Most dangerous bus failure I’ve ever seen! This should have been deadly!

When the steering wheel comes off while you are driving a 60,000lb prevost bus you very likely would end up in a serious accident. On the highway this failure probably would have been a horrific accident.
Those steering columns are very common. I seen them used from anywhere from buses to garbage trucks to semi trucks. I would just have the whole assembly replaced. I wouldn’t trust that anymore.
OMG, that’s really a „Hey Lance“ moment 😂 I love his humor and how calm he took it!
I’ve seen that same thing happen before driving a Tri axle Mack dump fully loaded my buddy turned the wheel to turn left in a busy intersection and sna went the steering shaft . The guy behind him was beeping and yelling him to move. He got outhanded him the wheel and said here you move it The funniest thing I’ve ever seen was the look on that guys face when he held out the steering wheel I laughed my ass of I was 2 cars behind him. And checked my wheel and to make sure mine wasn’t going to break
Would like to see a closeup in the next video of what failed. Look forward to seeing this bus fixed, the interior looks great. Had it really sat all this time? I didn't hear when it was last used. 20 year old tires look toast. Hopefully without the rear airbags, it didn't take much damage while being towed. I'm sure that rear axle was overloaded.
When using a chain to tow you should place a tarp or any cover over chain to aborb shock if chain should break.
Pipe, bolt the ends and you also got reverse
As if the steering wheel falling off wasn't bad enough, that front tire is just as scary. Oil running out of the front hubs too. Not to mention the air leaks. Wow.
He bought this bus years ago as a future project. It’s a real “fixer upper” project for sure.
Nice to have an angel, or two hanging around you Lance.. Because that's pretty close to a miracle right there..IMHO.. That could've been very bad, on the road at speed, that's for sure. Pretty crazy shit man.. btw.. HAPPY NEW YEAR, to all, ✌️❤️😁
Lance shit ice cubes, as cool as he is 😂🎉
Amazing engine sound on the 2 strokes. Almost like the Napier Deltic 2 stroke train engine.
The lack thereof was nuts.
There was something rattling in the wheel, I wonder if that was the remains of the nut since at one point there must have been a nut involved to actually pull it together.
WOW! that has to be up there with the best, or worst "Hey Lance" moment that I've seen. Nice looking bus though.
Wow !!!!! Soo glad this didn’t happen while lance was actually on the Highway !!! 😮
"WTF is that???" I feel that in my soul.
the "motorcoach" 5 link suspension in australia is probably the biggest danger as blot fall out and suspension links rust out and crack
Just wow. Safe travels to you all. Ken.
This proves that New Holland is The Little Tractor that Could, definitely earned it's keep on that pull.
The little Fiat powertrain engines are incredible as are the bigger ones, personally I like the six's best.
Whoa, Lance! I wonder if trying to turn with no power steering was the straw that broke the camel's back. Someone mentioned that was a new steering wheel. Where was it installed?
When things go wrong, remember, it can always get worse . . .
Lance, the Lord loves you. I'm sorry for your situation. Best of luck with everything
Fortunately Lance can crack a joke about it, with that $400 nut 😅 Talking about neglect on the part of whoever installed that new steering column 🤦♂
My dads first car was a 1950s Ford Anglia E494A and was wrecked when the steering failed and it rolled over. I was only about 4 at the time so I don't know what broke. I remember us all sitting at the side of the road, watching the fuel and oil leaking out!
Damn that's bad! So I guess a "hey Lance" moment is when a very important large round part that turns will not fit or attach as is; to the great dismay and/or horror of those expecting it to work.
I was doing a pre-work test drive on a 31 Model A a few years ago and had the wheel come off in my hand at 50mph, scary stuff!
Not only the steering wheel falling off, but also the airlines blown during transport.. Imagine driving down the road when your airlines blow, so no breaks, no suspension and when you try to roll to a stop at the side of the road you end up with the steering wheel in your lap..
My friend drove a '72 Pinto whose gear shift broke off, so he used a pair of Vise-Grips to shift. That was weird enough. Later, while driving across country, both rear leaf springs snapped off due to rust. He stopped, put the pieces in the trunk, and kept driving.
Never would expect that!
That IS scary, thank God you weren't traveling in it. Beautiful coach.
