These SHEEP got a NEW SHED
Join me on a tour of Sean's hand made sheep shed up on Orkney.
Sean Cursiter and his team gutted out an old slatted shed and invested a lot of time and money into making this incredible slatted sheep shed.
Let me know what you think.

ABOUT ME
I’m 32 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 850 breeding ewes.
I shore over 19,000 sheep this season in the UK and have my own shearing run which lets you see many different farms in the summer months.
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on KZhead and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe if you want to see more in future.
I appreciate how sheep farmers in your area support one another. I’ve been to Orkney. Beautiful- all of Scotland.
I watching with awe at the absolute beauty that is Scotland. We have so much to be proud of…Sean’s shed is a masterpiece. ..the sheep look so so good
There's a reason why most of history's greatest inventors have farming in their background: Necessity is truly the Mother of Invention. So many skill sets are needed to get the best from land, beast and people.
No more wheelbarrowing feed, Sean! You've done a right fine job with your shed. Congratulations!
As an arable farmer, I like the little pop ups explaining things, helps myself and other non stock viewers understand to point out bits we've only got half an idea on!
Yeah I should really do more of this George as I think it makes the whole video more interesting
Greetings from Norway…’went with» is very much like the Norwegian word vant … and we add the Norwegian word for with to mean « used to», so the expression seams to have traveled across the sea together with bern, kirk and bra 😊😊
Hey Cammy I bet that Sandi Brock would love this farm
Excellent just EXCELLENT. We'll planned, beautifully executed, I hope he is proud, he has earned it.
Hello I'm from Bangladesh you vijit Bangladesh
Great to see how it all came together in the shed.Sean and he's family have worked so hard .❤great video cammyxxxxx
The Scottish Sandi Brock!
Best of luck to sean Emma and family with the new shed hope all goes well. It's a serious setup.
That is amazing to see the shed in action. That is a fantastic design
seeing how the shed works in action makes my heart happy
What a beautiful place to live. It could also get very lonely. Your visit is a gift for both of you. Thanks for taking us along with you. 🐑
Fantastic, I love that young lad…so clever.
Very nice shed a lot of hard work has went into that.
What an amazing place to live, but such hard work, in amazement have how hard all you farmers work
great seeing the sheep going in and getting fed. it looks as if the new shed has worked very well. just the wee teething problem with the gaps but easily rectified.
That sheep palace looks even better with sheep in it!
Such a well planned operation. 👍
Absolutely beautifully filming captured with lovely content vloggs documentary .. keep it Up and you doing an excellent great job .. have a wonderful blessing weekend to you and your lovely beautiful family .. take care stay safe .. Merci
Cammy I always like your videos. This was a great video. Beautiful country. I've been once and one day hope to go again. You just make me smile every time with your infectious laugh. Love it. You just keep getting better and better.
Thanks Susan!
What a great sheep shed. Clean, efficient and smart. Congratulations on the new set up. 👍
Seems a shame to get the shed dirty 😅
Great series of videos about the Viking! We've been trying to chase away the late winter blues re-watching some of last year's lambing videos. Can't wait to see this year's! Thanks for posting this.
This looks like a cozy place for your sheep 😊. It creates an area wide enough for the feeding machine to easily fit through. Although the boards bowing gave me a worry 😮 as the machine rolled over them. Maybe more support is needed? I'm impressed with the design and the look of it all. Well done! 🎉
Set of aluminium 5 ton digger ramps down over the dipper, it’ll spread the weight and they’re light enough to move around if/whenever they’re in the way
My dad and grandfather (Ottawa Valley Ontario 🇨🇦) had a term usetovit meaning use to of it. I really like the “Went”with term. As Cammy says when some unfamiliar words are used in context of the sentence you understand.
This is just brilliant! I am looking forward to seeing how Sean does in the future.
I kept waiting for Sean to fall asleep counting the sheep..... I happens to me. 😂
Didn’t read all comments, apologies if a repeat but when Michael gets the proper spot on the feed alley to get both sides, paint a line on the concrete so he can line up the tractor
That's a good idea i'll pass it on
Great video again Cammy that is an impressive set up there and all hasn't built, excellent work.
Very nice shed that! Looks smart AF!
Wow! Beautiful video and beautiful sheep shed. Love watching the sheep jump those invisible fences. 😂 I absolutely love it when you show how smart the dogs are and when you use the drone. It didn’t take long for them to dirty the floor…oh well. It was nice while it lasted 🤷🏻♀️😂❤
A boy Cammy another good video 👍. Cracking shed. When you first introduce the sheep you're gonna find something that needs fixing & no better animal than sheep to point it out 😂😂. The two of ye working out at the end was a bit random 😂😂
An amazing shed Sean.
So nice to see such a lovely friendship between you two. And the shed is braaaaawwwww! Scotland is such a wonderful place. Thanks for sharing that wonderful scenery!
