    • It's an unfortunate side effect of our civil rights. You are allowed to face your accuser on the stand. Most prosecutors don't want to put a traumatized child on the stand. It can be really hard to get a conviction without a victim's testimony. So rather than risk them being found "not guilty" by a jury, most prosecutors would rather cut a deal, so at least the chomo is on a list.

      @hgib3@hgib32 ай бұрын

    • Any crimes that actually warrant life in prison should simply be Capital Punishment but the Prison Profit Industry has convinced the general public that Prison is for rehabilitation and not justice therefor lawyers are even allowed to argue against cap Punishment and citizens think it's taboo to execute sometimes. But people should consider this, execution shows swift justice is deal and appeases victims family more and shows society that we don't tolerate evil which has positive social impact. On top of this, For prisoners who do get out after such crimes, they usually re-offend and the long time they spent in Prison actually ceases from being punishment after maybe 1-2 years. They simply adjust to prison and know they are not getting out and it is what it is. So all locking them up did was keep them away from harming more folks outside but it's not a punishment anymore. Then consider that it cost tax dollars to keep them housed and fed, your tax dollars, many prisons are for profit so they want more housed prisoners and the fact that they get free healthcare, drug culture, gang culture, and relationships between Correction officers and Prisoners form both sexual and beneficial (criminally) AND it's a myth that all pedo's and r*pist just get killed in prison, some do, most don't. So when you hear people get angry and say "you're going to rot in prison" Are they? I mean in reality? are they? No. They're restricted but they're just fine. People should think about all I said here when considering the idea of long term prison sentencing. In my view in light of REALITY prison should be for short term minor crimes and even those criminals if they stack up many many minor crimes should also be executed. Problem solved. Minor crimes lead to bigger crimes and even for those who don't, they clearly do not care to live in peace with the general public and arresting with the concept of rehab does not work so, just get rid of them. Safer country, justice served.

    • If I did something like these kids I could not live with myself I may disagree with people have people that don't like me at all but I'm not gonna go for revenge by taking lives so messed up. And whats sad is these kids were just starting life and made the worst decisions now they will never know raising a family getting real love from someone who actually cares they instead will be behind bars only dates they will get will be in the dark and it won't be romantic at all my dad taught us you handle problems with fists not a gun or knife using any of these shows you cant stand your ground especially when the other person is unarmed or has no idea they are being targeted. I feel sorry they ruined their lives but no remorse when they take lives we all learned in either school church or both that taking lives is wrong no matter the beef id rather quash beef and admit when I was wrong and try to move past it. Its tragic such young people lose their lives or end up in prison for life because they couldn't stop and think rationally. What's even worse is when they show 0 sorrow for taking someone's family away.

If he was a good person, he wouldn't have robbed and murdered a man. "You can't go around killing people" is the perfect thing to say. If only more people understood how basic the justice system is like this man did. Major respect for him.

    • Hello ! May Allah protect and guide you to his light and happiness in this life and the hereafter, God bless, Ameen. Excuse me for giving a little presentation of Islam, because it is very misunderstood nowadays, especially on those « Antichrist's » times, where media and politics are mixed to distort history and truth. And terrorists (puppets of the Antichrist) who misinterpret verses, out of ignorance and political motivations, and take them out of historical context (just like radical atheists do by the way) don't help either. Thank you very much for your time. First of all, if you have any questions regarding Islam and yourself, just open the Quran randomly, and you will find the answer in front of you, like a miracle and a sign from God. Islam is an arabic word that means the Surrender to the One and Only God, our Creator, Protector, Provider, who gives us life and all that we have, we are safe and sound by his will and grace, we are His and to Him we return, and we have to thank him in this trial life by submitting to him by our free will, or later in the Day of judgment when it's too late to save our own skin. Islam was the original Religion descended to earth from heaven with Adam and Eve (peace and blessing be upon them) in the beginning of humanity. and was passed to people with the succession of the 124 000 prophets and 315 messengers of God to all nations and civilizations since, passing by Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ismaël, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David, Solomon and Jesus (Peace and blessing be upon them) during the history of mankind, the last replaces and completes the previous, until the succession of the last messenger of God fourteen centuries ago, Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) to complete the noble morals of all mankind, to bring humans and jinns out of darkness into light, and to purify people's religion and belief from corruption and polytheism, and return it to purity and true monotheism, like it was in the times of the prophets (Peace and blessing be upon them). Many Religions that we know nowadays, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but their original teachings, history and scriptures have been corrupted over time with falsification and polytheism, or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays, which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah (God in Aramaic, the original language of Jesus and the Gospel), and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, just like Jesus and Moses and others are His servants and messengers. Never a messenger of God said he was God or literally son of God, it was the people after him who changed the words of God and corrupted the Religion. God is unique and absolute, He does not need to have a family and sons or to associate anyone else with His kingdom, He can simply create whatever He wants, everything belongs to Him, and to Him everything will return. Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe. The Knower of the hidden and the manifest. He is exalted, far above what they associate. (91-92 / Translated by ITANI). Allah means the one and only God, the God of all prophets and creatures, the creator of the universe and mankind, and the Master of the Day of judgment, where our destiny, Hell or Paradise, is decided based on our faith and deeds in this trial life, and above all, Allah's mercy. Allah said in Surah Al-Ikhlas : In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful. Say, “He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him.” (1-4 / Translated by ITANI). Allah said in Surah An-Nisa : O FOLLOWERS of the Gospel! Do not overstep the bounds [of truth] in your religious beliefs, and do not say of God anything but the truth. The Christ Jesus, son of Mary, was but God's Apostle - [the fulfilment of] His promise which He had conveyed unto Mary - and a soul created by Him. Believe, then, in God and His apostles, and do not say, "[God is] a trinity". Desist [from this assertion] for your own good. God is but One God; utterly remote is He, in His glory, from having a son: unto Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth; and none is as worthy of trust as God. Never did the Christ feel too proud to be God's servant, nor do the angels who are near unto Him. And those who feel too proud to serve Him and glory in their arrogance [should know that on Judgment Day] He will gather them all unto Himself: (171-172 / Translated by Muhammad Asad). Allah the Most Merciful said in Surah Ali-Imran : Behold, the only [true] religion in the sight of God is [man's] self-surrender unto Him; and those who were vouchsafed revelation aforetime took, out of mutual jealousy, to divergent views [on this point] only after knowledge [thereof] had come unto them. But as for him who denies the truth of God's messages - behold, God is swift in reckoning! Thus, [O Prophet,] if they argue with thee, say, "I have surrendered my whole being unto God, and [so have] all who follow me!" - and ask those who have been vouchsafed revelation aforetime, as well as all unlettered people, "Have you [too] surrendered yourselves unto Him?" And if they surrender themselves unto Him, they are on the right path; but if they turn away - behold, thy duty is no more than to deliver the message: for God sees all that is in [the hearts of] His creatures. Verily, as for those who deny the truth of God's messages, and slay the prophets against all right, and slay people who enjoin equity - announce unto them a grievous chastisement. It is they whose works shall come to nought both in this world and in the life to come; and they shall have none to succour them. (19-22 / Translated by Muhammad Asad).. God said : Say, “We believe in Allah, and in what was revealed to us, and in what was revealed to Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs, and in what was given to Moses and Jesus, and in what was given to the prophets from their Lord. We do not differentiate between any of them. And to Him, we surrender.” (2:136 / Translated by Community) Salam (Peace) ---------------------

