    • Referee needs to deal with clubbing and boxing early. You have to be decisive as an official sometimes. There is an earlier match (several years ago0 where an opponent really tried to injure Burroughs with joint torsion. That official called potentially dangerous, then penalties.This is not that level of problem but maybe the official was influenced by the crowd here. Mesenbrink was not able to score much here and so tried to bully Jordan and fight off the mat. I wish Jordan handled the match better at the end but wrestling is an emotional sport and Mesendbrank earned the pop.

    • I was there, and it wasn’t just PSU fans booing. I was surrounded by Iowa and Ohio fans that were booing, but I wasn’t shocked based on what I was seeing. The extra stuff Mitch was doing wasn’t obvious to the crowd. JB’s reaction was impossible to miss. Mitch tried to congratulate him after the match and JB started shoving him. And with 4 matches going on at once, all the fans saw was the extra stuff that JB was doing. Real time in the stands, you may have had a different perspective. The video does give a different view, but also doesn’t show how he started shoving and going off after the match had ended- that’s what set the tone for the nighttime match against Nolf

The fact that our greatest ambassador ever got boo’d all day is a testament to Penn State’s lack of tradition, understanding, wrestling knowledge and respect for the sport. • IDK if anybody posting the comments about how JB was justified have ever wrestled in a tournament situation. There are multiple mats and matches Going at the same time and sometimes it is difficult to tell when a whistle is yours or from another mat. The only thing I saw Mitch do that you do not see in virtually every high lever freestyle match was the head push in the first round. JB is and will always be a legend in USA wrestling, but at this point his ego far outpaces his wrestling skill, he really should consider letting the sun gracefully set on his career.

  • God dammit - One more thing - After JB shoved Mesenbrink, the first thing the ref did was signal for a caution and 1 and then look to the table to see if it was confirmed. THAT IS PATHETIC. The first order of business is to GET IN THERE AND STOP THE FIGHT. You can figure out the points later. What an embarrassing performance from the ref. Just timid and weak. (IMO it’s the ref’s fault that things had to get to the point where JB had to do something about Mesenbrink’s antics.)

  • As a LOOONG TIME PSU fan, i’m extremely dissapointed in the Penn State fans, Wrestlers and some coaches in this tournament. Messenbrink wrestled far beyond the whistle in uncontinuation positions so many times and is not respecting who is probably the greatest American Wrestler of all time. No respect for the wrestler who has been carrying the torch for the sport for over a decade. Why not control the action and score takedowns instead of cheap shots after the whistle? I expected Cael to control things a little more as one of the greats but maybe his hands are tied since hes more involved with collegiate. They should not be letting Bo Nickal on as a coach IMO. Bo has maturing to do and is also in the center of these incidents. he wasnt close to the level wrestler JB was and maybe bitter since he pivoted to mma. The fan at the end walking over to JB after the final loss and screaming “now its over” was possibly the most classless act i’ve ever witnessed in sports fan history. That fan should be banned from attending any future wrestling events. I really hope someone took swift action on that. Penn State 100% lost a fan and respect in my book after this. I will be re-allocating my support for a different Team as its dissapointing.

    • I’m sorry you are jaded and DUSGUSTED….have fun rooting for 2nd place. Bo was a much better NCAA wrestler than JB ever was. JB won 2 titles, and quit another year do to an injury that wasn’t as bad as Carters. Nobody realizes that PENN STATE fan has been primarily sitting in the same seat at Rec Hall for decades. I just lost a friend who had seen every home match since 1971….52 years in the same seat. The dedication of this fan base is unparalleled.

    • @@TimM-wk1zxNo one here is doubting the dedication of Penn State fan base…. The frustration here stems from the lack of respect for JB who has arguably contributed the most to the sport of wrestling in the US over the last decade. Just because someone isn’t from Penn St doesn’t mean you can’t show due respect- especially in a sport where this has long been a tradition. It is a bad look as Penn St is on the forefront in wrestling right now in terms of talent, yet seemingly choosing to play the bad guy in a sport of resect.

Most guys with any wherewithal give this sport up before 30. “J’den Cox” JB did nothing on the world level while he was in College, and Carter is just starting that side of his life. JB is 14 years older than Carter. Penn State fan is going to root for Penn State wrestlers. I’m sure DEEP DOWN Penn State fan doesn’t view Dake or Gilman as one of their own, but the inevitably root for them. I’m sorry you feel s fan base can’t boo who they choose, and I don’t think that kids that want to excel in life and wrestling are going to shy away from going to Penn State….So what is ur point. YOU are complaining on here, but a fan paying money can’t complain.

