My Life as a Sheep Farmer (SHEEP CHORES & MORE): Vlog 171
A day in the life is back!
Today is Monday…done soybeans and back in my BARN!
Nothing really extra planned, but my typical chores and helping Mark finish planting some last minute wheat acres before the rain.
This video takes you through a typical morning of sheep chores which is really just feeding, bedding and observing.
The afternoon I am on call to help Mark where I can…
#sheep #sheepbarn #chores
Question…
What is your favourite ‘tractor snack’??
Or, if you’re not a tractor driver…
What do you pack for snacks on a long road trip??

  • Grandma was German and baking was her "jam". She would start at 3 in the morning. There would be hot cinnamon rolls or apple strudel for breakfast after chores and before school. During planting or harvest time lunch was usually "chili buns". They were delicious hot or cold. A yeast bread roll stuffed with fresh made chili, baked in the oven with melted cheddar cheese on top. You need a grandma there to bake/cook for you Sandi!

I recently watched your blog on mental health and cried with you and really felt your pain. I think you are doing a fabulous job and hope you have more success in the future. Good job and Thank you.

  • You learn something new every day. I have not seen red wheat before! It is really red. Farming if often lots of little jobs which, to an outsider, may seen unimportant but in reality are the chains which keep the program running smoothly. Rams and ewes are looking good.

    @susanmarsh4351@susanmarsh43514 жыл бұрын
    • Thanks Susan! The red seed is really red due to a seed treatment that is used to protect the seedling in the ground. It actually is just a typical beige coloured (with a hint of red) for this soft red wheat.

  • Learned more in this video once again. Thanks for sharing. Your lunch for Mark in the field reminded me of what we used to carry with us when hunting in Colorado. Usually, some jerky or sausage snacks like you had for Mark, a couple of apples, maybe some potato chips, and plenty of water. Food on the run - sometimes it's really good - especially when you're hungry.

  • Thank you for that in-depth look into your wonky day with different unrelated tasks. I was wondering if you put a couple 8' long metal tube feeders in both of the sections for the rams and the ewes when you feed them and then manually fill the feeders after you have finished feeding the usual way to solve the problem of no feeding space left for the ones who cannot get to the usual feed bunks? On the tires try "stop leak" tire paste that you squeeze into the tire filler tube.

  • I am not collecting a crop but rather getting rid of horse bedding. I use the tracker to load it then spreader is used through fields. In the truck (pulling the spreader)I have a drink but have to watch the system as it likes to throw chains. If you don't see it go it can be hard to find. On the tracker nothing as at some point the wind blows it back on you so no eating or drinking.

  • We had to spray our gravity wagons every couple years with that graphite (?) spray. I like to have simple sandwiches for lunch and maybe some chips, pretzels, nuts, licorice, beef sticks/jerky as something "chaw on" inbetween. If we're still out there around supper time, depending on what we're doing, someone will bring out a nice warm meal.

Candied pecans, walnuts, macadamias with dried fruits like spicy mango. Or cold pizza or grilled cheese (with 3 cheeses). It's all got to be gluten free though (celiac sprue).