After priming us for “shocking behavior in court” concerning the girl who lured a friend into the woods and slit her throat, we learned that she pledged guilty to a lesser offense to avoid life imprisonment without possibility of parole. What is so shocking about any of these things?

  • Im a medical provider with additional Psychology degrees... My family started rewatching the Walking Dead. The is an episode where young Karl is intrigued by a walker trapped in the mud, and as a way to flex his superiority and boyish intrigue he throws rocks at it. When he sees that the walker has no reaction he feels he will not have any reprocussions for hurting it. So he moves closer and closer, aiming a pistol, but the walker gets lose and knocks Karl over. Karl escapes and runs away. He returns to the farm house where the group is deciding the fate of a teen that came crossed their group but belonged to another group of violent people. Karl's father, Rick, is pointing a gun at the blind folded teen as the group had decided to end his life versus risking him telling the others where they were. But he hesitated. Karl appears, again, intrigued, and yells "shoot him dad", as if he will be rewarded or encouraged to belong. This is a great representation of how impressionable young minds are and how they look to others for what is right and socially acceptable. If their environment, their culture, their family (and friends) exhibit behaviors that are not visibly punished, the child does not understand the full extent of their actions. Nor do they learn right from wrong. Had the group praised Karl for saying "shoot him", he may have a perception in his life that killing is right and/or fair. The entire episode was about distinguishing this specific reasoning. That taking the life of somebody should NEVER be an easy action. Later, in the same episode, Karl has a learning lesson and they show him realizing that his actions have consequences when the same walker takes the life of somebody in his group. If he hadn't tried to mess around and went for help, they could have removed the walker and prevented their friend from being killed. We say there is something "evil" or that some people are born a certain way or have "mental illness". But you have to closely examine nature versus nurture, psychopath vs sociopath...

I found this out through a friend of my daughter's. He had a family member serving time in jail. He lived a double life. She suffered domestic violence at his hands. She was going to, we believe, move on with her life without him as she had been accepted into the University of Washington. We believe he knew he was going to lose his "sugar mama". He killed her, and three others, before the cops unloaded their weapons into him as he had been shot and was ready to shoot the cops. A friend started a petition to try and get the 8 cops fired. She claimed he had no guns (he had two guns and we found a samari sword on the dining room table when we were allowed to go into the apartment and collect her things). Only 14 people signed the petition. He knew he would either go to jail for life or suffer the death penalty, so he chose the coward's way out.

    • A person's mind is at their lowest between 1 and 20, and 60 to death. A person is only in their best mind from 20 to 60. Outside of this interval, the mind is dominated by ignorance and emotion. That's why you can't vote nor sign contracts until you're 18, and also your parents and grandparents need to be protected from phone scams.

    • The only thing they did that was crazier than the crime they committed, was the lack of reaction when they got sentenced!!! Meaning, somehow, they were totally unremorseful for their crimes! I didn't know this was going to be a comedy narration.

    • 💯 they're only truly sorry they got caught. and you know their public defenders tell them to try to show some remorse for a lighter sentence, and that's the best they can do. pathetic.

      @justzev@justzevАй бұрын
    • Don’t mistake this for excusing any of their actions. But empathy and remorse are learned. From a really young age. Where’s the accountability for the people raising these dangerous kids- their behaviours aren’t just a surprise. Other than maybe a head trauma no kid is born that way they’re created. I think the sentencing is fitting but where’s the rest for the people who ignored the warning signs?

  • Disgusting hearing judges talk so lightly about life sentences, bet they never spent time in prison or even the military at that

    • Are you out of your mind? Look at the nature of the crimes committed. You want the judge to show sympathy?

    • It's possible the mom isn't surprised because she has watched the kid go from bad to worse despite best efforts and even potentially giving trying. I worked with troubled teens in a high school after school program. Last chance to graduate. Had everything from broken homes, aggressive emotional control problems to straight up gang members with some jail time. What sucked was you could see so much potential in each and every one of them. But you could also see a lot of the parents completely broken and having no hope left.