I should have been wearing my 'Hey Lance' shirt for this. 😆
I had that happen when taking a car for inspection once. Couldn’t believe it! I may or may not have steered it away from the failed inspection with a pair of vice grips!
WOW! WOW! My knees R shaking fir Lance's sake and Im 1000 miles from you guys uo here on the caduan border. Si happy he made it to your place.
Vise grip steering wheel should do it
You have to be near maximum buspacity.
Man that made the hair on my neck stand up. Lance has an angel watching after him,.
Food for thought , maybe an extension of some sort could be temporarily added to the box blade that just in case that chain comes apart it could catch the ext and shorten the chain where it could not reach the cab . Thats a heavy bus
Dang! Talk about a WTF moment!😬 Glad you were in Turtle mode and not highway bound. Be safe everyone ✨🎵✨😎👍
Steering wheel looked like some one was going to take it ,didn’t finish though . …. U are correct a damn unguided missile.
That’s crazy how that happened.. definitely lucky…
After watching tractor pull the bus have you given any thoughts to buying a surplus airplane tow tug, I worked for a county government we had one from the u.s.navy with a slant- six automatic but it had a 6.17 rear it could pull trucks up hills and push also. We fabricated a square tube frame and a sheet cab with a tractor heater, like I said worked with any thing up to 80,000 lbs
"Oh yeah, the steering wheel comes off, so be careful with that."
This is the first time I’ve seen him work on an autonomous private coach
Hey Lance, the steering wheel came off!
Be Positive Lance !! Never Quit !! Prayers Are On Their Way !!! VIVAT JESUS !!!👍🙏❤️😊 !!
So lucky to have this happen AG the end of the highway whilst being pulled into you driveway, Scott? What ever happened to ‘spannering up’ and torquing/marking critical bolts. Unbelievable!!
WOW!!! That would have made national news in the most tragic of ways. Thank God it didn’t
When pulling a heavy load the chain should be above the bar rather than below. If the tractor loses traction you then raise the lift bars slightly which in turn creates better grip.
If you have loose soil it could help, but if you have strong grip that could cause the tractor to quickly flip over backwards with severe consequences.
Then it pulls the front end up ,no front wheel drive and he would then be steering with the brakes, and also not as much control, the tractor would try to pivot on the back wheels ,I think he has weight on the loader ,only thing is he needs to get that tractor out of low low
Always low hitch for tractor's.
More traction yes, but it's also a good way to get a tractor to flip over backwards or lose steering control.
You know what part of a vehicle always breaks first..? THE NUT BEHIND THE WHEEL
When doing tows like this, you also need to put some weight in the bucket or get a SSQA ballast so you can better maintain steering control and use the 4wd better.
Hey Scott, been a fan for a few years. I don't remember you ever saying what the steepest grade is on Dynamometer hill? Love the content.
25%
@@BusGreaseMonkey 25% . . That's not a hill, that's a CLIFF ! Would explain why some of the patients struggle a bit.
It’s equivalent to climbing a 7 story building but doesn’t look that tall in videos.
Wow, I thought my friends driveway was steep at 17% up here in NH. Keep on rockin. ✌
@@BusGreaseMonkeyThe flattened perspective is why WW1 films of troops going ‘over the top’ look wrong. Film directors actually get cast/extras to line up down slope for prone firing in battle scenes. I and other Territorial Force soldiers spent a month or so as extras for a British TV series called Soldier, Soldier; back in the early 1990s.
Well, if anyone in the whole world doesn't know what means "Hey Lance!" - there has to be some serious gaps in knowledge!
Ive seen a few of those wheels pop off on Kalmar Terminal Tractors I was refurbishing, but due to nut somehow getting stripped, not missing...
Another chance Lance. Man oh man that was crazy.
Thats weird. Doesn't the shaft have a keyway to center the wheel? Is it missing the toothed collar to go over the grooved shaft, like cars have? Hard to tell what happened there.
Like a pilot watching the left engine fall off, in flight. Oh, S--t!
You talk about a freak out moment if had been on the road and the wheel come off your left with nothing to do but jump on the breaks but that's all. That was some good luck there Lance.
Was that a hey lance.. moment
the ultimate "hey Lance" moment.