Could you utilize this new setup in an inside farming barn, where the sheep live year round? Do you think you could guys could sit down and do a cost analysis of what you'd save if you had the traditional barn setup converted over to this new concept.....I HONESTLY THINKS IT'S JUST BRILLIANT AND LOVE THE POSSIBILITIES IT PROVIDES AS WELL AS SAVING ON COSTS DOWN THE LINE!!!
Sheep could stay in here all year no problem 😁. Not sure we’ll have time to work it all out😅
@@TheSheepGame lol I didn't mean anytime soon, but maybe in a year and reflection on the books🤓😂...Call me a nerd, I just love to know those type of stats, I've always been a sucker for the research and data on how things work and what's the best way to get them done!
This shed is very similar to Sandi Brock’s setup. She keeps her sheep indoors year round in Canada. Check out her KZhead channel to see how she does it.
@@roosts20412 I've been a huge fan of Sandi for years...lol she was the one who got me hooked on sheep videos to begin with, and the one I was thinking of while asking these questions...... I think she would benefit wonderfully from the ease of this setup as well as the SAVINGS POTENTIAL IT HAS FOR HER ENTIRE SETUP! 🤗🙏🏻💜✨
Thanks again, Cammy,Zeus & Sean for part 2. We'll await part 3 ( lambing, dipping, shearing, etc..). As suggested before, adding wheels to the moving parts would make it easier. Also replacing the wooden covers of the dipping structure with enforced metal/ Iron " doors " with hinges to be opened easily and supported on the side partitions will make it easier to open/ close and support passing heavy equipment on it. Please keep up the good work and good luck 👍
Beautiful barn!
Love ❤❤❤❤❤ the drone footage. What beautiful scenery. I live in Canada 🇨🇦 in the province very well known to Canadians as “the Rock” which is the island of Newfoundland. The wind I can well appreciate what you said about the wind. We say “Wind so bad it would blow the milk right out of your tea” There are areas in Newfoundland very similar, not a tree standing. Really enjoyed catching up with your friend Sean and his seeing his new barn. Well thought out for sure.
Glad you enjoyed it! Canada is high on my visit list!
@@TheSheepGame yes Newfoundland is very much like Ireland according to my sister and hubby who have visited Scotland and Ireland. Many people here are descendants of those who came during the Irish Famine, the accent is thick. For about 10 years I lived a block away from a sheep farm on the outskirts of St John’s, Newfoundland. I’d walk my sister’s dog Abby, she was a very sweet good natured Golden Retriever RIP always on leash of course. And she would get all excited about the sheep and the alpaca. She was the sweetest, so gentle with her stuffies many of which were lambs and or alpacas.
Wow that's impressive!
The viking did great his ancestors would be proud.
It is beautiful and amazing to me how ya'll get the sheep to go where you want them to.
I watched the first installment. Seeing how things work is awesome!
Fabulous working dogs too 😎
Hello I'm from Bangladesh you come to visit Bangladesh Cox Bazar sea beach
Looks the business with them all lined up for silage in a new shed 👌
Orkney is a special place, I have visited twice. Beautiful new pen area.
I still find it unusual to see a Huntaway in Scotland! But I agree, having dogs with different styles of work on stock, gives you different tools for your management toolbox.🐑❤️
Love part 2 as well! it's nice to see the smart shed filled with the girls now, although I must admit that I feel they are with many in tiny spaces? Great drone footage, Cammie!
Great video Cammy congratulations to Sean n Emma on a fantastic shed makeover.
beautiful barn, I like the drive thru isles, check the rims on the front of your Kubota for cracking and see if there is compression washers to be installed.
Really enjoyed that, not long enough.
What a great set up , there’s always wee teething problems but well done Sean you can be very proud
It never ceases to amaze me how absolutely beautiful Scotland is. America definitely has some incredible places, and maybe it's a "grass is greener on the other side" thing, but I just feel like it doesn't compare. I'm so jealous.
Great vid again Cam...best bloody shed ever! Those Huntaways are brilliant dogs (and big enough to stick it up predators too) but OMG, they can be noisy! They're making their mark here in Australia and great to see them in the Orkneys. Cheers lads...
Awesome footage. Just beautiful! Looks like a great setup
Shaun just found your site I’ve followed you for many years on this farming life . I new you would make a success of the farm you took on for you and Emma great to see have subscribed will follow your journey with great interest 👍🏻🏴
I usually drive from Newcastle to Edinburgh and love watching sheep scattered in the fields, was thinking they don't have a shed till watched this ...loved it
I think you're amazing and if I ever get the opportunity to visit over there I would love to come visit your
I've always fancied some Lleyns!
I liked the informative subtexts. By the way, the dialect «went» is surely related to the modern norwegian «vant» which means «to be accustomed to» or «used to».😊
Scotland does have some beautiful places, just back from doing the north coast 500 I was in aww of some of the places we visited, we don’t appreciate just how beautiful our country is ❤️
Looks fantastic. I appreciate the full walkthrough. I will add that if he can change some of those locking pins into Shepherds Crooks, it might help in the long run.
Beautiful job guys. I need to win the lottery the Orkneys are so beautiful.
