Too late to start playing with only a month left. Thank you, Sid, for once again showing what a captain does. GOAT
They can't blame anyone but themselves. Too many OT losses.
And blown leads
blame Jarry if he didnt blow all those leads and actually stopped the puck instead of getting scored on 1 in 3 shots on average
The isles made it to 3rd place in metro with at least 15 otl. We gave up 2 many leads, too many goals at the beginning and end of periods, gave up goals right after we would score, trash PP, I can go on and on. We all watched this debacle this yr.
@@Briangoinpostal R Smith, R Graves and Todd R cost us 10+ wins easy...those 3 are the problem
Wrong again. Youre probably used to it by now. Its the losses where they did NOT get a point at all having far greater impact than OT losses where they DO get a point.
I am very disappointed in this team. I have watched the Pens for 40+ years. At least in the early 2000's we knew and expected them to miss the playoffs. These last 2 years have been downright depressing. No excuses for this club to fail 2 years in a row.
Yup. I drove 12 hours straight to make it to the Cup parade in ‘09. We have been lucky to have a team make the playoffs for so long, but last season and this avoidable, I think
Try being an Oilers fan
@@mrfake675 I’m sorry, friend.
@mrfake675 LOL Oilers are my second favorite team.
@@gamingoddity679 Penguins are one of my faves. You guys have been blessed.
Thanks Sid For another Great Season what you did Was Phenomenal
Everyone but Lars Eller. Thanks for the laugh. I fell in love with Eller this year.
He was a GREAT addition.
@@Topshelf87 You take out 5 or 6 guys and replace them with competent players and we have a great team...no doubt in my mind
They dug their own grave by blowing leads and leaving 12 points out there. They made a valiant effort, but it was too late. They seamed their fate with multiple missed opportunities during games.
Glad I checked out after Thanksgiving
The fact that the last two year is decided by literally 1 game is haunting. My positve outlook on it is that last years outcome the pens had been slowly declining with Hextall. This year dubas kept it stagnant now that hes had a full year to evaluate and see up close and personal to make the right moves to improve in the offseason Im not sold on Smith or Rakell or Jarry or Graves if they manage to get rid of them lots of cap frees up Harkins doesnt deserve a job after this year, Carter should retire. I unfortunately think Sully is untouchable but the rest of that staff need to be turned over get a bunch of fresh voices in that locker room. I really liked what we got from the young guys down the strech Pusti, St Ivany, POJ, DOC, Pulijujärvi those guy all deserve to be consistent regulars next year
Rakel says busy for us so what he had a scoring droughts as long as he keeps giving us chances to score and to win which he does I like him
The 4 guys you mentioned are the 4 who killed our season (along with the terrible coaching)
St.Ivany is a keeper.
That kid plays like a veteran - no panic in his game
Definitely and he plays the body and isn't shy
He's the real deal....now we need to sign two more solid d men and somehow dump Graves
9-0-12 overtime ugh. Plus Calgary :(
I'm glad it's over. I'll miss watching them play. But I won't miss their PP and I won't miss this season. Thanks Sid for another GREAT year. Your efforts were wasted sadly.
Pens scared the crap out of Rangers. I think some of them wanted tank to the Isles (in the two games just played) to help keep Pens out of the playoffs. Also Boston beats us in Pitt and then loses 1:0 to the Caps? possible tank there too. No one wanted any piece of us in the playoffs.
PIT beat themselves in that loss to BOS. It was the one game during that recent stretch where they looked like the team we complained about most of the season. I agree that everyone wanted to stay as far away from us as possible, regarding the playoffs. DET also fits that descript. I enjoyed our interactions over the course of the year. Keep bringin the thunder!
The Rangers and Flyers folded out of spite of the Pens
Hahaha - that DID cross my mind- especially the Bs.
How much of a meatball are you? Pens give away 3rd period leads like virginity on prom night. Pens scare nobody. Especially if you actually pressure Letang or Karlsson, they choke it up quicker than a MAGA supporter coughs up funds for a Trump campaign.
The Pens didn’t scare the Rangers. Seriously.
It’s hard watching both the Steelers and Pens have their fate in the hands of other teams.
First move is to make coaching changes! Lets get a coach who can coach defense and powerplay! Thats the absolute first move period! Just that alone propels teams into playoffs.
Seen it at the start of the season. Maybe next year. Edit: Bunt turned out to be a diamond in the rough ✨️ Thank the lord for small favors.
Would you be talking about ANY of those subtractions if it wasn't for that disgusting, pathetic Powerless Play? If that was even REMOTELY competent they'd have made the playoffs easily. The highlights of the run for me were St. Ivany and Sid of course. Oh, and O'Connor! He was terrific.
