks as we need the exercise! 😂 Here are my questions..... 1. On a scale of 1 to 10 how much do Samoyeds need attention? 2. I love your vids 😘😁😂 3. Which is best for a smaller home? Female or male? 4. How old is Yeti? Thanks xx I REALLY appreciate this, also.... any persuasion tips to convince my parents?

  • There's nothing cuter than that sammy smile and the howl 😂 i mean, for real, who can resist those things ❤ my dog is half samoyed and half Finnish lapphund, he looks exactly like a sammy (the coat, eyes, smile etc) but he's pitch black with pure white markings. A dog from my dreams. I've never seen a kinder or a more loyal dog ever in my life.

  • I have had 2 of these adorables. You should train them well bc they are strong herding dogs and can pull you down if not properly trained. They are NOT "Russian" dogs but Arctic, Nordic or Siberian. They existed long before the Russian Empire. They r extremely human- oriented. Do NOT need bathing more than every 5-6 months if regularly brushed. They need to defecate 2x daily and to urinate 5-6 x in a 24 hour period. So, walks r good but if u can't walk them for a period of time bc u r working, you can do that later when u r at home. Excercise v good for them but they can easily stay in a home w/o potty break for up to 10 hours if properly trained. (Good idea is to give them a treat every time they go outdoors; this way, they will not be inclined 2 potty inside.)They are very faithful and loving pets; I cannot imagine life without them. Totally non- aggressive dogs. They really are like large teddy bears.

    • Yes you do. As a groomer for 30years i can tell you that daily brushing and bath abd brush out are required every 6-8 weeks in order to keep the coat healthy and unmatted or compressed and to keep the skin free of dirt and dryness. They shoud never be clipperd short as their double coat provides insulation from both heat and cold. Twice a year they also need a deshed. They shed all 9f the time but blow their coats twice a year. The deshed com0letely gets out dead hair and leaves the healthy live new coat. This is also vital to maintain healthy skin. Bad skin, bad coat. So if your thinking about getting one, make sure you factor into their care a bimonthly grooming. Which can go from 50$ if they are maintained correctly. And go up fr9. There depend8ng on the c9ndition of the dog

  • hmm, here in sweden the samoyed breed have a highly "hunting-instinct". Very few samoyed-owners can have their sammy off-leash, and the sammies takes every chance to hunt. I'm lucky and can have my samoyed off-leash, but that pretty un-common here in the north. And my sammy would ruin my apartment if he didnt get exercised for atleast 2-6 hours a day, The samoyed is usually both herding-dog, hunting-dog and a sleddog like huskies. Otherwise I think this was a good video =)

    @soniapal9308@soniapal93083 жыл бұрын
  • I own a Samoyed and meet other Samoyed owners. Those are absolutely wonderfull dogs. I do disagree with some points in the video: Most Samoyeds have a very, very strong prey drive when outside (but are good with other pets). Grooming needs daily effort, but it is also simple: Just brush out the undercoat, never forget the area behind the ears and forelegs to avoid matting. Don't bath your Samoyed with Shampoo. Let him swim in a clean river or lake once or twice a week. If he's muddy, just dry with a towel. Let the whole dog dry - most of the dirt falls of on it's own - then brush, brush, brush as usually and he'll be fluffy, white and clean again. Carrying a backpack while hiking is a good exercise for those strong dogs (wait until their bones are fully grown, let them carry only 10-12% of their bodyweight). They are sensitive to heat, so no running besides a bike or pulling a sledge/Trike when it's 15° C degrees or warmer. Walking or hiking is fine up to 25°C, make sure to take water with you. If it's more than 25°C only short walks in the morning or late evening and some treadmill training inside a cool room. Somebody asked, if 3x20 minute daily walks are enough. Yes, for a pug or a Chihuahua. Not for a Samoyed. Unless it's 32° C .

    @cordulam@cordulam5 жыл бұрын
    • Agreed. We have a samoyed and he hunts rabbits, and he will obliterate the little mouse things in a millisecond when we are on walks. Just grabs and destroys before the leash even gets slack.

  • I liked your video but would note 2 areas of disagreement. You mentioned a lack of hunting instincts when other experts and my own observation with my 2 Samoyeds shows just the opposite. They will go after any small bird/squirrel/rabbit and even coyotes if given the chance. And they are not easy to train compared to other dogs, they are much harder to train because they are inherently very stubborn as are the alpine breeds.

    @purplify3159@purplify31593 жыл бұрын
  • They’re also hypoallergenic

    @danielker7552@danielker75525 жыл бұрын
    • Daniel Ker apparently no animal is hypoallergenic it’s just some breeds of animals are less prone to aggravate people with allergies.

      @ladyukkey7699@ladyukkey76995 жыл бұрын
    • @@ladyukkey7699 I also thought that, in fact it was why I picked a Sammy as my first dog back in the 80's, but they are not hypoallergenic, just less prone to triggering allergic responses. It's not the hair or fur that triggers allergic responses but the dried saliva from licking themselves and shed from their coat.

    • I'm not saying your dogs don't have a hunting instinct but the Samoyeds I've been around (in the dozens, maybe over 100 by now) all have a strong herding instinct as well as a protective instinct towards their 'pack'.

    • Because a dog needs physical exercise.... Some dogs need more or less than others. Overall a samoyed needs quite a bit of physical exercise and or mental stimulation. Otherwise the dog can become depressed, or destructive, or aggressive.

    • Samoyeds are only white. The AKC defined them around 1906 in the US.They have very specific features. They only have been in civilization for about 125 years, so they are not a typical American household dog. U can only get them from Samoyed breeders and they are very expensive . (Think $2K). They have been very well bred and if u buy one from a breeder, you normally get a guarantee and their ancestral pedigree.They are wonderful animals. I have had 2.

    • Samoyeds come in tints of white, a black Samoyed is a melanistic Samoyed, meaning it’s coat is void of colour. It’s the opposite of albinoism.

  • If a pup is tested, and he is found to have one of those serious genetic diseases, is there a treatment that can be administered? Or does the owner just have to accept that their dog will have a drastically shortened lifespan?

    @PTNLemay@PTNLemay6 жыл бұрын
    • This will depend on the disease, a vet should determine the proper treatment according to the genetic disease the dog is suffering. Hope this helps
