This mci 9 seated coach was in storage waiting to be sold. Just days before the sale of the bus a giant tree limb fell from the sky and stabbed a hole right through the bus skin. It took out the parcel rack overhead storage shelves. Poor Lance has had a run of bad luck lately.
Hi Scott, i feel so bad for Lance he's lucky to have a friend such as yourself. I've had Covid 2 times, it's nothing like the flu believe me, hopefully things will work out for Mr Lance, Scott stay warm and dry get well.
The best part of this event is that nobody was inside the bus. But it's really great that the buyer wants to continue with the purchase as the damage is "only a flesh wound" - that really says something about the general condition of it.
I am sad to hear that you are/were fighting Covid. I have had it twice and to say it is beyond horrible is an understatement. I am very happy to learn that you are fighting it well and are even in good spirits throughout it. This is a "Hey Lance" moment that I NEVER saw coming! I feel sad for him too.
A reminder that we need to keep up on vaccines to avoid this misery
thankfully no oe was hurt from that tree limb
I am dealing with a virus myself right now...dang it!. I tell you what, the devil is attacking Lance. We should all pray for him. Glad you are getting better Scott.
The roof skin repair is very easy. The way I would repair the hole in the roof skin would be 5 easy steps. The first step is to enlarge and square off the opening. The second is to take a pneumatic flanging tool which looks very similar to a nibbler and create a recessed flange around the squared off opening. Step 3 is to form a curved patch panel using the same thickness aluminum as the skin, it could be curved using a slip roller or by hand on an the area of the roof adjacent to the damage or whatever method the person prefers to use. Step 4 is to bond the patch to the roof using 3m panel bond or Lord Fusor, both products are very good. And the 5th step is to finish the repair by skim coating the repair area with the filler of your choice, followed by block sanding, priming and painting. Welding is not a good idea due to multiple reasons. Properly bonding a patch is stronger than rivets or welding.
You sir sound like ya do excellent work Then interior find fix parts Wat ya figure 30 hour job in total ……….hey lance
@@thisbusandus1452The actual metal repair would only be a few hours of actual work. To clean up opening and flange opening would take around an hour. Fabricating a patch panel and getting it bonded in would probably be another hour and with lord fusor 110b adhesive it would require a 2 hour cure time. Filling, sanding, priming and painting could be completed in two hours. The exterior roof skin could be completely repaired in 6 hours time. The interior repair is hard to estimate with what is shown in the video.
@@ChrisHarding-lk3jj Wouldn't rivets help pull it together while the adhesive cures or would they interfere with the 110lb adhesive?
@@DellAnderson If you used rivets you would have a noticeable repair and just adhesive alone is more than strong enough. Rivets would also create wavy areas in the roof skin.
Just happy to hear know one got hurt in the storm, sad Lance's beautiful bus got damaged though. Safe travels. Ken.
Super bummer on both the tree and Covid.
When large amounts of uncontrolled energy are suddenly released some pretty freaky things can happen. You REALLY didn't need this while you are sick.
That's bad luck. It's a pretty bus. At least no windows got broken or more damage to framework under.
"Hey Lance!"
Yes definitely a Hay Lance moment
Glad to hear that everyone is safe!
Hate to see this Scott, but I'm gonna be picking up a 1980 mci-9 to part out this week if that helps any. Willing to donate what is needed if it can help.
My heart sank when I saw the damage. If there is any upside to this it is that it was not one of his Custom Coach conversions. They would be much harder to fix correctly, especially if it happened inside the front house air conditioner evaporator compartment for example.
Sorry for all the bad luck. Looks like you have lots of widow makers on your property.
not only is that a hey lance moment thats a hey lance holy sh** moment
this poor guys luck
I know this coach in particular was still seated, but for those of us in the conversion world, it's good to know how well it took the hit. A sticks and staples RV would not have fared nearly as well, possibly totaled.
Definitely 👍🏼 stick and staples would be ruined
I'm sorry to see that happening, but I'm glad no one was hurt 🙏
Oh man, just glad it was not one of the other significantly more historical buses 😬 sorry Lance
I saw a shed that the owner said that a limb had fallen on that I proved that it couldn't have fallen from the tree that he said it came from. First, it was the wrong species. Second, we couldn't find a fresh broken place on that tree. Third, the limb went horizontally through the wall between 2 shelves without hitting either of them. With a little bit of looking around, we found the tree that it looked like the limb with a fresh break about 75 feet away. Beyond that point there was a lot of trees with limbs broken out of the tops. Apparently, he had a close call with a tornado that didn't come completely down to the ground.
