They are so rough with the way they manhandle them. 😡 You guys are so calm and so caring 😍 I just I love watching you. I really appreciate that you are out there doing that for these wonderful creatures. Thank you. Thank you

  • Actually in their homeland, Southdown fleeces command the highest price and were the foundation of England’s wealth. That is why the Chancellor of the Exchequer traditionally sat on the Woolsack. Southdowns are very much a minority breed now but it is a versatile multi purpose wool, making amongst other uses, fine woven cloth. Perhaps the American sheep have changed due to breed selection. We noticed at state fairs that many of our breeds have changed character and conformation.

  • The easiest and most energy efficient and water friendly way to clean a fleece is by "suint fermentation". Soak a dirty fleece in water in a covered container for a week or two (outdoors! 🤭). The salts and lanolin in the fleece create a natural soap. Follow up by a rinse. The dirty water can be used again and again on the next fleeces, requiring less time to soak as the water becomes saturated with natural soap and enzymes. I like that some lanolin is retained in the fleece as compared to scouring with a commercial product in hot water.

All Boy! Hope your wrist is doing alright. Really noticed how shiny your hands were when you were showing the crimp in the wool. Guessing that's from all the lanolin. Wondering if it makes them so slippery ever that it interferes with holding the clipper.