Watching some of these hot messes just gives me a better feeling about my own hot mess of a vintage coach✌️
Did the bolt holding it on break, or just come loose? I didn’t understand what the fastening method was. Had the bus been sitting? Maybe someone had eyed up that steering wheel and was in the midst of stealing it and got interrupted.
Here.... you drive awhile....😳
I guess that's something to put in your PM checklist , steering wheel falling off! who would have thought
Dang, I see no less then 6 buses stacked on the property!
HOLY CRAP!!!! HOW does somebody get away with installing a Steering Wheel WITHOUT installing the nut! My friend DID have a similar thing happen on his '64 Rambler, but that took almost 30 years to work loose!
Incredible ! Talking about a lucky day, did Lance rushed out to buy a lottery ticket ?
The steering locked up on a GM 4905 with passengers on board! Fortunately the experienced driver got it stopped and no one was injured.
Can you answer why Lance is closing the bus service?
Stuff like that makes me glad I don't run a heavy wrecker anymore LMAO
Holy Smokes!! Indeed, was lucky it came off there for sure! Reminded Me of one of My co-workers back in the 70's when His steering wheel came off on the way to work, so He drove it the rest of the way using vise grips clamped to the shaft to steer.
Wow! That is crazy luck….🍀
keep the clips coming
new fear unlocked...
Man Lance has an exciting life. lucky man considering
Mini-truckers would be jealous. That bus can lay frame!
Bald Michelin tyres are better than other bald tyres
Next project!! an expanded parking area at the driveway entrance where tow trucks and flat beds can safely pull off the road to unload vs. the middle of a narrow curved road.
There is 500-1000’ feet of straight road on the sides of our driveway and 35mph speed limit
Yes, very scary
THAT was providential, NOT luck, like Lance said, thank God
Guardian angels working overtime..in full group.
You are IN the crumple zone when driving one of those, even for low speed frontal accidents, yikes.
Good Lord was looking after him.
divine intervention
It's called a guardian angel. somebody has one.
Good Golly~What do U Do for an Encore!!? 🤯
If you don't do a T shirt with Lance holding his steering wheel up with a surprised look on his face, I would like your blessing to see if I could talk him into a deal with me.😊
I think I’ve seen it all now. 😳
Really lord Jesus must have been saving the day with this one. I do see a leaky wheel hub already but something must be so broke with the suspension that it just will not air up. Will be interesting to see what else will be found that is wrong with it.
4:00 saw that coming
Bust out the Mad Max Fury road pipe wrench steering! lol
Sad to hear about Lance shutting down the Lucky Dog business
Can someone explain? All of Lucky Dogs web presence is still up and running.
Too bad busses were never made for off-highway hill climbing.
looks like you'll need multiple shops and dozens of "good employees" soon(now). that's the hardest part
That is not my dream. That would be a nightmare. “Mexican fisherman story” if you don’t know it google it.
we call that an oh s##t moment.
stacked full of buses
WOW!!!
Is. The. Tractor. 2stroke. It. Always. Seems. To. Be. Reving. Very. Fast
I feel for Lance that his steering wheel fell off, but Jesus took the wheel, other wise we may have heard or seen the big bus wreck on evening news. Glad he's ok. Thanks for sharing Scott.
A million dollar Prevost and the steering wheel comes off? WTF! Glad I sold my MCI. And how could the engine overheat? There are sensors that will kill the engine when it even thinks about overheating. Prevost? WTF!
They're as an ol boy over towards Knoxville, Tim Gentry , Gentry and sons trucking , I bet he would haul a bus or two if you needed him to, he's a you tuber 2 . He's got a couple of RGN's And just bought a older wrecker and shined it up a little. He's the one that hauled Elvis airplane for Jimmy's world
I follow Tim Gentry, I wouldn't use his tow truck service until he really knows what he's doing. I don't mean that to be bad, but he's not trained to operate a big tow rig safely yet. It's not a job you just step into.
No thanks. Headset on making videos, looking ridiculous. I just wish he would act real and be normal.
God told me to tell you that was very good at 1/2 mile an hour.
That was a hay Lance moment but it was him who should have said it lol
Where's the steering wheel? . . It come off in m' 'and Guv 😞
YIKES!
WOW
