  • Felix not drooling is actually a trait that the Samoyed has due to breeding! They were bred not to drool because the freezing temperatures in Siberia causes dog’s drool to freeze, which can hurt the dog. So the whole reason why sammies smile, is so that they won’t drool! :)

    @windfishr@windfishr2 жыл бұрын
    • The smiling is so the drool doesn’t stick to their mouths and freeze, as these dogs typically drools a lot

      @MsBabbi@MsBabbi2 жыл бұрын
    • @@MsBabbi well yes and no, samoyeds are bred to not drool as much as other dogs. Excessive drooling is not a breed typical thing for sammies. They salivate of course, but years of breeding has caused them to produce less drool. The smile prevents that little drool from getting out.

      @windfishr@windfishr2 жыл бұрын
    • @@MsBabbi Yeah! If they did drool in Siberia, they would be growing stalactites! It's created that wonderful Sammie Smile.

      @vikkil2586@vikkil2586 Жыл бұрын
    • @@windfishr I'm going to correct you on this breed. It's an ANCIENT breed. The dogs were bred in Siberia to do 3 things: pull sleds, herd reindeer, and to keep children warm at night. Because they were bred to sleep with children, any dog that showed aggression was prevented from breeding, in other words, killed. All aggression has been bred out of them, for thousands of years. A dog that drooled was less likely to survive in Siberia, so they were eliminated. You can argue with the methods, but try to argue with the results. I don't condone it, but at the same time, I've had two of these dogs, and they are wonderful, if you can keep up with the shedding, which is excessive.

  • We had a Samoyed for about 14 years. He was very sweet. Didn't have a mean bone in his body. We had a second home in the snow and he LOVED being there. He would run off every chance he got!!! He loved to run. He would pull our kids on a sled... He was very beautiful.

  • At the beginning of pandemic I got a male samoyed and we are so amused with his antics that we could not contain ourselves to get a female for his companion a couple of years ago. Now we have a pair of mayhem in our home. Never regretted the decision one bit.

  • My grandparents used to breed & show Samoyeds in New Zealand. They were very well trained, didn't bark inside & only really made a lot of noise when herding their sheep! They can be very, very protective of their home & people - you had to make noise/announce yourself when you went to their house because the dogs would get very growly if they thought strangers were approaching. Sweetest dogs 99% of the time, total goofballs - and the reason I didn't know I was allergic to dogs until my mid-20s! They're hypoallergenic! OH! And! Their fur can be spun into yarn, then knitted. The softest socks EVER.

    @CK.Stellata@CK.Stellata Жыл бұрын
    • There is no such thing as hypoallergenic dogs. Its the reaction you get to various degrees. I have zero issues with long haired dogs. Poodles, jack russels give me asthma. Our pittie makes my skin itch once he starts to get dirty.

      @boop8127@boop8127 Жыл бұрын
    • @@boop8127 The allergic reaction to dogs is (said to be) from their dandruff, not their fur. Samoyeds have almost no scent, and no dandruff. They don't shed skin. They do however shed a lot of fur, enormous amounts.

      @fuzzywzhe@fuzzywzhe Жыл бұрын
  • The reason samoyeds barely drool is actually because of their smile! They don't only smile because they are happy, but because it keeps them from drooling :)

He didn't growl, but planted himself firmly between us and stared the man down. His dad saved our son from a stray dog that came racing around the corner snarling , he stayed right in front of of him and didn't chase the other dog but stayed on guard. My most favorite breed!

  • I swear to god, this is the most authentic full of love video about this amazing breed. Well done. Give Felix a big hug from our fluffy family. EDIT: I never take my samoyed on a leash and when ever he runs for other animal or a dog(which he does all the time), I just call him and he stops. It does require of him to use a lot of mental effort but he is a loyal dog.

    @adnanburek4548@adnanburek4548 Жыл бұрын
    • I would let my Samoyeds freely chase squirrels because they couldn't catch them. They were not allowed to chase cats. I wouldn't describe a Samoyed as "loyal" though. Although my dogs loved me, if I took them to a bar or out to dinner, the last thing they wanted attention from, was me and everybody wanted to meet them. After all, they could get attention from me whenever they wanted, and they were fully aware of that.

  • Very similar traits - but I've not yet seen the protectiveness. I have a female that's just about to turn 7, and a male that is 6 (both neutered). I've never seen protectiveness from the male as he is actually generally more timid than the female. I've never had to worry about them reacting with strangers, generally more worried about the person than I am with them. They do bark & get excited when they see someone they like though, even indoors. My most difficult training task with them to stop them from jumping up. They don't mean harm by it, but they just want to get closer to someone. Once everything is calm, it's never an issue. The female is super cuddly. To the point where she demands it a lot, and loves to just lay anywhere with you (even the bed) for a few hours. Our male will cuddle with you for a few minutes, and that's about it - otherwise he'll just lay by your feet & be content. He also likes his own personal space more than the female. As for small animals? Oh man - it's the reason I don't unleash mine either. I've just got it trained into them (after years), that cats are OK. Birds, chipmunks, & squirrels though are a favorite of theirs, and both have gotten out of the yard at one point to chase after them.

  • I had a big male, Kovic (would not have named him that now) and I loved having a Samoyed companion. You are right he thought he was one big lap dog!!! He was rarely off-lead in open spaces for good reason. Walking from the car to the house he was usually good; we had done it a thousand times! One day he paused and started walking away, I called him, and he stopped and turned to look me and had this look on his face and I knew. Bamm he was outta of there! LOL It took me an hour to catch up while he thought it was a big game in the park 3 blocks away. I finally caught him when he was close and I ran away from him and as he buzzed by me I literally lept onto him as he went by! Whew! He just grinned isn't this fun! What can you say at that point? They are a fun breed, but not for off-lead! I miss him. Thanks, brings back nice memories.

