Sheep Farming - Quick, Easy & Simple Way To Feed Sheep

2020 ж. 11 Жел.

This is how we feed our sheep. Not much technology except a used skidsteer. This is just one Britespan barn. We have two more the same size plus an old dairy barn and feed approximately 500 sheep/day at the moment prelambing. Morning chores take about 1 hour and evening chores 45 minutes.

  • Nice to see such a beautiful setup of healthy sheeps, which breed of sheep is this exactly ? How many kids does it give an average or every birth ? What are the baby birth weight average ? How much weight does this sheeps gain feom birth to 6 months of age ?

    @moderngoatfarming@moderngoatfarming2 жыл бұрын
    • The ones with the black heads are Suffolk sheep. They average 1.8 lambs officially but it's not uncommon for us to average 2.0. They weigh about 8-10 pounds on average at birth although singles at 15 pounds are possible. Suffolks average a pound/day for the first few months with average weights of 100 pounds at 100 days. After that, growth slows somewhat. At 6 months a ewe lamb would be around 140 pounds and a ram lamb 160+ pounds

    @JamesBrown-ze6lh@JamesBrown-ze6lh11 ай бұрын
    • Difficult to say because all wool is used for different purposes depending on qualities. Softer fleeces are used for finer items whereas coarser wool would be used for carpets or jackets. That way you could set the bale in place with the tractor, add some kind of center spike (like on a tractor bale unroller) and then use the cable and mechanical power to unroll the bale. At least in our part of the world the typical round bale weighs between 800 to 1,000 pounds. Arnie may be fine pushing it now, but we all get older or have physical issues from time to time. Even the flu or a sprained ankle would make your system VERY difficult to do then. I guess I just think like this because I homestead with a disability, but it is something for us all to consider.