Branch scores a 10 on it entrance to the bus. Those roof panels are thick. Branch had some speed to punch threw the roof.
bus is now officially a woody
Poor Lance
Amazing that it stayed intact while bursting through the aluminum 😮
That wood is dense, as you can see when they cut it. A branch that size weighs several hundred pounds and the aluminum is thin and light, so that branch went right through.
Awe that's too bad 😔😔
keep the clips coming
Will the "Hey Lance" ever stop?
It’s pretty lame if you ask me, and also kinda insensitive with a tree limb through a bus roof.
@@user-ln7of9gs4s, I was referring to the "Hey Lance" incidents, not the words. It isn't insensitive, it's a little bit of humor to help get through the misfortunes.
Holy cow, this thing must have had some velocity to puncture a hole into the roof.
Wow!
Tis' but a scratch. It should be an easy repair, it just calls for some finesse. I'd bond instead of weld or rivet, but a solution will be decided upon and the new owner will have a pretty sweet seated coach.
It's an old warrior. I till live on.
Man that sucks, but could have been worse. A former employer had one of their buses written off when a 2.5 foot diameter tree branch from a neighbour's tree dropped on it and the chain link fence between the properties, crushed the roof on poor old #26 to the seat frames and blew out every window in the process.
That must have been traveling fast!
Sorry about that buddy!
Last week was a bad one all around.
Good evening.
Pretty crazy.
Instead of a "Hey Lance" moment it was a "ummm.... Lance..... your not going to like or believe this but..."
Well that sucks! I've just gotten over covid too, and, my property is littered with tree fall.....couldnt even drive out due to blocked drive. Last two weeks just doing tree clean up. Oh, and the chainsaws decide to act up just when I need them most
You boys need to get cha some of that there "Flex Seal"
He does this every time.
Sorry about the Covid. And sorry about the bus too.
That sucks😢
If the sale, like the limb falls through, Lance could open a branch office! Narragansett Bay
WOW, JUST SAD
Hey Lance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any chance insurance will cover this?
Right.. file a claim for a POS bus. Solid choice.
Well that suxks. I worry about any dead trees when I park at a campground.
Hey Lance!
Wow
Make it a convertible bus!
Get better Scott
That's the problem with trees.
Not your fault, but this is a reason why you shouldn’t park under trees. Or let huge trees grow within falling distance of your house. Hope you guys get this fixed. This definitely sucks.
The only problem I can see with that plan, what do you do when about 80% of his property is trees.
A twister above the ground can break off and sling a branch like that.
@@craigroberson8757 gotta go Paul Bunyan on the spots you want to park vehicles.
In a storm the only safe place is an underground bunker. I have found pine branches in my yard from trees that are at least a quarter mile away. About 30 years ago, my wife woke me up asking me what the noise was that woke her up. It sounded very much like a couple of freight trains passing each other with a formation of fighter planes for good measure. We were just about to get out of our trailer when I realized that it had already passed us. We had big trees knocked down just a short distance from us but the smaller trees were undamaged. It went directly over our neighbors with no damage to their home and touched down in the next town. It took some roofs off but no casualties.
Isn't that where the roof vent go?
It is now!
Nah, that’s where the skylights go, everyone knows that, lol 😂
Ya What a shame on that extradentary bus but not hard to fix and still look good.
Oh man that sux.
Mother nature just letting you know what she can do when she wakes up
Wheres tyler?
He went back to Indiana several months ago.
@@RVsAndCoaches It's nobody's business.
How much is he selling it for?
15k
Poor lance unlucky dog more like it yet another ….hey lance
🙂
Well if that isn't the "Hey Lance" to beat all "Hey Lances", I don't know what is. Hopefully you guys are on the mend from having Covid, to say it's a bitch is an understatement, reminds me a bit of Dengue Fever.
I hope that's not asbestos insulation 🙏
fiberglass
Typical of those that prey. Never real bright....
Another hey lance phone call
Pain in the ass. I had a car get hit like this.
I'm sorry for Lance. Scott, you have the FLU get some vitamins.
Hm...Dr 'phoney10'? Seems legit 😏
COVID is nothing like the flu.
That is why you buy Commercial Insurance for the Garage and Property !!
I have garage keepers insurance and liability commercial insurance.
@@BusGreaseMonkeyGreat as a retired garage owner I know how important the Ins.can be Thanks
you sound like you have a cold// take Vitamin C 1000 mg//and stay in the heat 78 deg or 80deg 4 days
You sound short bus special.
I mean you can't eliminate all hazards but a clear zone around parking areas as wide as the trees are tall looks to be in order. Fire wood time!
That's a hell of a lot of work you're talking about.
yep. heating fuel for years!
Man, you sound like you’d have to get better to die. Stay warm.😊 Steve