My sentiment towards the Pen's organization is best summed up by the words of King Arthur, son of King Uther Pendragon, to the Black Knight: "You make me sad". They didn't almost play themselves into a playoff spot over the past few weeks, but rather played themselves out of a spot over the majority of the season. And they ended this season as the third best team in the bottom half of the league. Way to go, Pens! With the aging of the core I doubt few, if any of them, will remember what they figured out over these past few weeks that they'll be able to carry into next season. Who knows how they'll be. Will we see Chris Leturnover and Geno Sulkin for most of the year again? Maybe they can take a page out of Crosby's book and try to improve their respective games during the off-season. For Letang it's the mental and Geno it's the emotional. Aside from Crosby, the player I have the most respect for is Rust. Remember how he just couldn't finish scoring chances early in his career and how he spent that one offseason shooting from all angles and positions and showed improvement the next season? None of this desire to improve seems to have ever been exhibited by Letang and Malkin and I now can see a future with the Pens being saddled with two contracts more burdensome than Jeff Carter's. And on top of that, there's Sullivan's stubbornness to play veterans. Now that Dubas has moved Jake, unloading one or both of Letang and Malkin should be emotionally easier and hopefully something is done before the start of next season. (Yeah, I know. So who can we get to replace them? Who cares. To paraphrase and adapt what Branch Rickey said to Ralph Kiner - we finished in the bottom half with you, we can finish in the bottom half without you).
The Pens waved their genitals in their own direction
I can't see that they learned anything this team was just like last year, maybe even worse.
Incapable of learning anything at this point. They haven't for years. All talk, no resolve or action until it's too late. If all the main players are back next season along with Sullivan then nothing changes. Even if they were able to bring back Guentzel, that will just reinforce the we are good enough on paper to not have to try that hard to make it actually work, country club mindset that's infected this locker room.
@@stevej.1428 totally agree
@@stevej.1428 I think if we get Graves, Smith, Raks, Jarry off this club it will be a night & day difference...
Adios Jeff Carter…….something something about where the Good Lord split ya…… The ham & eggers that sat out the last month & more; Nieto, Graves, Harkins, Acciari……GIT ‘EM AHT! Karlsson……eat whatever $$ it takes to move him. He’s a liability. He’s the face of this season’s failure. He SOMEHOW made the PP WORSE…….. And finally……..the Tristan Jarry experiment is OVER. Like Karlsson, spend what it takes to get rid of him. Good luck, Kyle! This is why they pay you the big bucks.
I agree with pretty much all of this, but add Riley smith and Ryan graves to those who need to exit. It will be tough to move em though
@@bls13thmember I mentioned Graves. I forgot about Riley Shit…. I mean Smith. They should fire that bum off into the sun! THE SUN!
EK isn't a liability and he has an NMC. Paying to get rid of Jarry is beyond idiotic
My favorite players are sidney crosby and drew o'connor. ❤
Malkin and Sid here
DK, do you think Dubas takes Crosby’s age seriously? It did seem him/ Sully made up (somewhat) for the Guentzel trade by pulling a lot of young guys with potential into the lineup. How much of this dumpster fire is Hextall’s doing? I could manage the team better in a coma than Hextall could vivid.
They f'd around.....and found out.
I say it wouldn't matter we can talk about all the problems but it's simple no 3rd line or Third line center so maybe we get a 3rd line this year I bet wish Staal was here
It happens when you don’t show up till the middle of March
DK, I've been waiting a LONG while for the right time to tell you this. Today, the day after the Pens have been eliminated for a 2nd straight year, is finally the day: The G string of the guitar in the intro music is way out of tune! It is audibly flat and I grimace every time I hear it, lol. On that note, I also want to say HVALA PUNO for giving us the Daily Shot. I look forward to it after every Penguins and Steelers game. Ziveli brate!
Yes DK it is definitely time to look at things big picture now that the season is over. The problem w. the Pens is that no one who controls the roster has done that sort of thing for years now and here we are. It's been bad roster choices followed by more bad roster choices. short term band aids that dont fix the problem..That's the American way. Dubus was no help. I think you start by looking at why the Pens were successful in the last month. I think that is revealing. It's not because the Pens were trying harder... Finesse teams just can't do great in the NHL any more and the Pens have been a finesse team for years now..That's why they get ousted in the playoffs in the first round . You also need a DEFENSE that can defend. As for me, I;m following the Lightning now..they're the Penguins with grit and grime and physicality and are fun to watch...and they can play some good D
Get that Tristan Jarry out of here
Who are you getting that's any better?
clean house
oh - & we BETTER SIGN NEDDDDD
Great last month, here are my takeaways. 1. Resign Ned, Trade Jarry and bring in Joel 2. Try to move Smith and Graves 3. Try to sign Jake Guentzel 4. Look for more Dawgs like Bunts 5. Keep the fire stoking into next season, dont wait till March
Given the improvement, would Jake come back for appropriate money or will he go to a “contender”? My guess is the latter given no matter what, this team will change drastically in the time frame of Jake’s next contract.
Too many were happy to go into OT and lose . Carter was a bust . Letang giving up too many goals not playing Defense . Still crying about Jake ? Geezzz , let it go already . We need to draft young , stay at home Defensemen . Forget trying pick up more and more Forwards . And stop picking up old , worn out players just because they were good 15 years ago .
Letang had a good season
Maybe work on PP even if the power play was running at 25% would be different story, heart broken its gonna be a long summer 😢
We all saw it coming. And it sucks. But it really was a fun final month of the season!
