  • And there you saw it, folks. One of the best American blues rock guitarists, ever. Yeah, I know Hendrix was unmatched, Allman was terrific, Bloomfield was great, et al. But Allen Collins was a stripped down, meat and potatoes, precisely delivered, pentatonic blues guitar player; and a lot of these riffs are like Paul Kossoff's, only sped up and supercharged with a little bit of Southern twang tossed in here and there. On the record, he did the dual leads all himself. That's how good he was. Amazing. Sad that he's gone. Sad that most of them on that stage are gone. What a tight, rockin', soulful and bluesy sounding band. With such a full sound. With Ronnie singing his heart out -- just like on the record. The UK music fans obviously had a treat that day. Peace out to all.

  • I was a teenager in the 70's. Teenager's today are so different. I feel sorry for them. Life was so much simpler. We weren't a plastic society, no cell phones, no computers, etc. The best part was that concert tickets were less than 10 dollars and others in the audience were respectful of each other. There was trust amongst us. I wouldn't have missed it for the world.

I used to go to almost every concert that came in concert, and I got to see the original members. I still listen to that amazing music today that I grew up listening to. They left us way to soon, but we still have all of the original music to listen to and cherish today. If I leave here tomorrow, will you still remember me, Yes, we all do remember you, miss you.

  • Freebird at Knebworth 1976 is as good as it gets. There has never been, nor ever will be, a better performance. In particular, nobody will ever come close to Allen Collins' performace on that day. It's disappointing that nobody has come close to emulating that performance in 45 years, but also somehow immensely satisfying to know that there is a benchmark for live musicianship and here it is, recorded for all eternity. How I envy the people that were there. They were part of something that can never be repeated.

    • It is indeed, but they’ve dubbed the crowd noise on it - sounds nothing like the original recording. They’ve basically put loads of applause and cheering right from the start. Ruins it.

      @charleshall9755@charleshall97552 жыл бұрын
    • @@charleshall9755 Any decent record shop or Amazon. Doesn't have very good revues because the record company lifted the crowd noise from another concert and added it in to the soundtrack