Looks like you have done this before. Tidy sheds👍
I love watching these videos. The biggest problem I have is with your language. I often have to pause the show and look up on the internet what a word means. It keeps me entertained, that's for sure. 🇨🇦
Use the closed captions, and write down those exotic Scots words for reference later.
5:17 “wend with” is a clear cognate of Norwegian “vant med”
In Dutch it is called gewend😀, Frisian use wend.
That Viking influence
Great video Cammy as always 👌
Did Sean get any young farmer government grants to help with all the gear and improvements? Those sheep didn’t need asking twice about going in the shed.
Not for this shed Wendy. I think the Te Pari was on a grant though
@@TheSheepGame I think the Te Pari will save a lot of young farmers joints when they reach old age. I have just got a new life thanks to a hip replacement.
Happy sheep, happy farmer.excellent animal husbandry.
Very clean 👍👍👍
Epic set up! I reckon you could send a few cameras to the Viking so his dad can see the feed coming out the back on a screen inside the cab 👌
Would be easy to set up I reckon!
I love this job ❤
Wow! 🇳🇿
If the small gaps are the only thing showing up, he's good. It's an easy fix.
Sandi Brock (KZhead) Sheepishly me. Straw bedding. One woman, 250 sheep? 🙂 Ontario, Canada.
She has more than 250 sheep! There's 4 sets: 1 of rams, & 3 of ewes. Everyone's rotated. All are kept indoors (coyote prevention).
@@Cricket2731 I didn't calculate the weaning barn... lol. And I can't remember what Sandi has said about total sheep.
She’s about 450 sheep, then there’s lambs
Australia would be one person, a kelpie and 10,000 sheep in several paddocks.
love the new shed guys!! 🐑 v wholesome
hello
Bigger broom, continue to appreciate what you and your family has. Just put a metal plate with 4holes and turn upside down gate rod ends to life metal plate. You only use dip seasonal. Metal plate is strong for tractor. Smiles, Belinda
I've been watching you so long now that I'm beginning to understand ya' all! Very interesting vlog with your great Viking friend, what could be better? Sean & dad (I assume) did a great job on thinking outside the box to putting a dream into action of a great facility. It does look tight though compared to the beautiful fields they were wandering. Seems sheep like to wander off for privacy to lamb in the field so I hope they adjust. We will all wait with bated breath to see how they settle in and if any lambs get 'stolen' by overly zealous/confused future moms. Will there be someone on watch 24/7 as they start lambing? Best wishes for great success Zeus & Sean! By the way, what did an average size dad like Zeus feed a son to produce such a large offspring?
His mother is some feeder. His dad has won the Ba before which is the most prestigious and brutal thing any Orcadian man can do (Have a look on google) so he's pretty dam tough. 😁 There will be someone there 24/7 yeah
This place is beautiful, like a dream.
Has Sean taken over his new farm yet? How is he progressing?
Yeah I did a video in summer going round it Keith =D
That's impressive Sean! I hope Cammy's around for your 1st couple of newborns. Just so we can see it all working! Thanks Cammy.
Brilliant 🎉❤
Aswome job guys
A fabulous scenery with an good farm setup. I too rare goat. I am from india. I want to work there on ur place on same concept. Love towards animals. Is there a job u can give😅. Congratulations for your new setup 🎉
On the gap issue, consider the closed cell pipe insulation. Tough stuff, especially wrapped with gorilla tape. Question...where is the water in the pens, and how does he plan to keep the feed shoved up against the pens?
U will see water in previous video 👍. Re silage it’s same attachment they use to push up cattle silage. 👍
Love your story. But I can't understand why you don't have a long trough for the feed. Would stop a lot of work. Have you seen Sandi Brock from Canada. Wonderful farmer and a gorgeous person.
The critters will appreciate this in bad weather.
Very interesting video 👌
🇨🇦 You have a beautiful barn ! I wonder if you could put small wheels under the ends of the gates for easy open and closing?
Beautiful farm.
How far are they off lambing? I ask because I would be worried, from what I can see in the video, about the risk of initial miss - mothering on new born lambs especially on multiple births until they get removed to small straw bedded pens. Dan
Would love to see a follow up review video in a month or so on how the shed worked...
If steel is out of price range, what about a removable wood brace set to bottom of concrete under the boards? You would lift out with cover when getting ready to dip but rest of time shortens span boards support across.
I watch a Welsh truck driver and he's always going on about Welsh sheep and wellys 🤣🤣🤣
Very interesting
You need something similar Cappie especially as you have had a bad year for losses this year.
That tractor comes so close to that support pole coming to feed. That’s a real danger. Very beautiful place. I only understood about thirty percent of what they said though. That’s how I sound with half a cup of peanut butter in my mouth.
Nice! Someday, Cammy, someday...
You know the sheds broken in when it’s covered in s#it after the first 30 seconds, lol…hope it all works as good as it looks.
Please explain more about the dip or bath built into the floor. I’ve only seen medieval farming dip the sheep to treat live and clean before shearing. Is this still done?
Yeah it's still done but only really after shearing now to kill any scab / lice and to prevent late season fly strike.