      @TimM-wk1zx@TimM-wk1zx25 күн бұрын
    • @@TimM-wk1zx Lets refresh here… Jordan Burroughs is 35 years old. He is only two years older than both Taylor and Dake. In the time after turning 30, he has won two World Championships. JB won Olympic Gold at 23yrs old- directly following his senior year in college. Only two other American wrestlers have won Olympic gold at a younger age in the last 2 decades - Synder and Steveson. Regardless of this, using that fact that Jordan is “old” as an argument AGAINST that fact that he has done the most for American wrestling (as a wrestler) recently makes zero sense, no shit! Penn State CAN boo whoever they choose, but that doesn’t mean the rest of the wrestling world needs to remain uncritical of it. In no way is this complaining- wrestling is just a game that we choose to assign value too, a boo wont hurt anyone- just to explain the frustration surrounding this incident through they eyes of the rest of the wrestling world. If your Penn State goggles diminish your ability to see the other side of your own argument, maybe touch grass.

Messenbrink was wrestling past the whistle and almost throwing punches multiple times in the match, and then they want boo Burroughs because he “was disrespectful to our guy.” Idc what you think, if I had been shoved out, headbutted, and a guy refused to get off my leg when the action has stopped, I’d retaliate too. Burroughs knew he was winning, and he made it clear for Messenbrink to stop wrestling dirty, and then the second it happens with their guy they try throwing Burroughs under the bus like he sucks or he’s unsportsmanlike. After running the score up on him, I suspect that's why JB let him initiate his attacks moreso than in period 1. He was daring Messenbrink to do something, do anything about how he was getting worked over. The one shove JB gave him was after Messenbrink wrestled well after the whistle and out of bounds. Some are pretty subtle like the constant pulling of the socks against somebody who wants to have high pace, wrenching the fingers, and he is also known for clinging on the head. It’s OK for one boo the other . in the end, I would’ve done the same, but step back just a minute I like both wrestlers and have all the respect in the world for the wrestler that JB is… but his time is over and he just doesn’t know it yet.,

  • About a min left in the first period Jordan was in on a shot that went out of bounds he got the step out point whistle blown Jordan stopped wrestling and was basically defenseless on his knees and Mitchell pushed him over while his feet were under his hips out of bounds could have caused a knee injury. That was not cool. The refs should not allow that to happen. It’s cheating. When the whistle has blown and your opponent has stopped according to the rules and you continue that’s a violation. Maybe once you let him get away with it but next time is a warning the next one is a pt.

  • For all you FLY BY NIGHT fans, fans that have never wrestled, OR sat through decades of home matches of ur favorite team, your complaining falls on deaf ears. Each person on that mat has their own style and their own personality. They are trying to win. These guys for the most part are the best of the best, and some are very young. JB is almost twice Mitchell’s age, and clearly past his prime. JB hasn’t won anything at the Olympic level for 12 years. Has anyone here not accomplished something they set out to do in 12 years? Fans are allowed to boo/cheer/whistle WHATEVER. And that fan base is super knowledgeable and has their favorites. The whining on here from armchair qb’s is shocking. I personally attended almost every rec hall match since 1979, and this fan base for the most part is fantastic. BTW….In addition to all the wrestling accolades currently, the TEAM CUMULATIVE GPA is 3.85.

    • Sounds like the only thing you set out to do & accomplished for the last 12 years is swill Pepsi & eat popcorn at the rec hall, probably yelling the wrong technique, thinking you actually know wrestling... There is a way to go about cheering for your club, but don't disrespect a legend, have some class

      @jasonkelber2710@jasonkelber271022 күн бұрын
    • Jason, nice to see ur clueless….NOT a soda or Booze drinker, but you should stop the latter. Wrestled for many years, and have been in rec hall since 1979….ppl throw the term legend and hero around pretty easily, and I think do so because they just don’t know. Legends are viewed as notorious also….In regard to overall wrestling, JB couldn’t make an all TOP 100 list in folk-style, and he hasn’t done anything in the Olympics in 12 years. But in interviews JB points a finger at Doping in sports as to why he hadn’t won more….Maybe, he should wrestle till he’s 40 or 50. In regard to fans….Fans can boo or criticize anyone they choose….they paid for the seat, and in regard to ppl at rec hall, most have been there for 25 plus years. Myself since 1979. So ur theory on lack of knowledge or insight is out the window. I know derp down somewhere you think you have an affiliation to JB, but you don’t. You think some 2 day tournament in Rio, is more valuable than 5 years of dedication to a college. I don’t. Point is, root for whoever you choose, but don’t criticize someone else for their fan affiliations.

    • You're massively missing the point. Messenbrink wasn't just "wrestling his style", he was wrestling after the whistle, constantly, in fact four times that I counted before JB actually retaliated. Those are all cheap shots and aren't part of the sport. Messenbrink needs to be coached better and he needs to knock off this childish crap. We don't accept this from our youth club kids or our middle school and highschool kids, and there is no reason NLWC should accept it from Mitchell.

JB unfortunately lost his cool with the hit. I respect JB as a legend of freestyle wrestling but I did lose some with what happened with Mitchell. It was pretty uncalled for and Mitchell was probably just getting lost in the match and couldn’t hear the whistle blow at 9:03, it happens to everyone. JB unfortunately is now gonna have to face the fact that he hit a college sophomore just because he was being a little rougher with him than his other opponents are usually.
