    • @@luiscruz5556Jokes on you, he just humbled Mesenbrink a little and now it will make Mesenbrink work on the one major flaw in his wrestling. Getting out of the bottom position and never letting someone ride him out like that again. Tougher test would be Keegan O'Toole because O'toole can match his physical strength. Also, I will say one thing, Keegan was really tired at the end of that match with Carr and more tired than I've seen him before but he was up for most of that match too. If Keegan came back to beat the breaks of Carr I wouldn't be surprised. If Mesenbrink came back as fierce on bottom and getting out of ride-outs as he was on top I wouldn't be surprised. He should've looked to do the same to Carr what Carr did to him. Ride-out and make the riding time a non-factor. Now Mesenbrink will have even more motivation to kill Carr next time they meet. From what I've seen, Mesenbrink is an even better Freestyler than Folk.

However, the NCAA stalling rules are strange. Since the takedown is now 3 points, why not add a point for pushouts. It would solve several problems. • @joegreen9629 Well since the NCAA came out and said, that was a takedown in the Braeden Davis and Vinny Kilkeary won that match and Ref’s need to call it as such. I don’t think I’m the one that needs to learn the rules. And if it wasn’t home Refing how do you explain Ayala not getting any stalling calls in his finals match? Breakdown…Carr shot 3 times in the first and got 1 takedown. Mitchell only took 1 shot in the entire 1st period and that was with 1 second left in the 1st , plus he gave up a ton of ridding time. 2nd period Carr took 3 shots and got 1 takedown. Mitchell took 2 shots zero takedowns. Third period Mitchell took 4 shots with 1 takedown and Carr took 3 shots. Carr took more offensive attacks in the match than Mitchell. Someone for sure needs to learn the rules. And someone should for sure go back to high school.

  • Looks like the refs still haven't changed with their shall we say "selective" use of the stall call to keep the golden boys in matches. Normally, I would chalk it up to a "bad call", but I've been around too long and seen it happen too much.

  • That second stalling in the 2nd period was bs. I am glad D.C was announcing. They called him for stalling as he was shooting. So was the one at the beginning of the 3rd. Carr was working to ride. For those saying only one because he stalled, what match were you watching. Carr got two takedowns, and controlled him on top. ( I am a fan of good wrestling and Penn State, but those hating on Carr are off base) Two points Mitch should not have gotten for stalling. Oddly enough that last 30 seconds Carr did not get hit for stalling. That is when he was defending the takedown, but stalling would have been warranted. Great match. The was experience over youth.

Congratulations to Carr though. He wrestled a great tournament.

  • The stall calls were excessive early in match. All the comments about crazy stalling by car is ridiculous. He used the mat and moved. Mesenbrink pushed but car moved really well and never gave him a good opening for a shot. Car rode him really tough and the attempts were legit to not get stall calls. Great match and big mistake by Penn state in not sprinting in end, not realizing he was down. I have seen way more backing up and backing out not get stall calls. Personally, push out rule would take away more of the subjective and really help USA internationally for the transition.

  • Both are very good wrestlers. Mitchell pushes the pace. I believe that that can be both a weakness and strength of his. I think that a wrestler with good offensive capabilities like Carr might pick him apart because of his aggressiveness. Aggressiveness is a wonderful ability and it's tremendously entertaining. But too much aggressiveness just as a lack of aggressiveness can be a weakness. Just look at Jason Nolf. Nolf has been completely neutralized by the defense of Dake and it has resulted in him digging holes for himself at times. I love to watch Mitchell, he's so exciting. But I believe that somebody with David Carr skill level, if they were to not worry about trying to ride him, and wasting a lot of energy to do so, could pick him apart at a takedown game because of Mitchell's haphazard aggressiveness. Although Mitchell is a world champion, at the senior level he's going to run into some people that will make him pay dearly for his haphazard aggressiveness. Just my opinion.

Ironically, if the ref hadn’t given Carr the stalling point, he would have been up by 1 on the scoreboard and Mesenbrink would have gone for the takedown in the end instead of being confused. Great job by Carr. Mesenbrink’s last great challenge.
