Today I finish stripping the gas tank, suspension and steering from the frame, play with fire, and
finally paint the frame gloss black using a POR15 alternative sold at NAPA called Rust Proof M/D.

  • F250 guy here! Im about to embark on cleaning and protecting at least the rear frame under bed soon. This was very helpful!

  • Bit of a random thought, but have you ever considered getting a frame dipped and galvanized? Its common to do here in the UK and will last forever practically.

    @VeyronBD@VeyronBD9 ай бұрын
    • Sandblasting and powdercoating is more common here, but I don't know of anyone near my area doing galvanizing.

  • I coated my frame with eastwoods rust encapsulator. I thought mine was bad because it had light surface rust. We don’t get rust here in Georgia. I wanted it to looks really clean and I think it’s a good product.

  • It was interesting to see the dismantling of the front end of your project Toyota ute it is similar to my Hilux and new rear springs well a previous owner put new springs in my Hilux because it is GVM is 2700 kilograms and the tare weight is 1200 kilograms my can carry up to 1500 kilograms so it gives a crash ride but l am used to the ride because l was a courier and owned three utes before this one

    @lesklower7281@lesklower72813 ай бұрын
    • I know the feeling. My lifted 1985 has very stiff leaf springs. I keep some extra weight in the bed to help soften the ride.

    • @@6thGearGarage ln N.S.W Australia we have yearly registration inspections and my Hilux has GVM of 2700 kilograms and a tare weight of 1200 kilograms and it has to be able to carry 1500 kilograms so if l even remove one leaf it may fail because the inspector takes it for a drive also with the inspections no emission test so l have to put up with the crash ride it doesn't worry me because l had a few utes with crash rides

  • This is fantastic, exactly the kind of stuff I want to see. How does this compare to sandblasting to bare metal and powder coating? A lot less expensive I guess, but how does it compare in terms of durability, pretty good? Thanks for sharing!! Edit, I see after I paused to comment that you addressed durability. Looks pretty nice. Thanks again for sharing all this toyota truck 22RE stuff, I simply cant get enough of it from you, love your videos. Thanks.

  • I had my cj7 jeep dipped in galv $.500 .00 glastonbury. Only place in ct. About 8-10 years ago.my fav 4x4 was 1979 totota. First year for 4x4 so dealers sold them fully loaded a.c. tilt amfm the little 20 r had to turn off ac when driving uphill on highway.ha ha.put chrome. Roll bar big lights. Factory graffics etc.beauty.frame had weak leaf spring perches and shock mounts welds would crack.

    • I use ziplock bags and label everything, but sometimes if I'm in a hurry I'll set bolts down in the garage and once that happens a few times in one day I end up with mystery bolts :) Then I have to go back and watch these videos for help!

  • I'm curious, did you also coat the inside of the frame with anything or is it still bare? My fear would be that the exposed rust in the frame would just start eating from the inside out if the inside was left untouched.

    @chasestafford4592@chasestafford45922 ай бұрын
    • Yes I did with fluid film, but wanted to wait until I was done notching/welding the frame so that the welds wouldn't be contaminated. kzhead.info/sun/Zd2qdJGfeIiqhoE/bejne.html Around 5:30 in this video I sprayed the inside with Fluid Film.

    @martymcfly3986@martymcfly39869 ай бұрын
    • This is surface rust, which is perfect for a rust inhibitor. A crusty/holy frame like most of the other toyotas on the channel aren't worth painting IMO, because the rust will just continue under the paint over time. For something bad, I'd just fluid film annually.