  • A lot of dog owners don’t understand this breed because they are so friendly, vocal and not boring. My Sammie is a girl, males and females are slightly different. She is very stubborn, will eat anything, but she’s smart and learns quickly as long it’s something fun it’s Abu nice of treats. 😂 She’s so gentle but very vocal, she’s territorial of her boundary, but can never be a guard dog as she loves everyone and only wants attention. She doesn’t smell, an occasional burp, that doesn’t smell and I have never heard her fart 😂 She’s coming up to five in a month and has calmed down but very minor. She is so not patient and will literally be vocal unitl she gets what she wants. Crazy kid but I love her just they way she is. ❤ xxxxx

At least the tracker helps us find them again. Only one got properly lost once, but that was where the tracker really paid off, as we knew where to look for him.

  • I have Samoyed boy Casper he’s 2 years old He doesn’t bark much and doesn’t howl at all, he loves attention and also needs a lot of family time and play time so we try to give him that as much as possible He doesn’t like to travel in the car that much so we only take him when necessary, he can stay at home for some time and he doesn’t cause any distractions when he’s alone We also have 4 cats and he’s super friendly with them and very gentle and he doesn’t treat them as toys or prey so he never chases them when they run around. He also adopted this understanding when he sees a cat outside he won’t chase it he just might have a general interest as he’s very friendly. He is extremely friendly to both humans and other animals. He never growls or barks at other and always ready to play and say hello He does shed a lot during seasons and throughout the year , it’s a non stop process. He is also very big, he’s 37 kg last time we weight him and very fluffy, he has enormous mane like a lion so his upper body looks even bigger. Despite of such big size he’s a grown baby and always cuddly , sweet and gentle I honestly cannot say anything bad about this breed if I judge by my dog. Our whole family loves him Wanted to add after completing the video: Casper also very picky eater, he doesn’t eat dry dog food no matter what brand, he doesn’t eat even the best wet dog food unless I hand feed him. So we feed him raw diet and he can also eat cooked meats and chew bones, he loves bones so I get him some bones from the butcher. He never touches our things, like sleepers or our clothes, he knows what are his toys and he only plays with those. He is very obedient but sometimes can have a mind of his own so I train him every day on walks for patience and obedience to listen to my commands and follow them. He needs a lot of active play and exercises so we take him off leash often, he needs at least 20 minutes of active play and running a day. So I train him not to run away from me, stay on a spot if I tell him without a leash even if I walk away, not to approach other dogs unless I allow, walk next to me without a leash right by my side. He’s very trainable with treats, he loves treats and I give him a treats when he does the right thing and also a lot of praise. I just remembered one things I find very difficult with him- clipping his nails, it’s impossible to clip his nail, I tried myself and with various groomers, he’s just scared when you clip his nail and acts dramatic. So I bought a pet nail grinder and he lets me use that with some encouragement and lots of reassurance as he’s still scared when I touch his nails and paws. Even things like trimming the hair on his paws is difficult as he’s afraid of it. And we never had an accident or hurt him he just doesn’t like it. The rest of the body I can groom however I like, he’s chill with brushing, trimming and baths. And yes one more thing- many times his behind gets dirty after the toilet, he has a soft stool sometimes but even with normal stool the poop stains his fur when travels on the way down. So we have to wash his bum with the garden hose almost every second time after he poops😁 So only those 2 things I find difficult with him

  • we have had 5 adults and a littler of seven puppies last year, we currently own three Samoyed's. If you ever come to Ireland you are welcome to meet up with them :) they are very good breed, one of there main purposes was to herd rain dear (most of ours don't go for small pray but when they see dear there gone! And the other and reason we chose this breed in the first place was they were also babysitters ! Never met a more attentive and genteel dog with children their like nana form peter pan! Our first bitch would herd my 4 year old sister away from danger keep here safe/ follow her everywhere. Never hurt here even wen Abby was to rough with her and even bounce dogs twice her size ( I mean literally go chest to chest and bounce them) if they were to rough around Abby. No rough housing the baby on her watch. Never aggressive UNLESS you were a threat to a baby. (tis fair enough!) you can also spin there wool and its something crazy like 80% warmer then sheep's wool!

  • Y Sammy sleeps with me, doesn't dig and hardly bite on things when a pup. She also catches toys in air. Smart dogs. Sheds 2x a year have to keep them brushed. And yes mine will take off very quick too. I had her chipped. Good luck.😊

  • I guess not all Samoyed are the same. My dog will eat anything. He’ll eat a brick if I gave it to him. He also bit all my fingers off trying to hand feed him. I’m literally typing this with my elbow. I still wouldn’t trade him in for anything.

  • Hi, how do you travel with your dog in airplane? I need to go to my country for a month but I don’t’ wanna leave my girl with my family, because I’ll miss her and I’m afraid they will not do the right things. But I’m also afraid of taking her to a country too hot for her and also because everyone is saying that it costs a lot! Is it possible to travel even if the flight has connections ?

  • The worst thing about a Samoyed is the thousands of pieces your heart breaks into when they cross the Rainbow Bridge.

  • I recently rehomed a male Red Siberian Husky named Max. Mad Max's muzzle and body are a bit wider than a typical male Husky. So I did a DNA Test. Max is 66.3% Husky, 20% Malamute, 8.4% Samoyed, & 5.3% German Shepherd. So Max is 94.7% Siberian and 5.3% German.
