ABOUT ME
I’m 33 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city s a Police Officer and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 1200 breeding ewes.
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on KZhead and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Since starting The Sheep Game I have met Lizzy and had two incredible boys Jock and Angus. You will see them all on this channel!

Cammy, I was so sorry to hear that some “fool” called the SSPCA about your farming methods. Likely had no understanding of sheep farming methods, especially in Scotland with the cold and rain. Probably the closest they’ve gotten to a lamb, is when it’s cooked and placed on their plate. Keep up the great work!!

Not everyone is aware of who owns livestock in a field and can contact the owner directly. 99.99999% of people wouldn't know the rain coats are meant to break off as the lamb grows, so concern that a lamb is possibly tangled in one is valid to those people. We stepped in once, a lamb had fallen into a narrow drainage ditch, could not get out and Mum was going mental! We lifted it out, gave it a rub down under Mum’s close inspection, and off we all went to carry on with our days.

I stopped one day to report a sheep upside down in a field. The people in the nearest house knew the farmer and gave him a call. Another time I went to a door to report a herd of goats in the road. Please if you see animals you think are suffering or are in danger don’t ignore it for fear of looking foolish.
@@lesleydickson7746 No farmer I know would grudge you flipping a sheep back over if she's on her back, flip over and hold her on her bum for a few minutes to let everything re adjust then let her go slowly 💪🤟
We were out on a walk in the Yorkshire dales and came across a ewe thoroughly tangled up in a bramble bush. Took us ages to cut her out and detangle her from the brambles. Being a half wild swaledale she wasn’t amused by us handling her

@@awill9039 Why does it matter who said it first??? You should just feel good that you remembered his birthday and that you wished him well. You realize this person is a member so I’m sure he’s more keen on replying back to them before anyone. I mean he doesn’t have much time to reply in the first place but members support the channel financially they definitely should come first if Cammy has time to respond. Try not to get so jealous, or to feel the need to show you did it first it’s very unbecoming.

Groups of ewes are put to the tup(ram) at different times in order to spread out the lambing so they don't all come at once.

Thoroughly enjoyed watching this. I was a land-girl on a sheep farm here in Aotearoa/ New Zealand almost 50 years ago so it brought back lots of memories. l loved being on the farm it was exhausting but satisfying work with some hilarious and some sad moments - especially for a clueless townie. 😁 lnterested to see you wet foster the ewe that had the dead preemies. Do you do anything in particular to help the bonding, apart from pen them together? The Cocky on the farm l was on, would skin the dead lamb, cut slits in the leg skin and, a bit like putting on a coat, put the pelt on the lamb that needed fostering and pen them together. That way the mum would smell her own lamb and accept the foster. When we came by to let them out of the pen he'd take the pelt off cos, they'd be bonded by then. Not sure how common a method it was but, it had a pretty good success rate. 😊

@@lynnegee6814 yeah there would be benefits of farming both ways but I just feel sorry for the sheep that don’t get to pick at the fresh sweet grass and feel the sun on their backs, and how beautiful they all look against the green grass and blue skys with their little lambs , there’s nothing better!
I hate it when someone sticks their nose in where it don't belong. Sheep have been having babies in the fields for years. It's not your fault the weather was bad at the start.

the farm we rent in Portugal, has several sheds made out of pallets with slabs of corrugated iron on top. The shed we keep our fire wood in, also made out of pallets.

Safe bet that the SSPCA caller happily lets their dog run among the sheep and lambs, justifying it because 'it is cruel to keep it on a lead when it is out in the countryside for its playtime and it always comes when called and would not hurt a fly'
