  • The fact that the last two year is decided by literally 1 game is haunting. My positve outlook on it is that last years outcome the pens had been slowly declining with Hextall. This year dubas kept it stagnant now that hes had a full year to evaluate and see up close and personal to make the right moves to improve in the offseason Im not sold on Smith or Rakell or Jarry or Graves if they manage to get rid of them lots of cap frees up Harkins doesnt deserve a job after this year, Carter should retire. I unfortunately think Sully is untouchable but the rest of that staff need to be turned over get a bunch of fresh voices in that locker room. I really liked what we got from the young guys down the strech Pusti, St Ivany, POJ, DOC, Pulijujärvi those guy all deserve to be consistent regulars next year

  • Pens scared the crap out of Rangers. I think some of them wanted tank to the Isles (in the two games just played) to help keep Pens out of the playoffs. Also Boston beats us in Pitt and then loses 1:0 to the Caps? possible tank there too. No one wanted any piece of us in the playoffs.

    @johnnythunder196@johnnythunder19629 күн бұрын
    • PIT beat themselves in that loss to BOS. It was the one game during that recent stretch where they looked like the team we complained about most of the season. I agree that everyone wanted to stay as far away from us as possible, regarding the playoffs. DET also fits that descript. I enjoyed our interactions over the course of the year. • My sentiment towards the Pen's organization is best summed up by the words of King Arthur, son of King Uther Pendragon, to the Black Knight: "You make me sad". They didn't almost play themselves into a playoff spot over the past few weeks, but rather played themselves out of a spot over the majority of the season. And they ended this season as the third best team in the bottom half of the league. Way to go, Pens! With the aging of the core I doubt few, if any of them, will remember what they figured out over these past few weeks that they'll be able to carry into next season. Who knows how they'll be. Will we see Chris Leturnover and Geno Sulkin for most of the year again? Maybe they can take a page out of Crosby's book and try to improve their respective games during the off-season. For Letang it's the mental and Geno it's the emotional. Aside from Crosby, the player I have the most respect for is Rust. Remember how he just couldn't finish scoring chances early in his career and how he spent that one offseason shooting from all angles and positions and showed improvement the next season? None of this desire to improve seems to have ever been exhibited by Letang and Malkin and I now can see a future with the Pens being saddled with two contracts more burdensome than Jeff Carter's. And on top of that, there's Sullivan's stubbornness to play veterans. Now that Dubas has moved Jake, unloading one or both of Letang and Malkin should be emotionally easier and hopefully something is done before the start of next season. (Yeah, I know. So who can we get to replace them? Who cares. To paraphrase and adapt what Branch Rickey said to Ralph Kiner - we finished in the bottom half with you, we can finish in the bottom half without you).

If all the main players are back next season along with Sullivan then nothing changes. Even if they were able to bring back Guentzel, that will just reinforce the we are good enough on paper to not have to try that hard to make it actually work, country club mindset that's infected this locker room.

  • Yes DK it is definitely time to look at things big picture now that the season is over. The problem w. the Pens is that no one who controls the roster has done that sort of thing for years now and here we are. It's been bad roster choices followed by more bad roster choices. short term band aids that dont fix the problem..That's the American way. Dubus was no help. I think you start by looking at why the Pens were successful in the last month. I think that is revealing. It's not because the Pens were trying harder... Finesse teams just can't do great in the NHL any more and the Pens have been a finesse team for years now..That's why they get ousted in the playoffs in the first round . You also need a DEFENSE that can defend. As for me, I;m following the Lightning now..they're the Penguins with grit and grime and physicality and are fun to watch...and they can play some good D

  • I have a bag of mixed feelings at this point. On one side the disappointment for 75% of the season, a wasted opportunity for Sid and a poor managed Guentzel trade as I see it. On the other hand I loved to see the level this group has reached over this past month. And especially what Malkin and Karlsson still can bring. That gives new hope that there are ways to stay competitive next several years (instead of burning the whole thing down). There's more in place to built on then many could think some weeks ago. It also happend without Jarry and Graves. And Smith was playing, but not much of a difference maker. Those three represent a cap hit of 15 mln. Just saying.

    • @@richardarce9611 that's a major risk because Ned isn't a starter. Really have to hope that Blom can have a Matt Murray type start to his career. Which I guess is possible

  • They weren’t a playoff team all season and a little run of 10 games doesn’t change that. They need to rebuild. Period. The goal has always been the cup not to just squeak into the playoffs with the 8th seed with the lowest point total for an eastern team since 2013. Oh and you dont build around a soon to be 37 year old. It’s over. Move on and start over.

  • The emergence of Drew O Connor and Bunting after the Guentzel trade changed the whole landscape of this team. That being said if Pens can get Guentzel back at a decent price I'd be OK with it. That being said Graves, Smith, and Rickell all played terrible this season.