Pens miss the playoffs 2 years in a row. If we keep the same roster composition for next season, they won't go anywhere. Get some young studs and rebuild the team.
Not sure how they'll get young studs in any new future time frame. Everyone good they could trade has nmc and wouldn't garner the picks/ prospects. Maybe they can remake the bottom 6 and be younger. New assistant coaching changes and new pp ( only matters if players will execute it) to many changes to make imo
I have a bag of mixed feelings at this point. On one side the disappointment for 75% of the season, a wasted opportunity for Sid and a poor managed Guentzel trade as I see it. On the other hand I loved to see the level this group has reached over this past month. And especially what Malkin and Karlsson still can bring. That gives new hope that there are ways to stay competitive next several years (instead of burning the whole thing down). There's more in place to built on then many could think some weeks ago. It also happend without Jarry and Graves. And Smith was playing, but not much of a difference maker. Those three represent a cap hit of 15 mln. Just saying.
The Penguins are stuck with the contracts. The rest they should consider a "garage sale."
Sure, some players were underperforming, but what about the coach who kept playing those guys instead of benching them? I think Sullivan's the real problem for the Pens.
YES - we need to PUSH the young up and coming players. YES - we need to make sure Dubas does not re-sign Jeff Carter. Drew has been outstanding. St Ivany has been outstanding. Ned has been outstanding. Clear the decks of those who were not a part of the last month of games. Thanks DK.
Why in God’s name would Dubas re-sign Carter?
@@benjaminperez7328 I say it out loud so it won't happen lol.
@@ChristopherClause Don’t put that stuff out into the universe!
Sorry, not sorry, Malkin should have gone.
Back in 2018……….
@@benjaminperez7328 yup. I took a lot of crap for bitching about him last year, but when I had people watch him during games this season, they had to concede that he didn’t give a flying F. Moronic passes in open ice to surprised opponents’ tape , letting players go by w/o even putting his stick down, and leading the team in penalties. I was a huge fan of his years ago, but he plays like a $200K meatman now.
Why? He hasn't played bad just wasn't consistent
Letang maybe. I'd still have Malkin at 2nd line center.

Can't wait to scream "YAGER!" While I dedicate my heart to the cause.
they did it to themselves. All of March they played like trash, with bad coaching who won't make moves, only to make a late stage comeback fall short. Sid's best year and he has nothing to show for it. Sad.
…….my only friend, the end.
Well, at least they're not moving to Utah.
That in itself seems like a death sentence for anything.
That power play, the bad contracts to 27, 65 & 35. The core being year older unfortunately next season could be worse if Dumbass i mean DoooFus i mean Dubas doesn't get it together.
They didn't give bad contracts to Jarry and EK. Graves is terrible though for sure
This stinks, but the last few weeks have been the most fun watching the penguins in recent years. I was at Pens vs NJD and saw both Sid & Geno score TWICE. The penguins showed up, just too late and most importantly, get the right players and game plan for next year, better power play, better season
Washington played a boring- but effective trap - we did not. Certain issues are waiting for us now - Jarry or Ned/Bloomqvist --- what to do about a certain lanky defenseman from Nova Scotia? I think we have to figure out our defense - the youth and the elderly - first and foremost.
If only we had a bottom six and ppg's
Player have come and gone. Coaches have stayed the same. The problems havent changed. All of these good players that they bring in that play worse can't all be the issue.
I think next season - these guys are gonna be big … I’m really proud of what they have accomplished in the last month - & it wasn’t just SID like everyone loves to say … I’ve seen complete team efforts here against ALL of the BEST in the National Hockey League . even though I’m heart broken right now … I choose THIS 100/100 versus a month ago after Jake was traded & the team reacted like you’d expect them to for a few games & everyone said to “burn it all down” that was not just “good” but GREAT HOCKEY by my favorite team these last few weeks . & if we got Karlsson finally allowed to do his thing & finally meshing with this team & of course BUNTING! doing his thing & lifting Geno up - along with the new young D Pair of Jack & Shea & PO being what we’ve wanted all this time … & of course SID being SID … we got something … this season was strange - I watched every single game - & there were a few games where we lost & I was like “but wait no we won that game though ! What??!🫨😵💫🤯🥴” NHL gotta decide to do some things & I hope Sully addresses them about it over the off season - cause I’m sure he has a list of all the things I’m thinking about . not making excuses about losing by the one single point - cause there are a ton of things that went wrong - including having 2 players from the TOP line injured for a little didn’t help … well anyway - proud of what the guys were able to do towards the end . & I left out RUSTY & DOC - Sid might be the heart & soul of the team - but Rusty & OC have become the blood in the veins
If only they had spent 10 mil on a defender who defends
Ya,, Karlsson is what I had expected... and way too overpaid he can't win
They didn't soend 10mil on EK. Also, he had a good season
Carter has played his last game with us. 3.125 mil of salary cap freed up. Go after Reinhart.

They weren’t a playoff team all season and a little run of 10 games doesn’t change that. They need to rebuild. Period. The goal has always been the cup not to just squeak into the playoffs with the 8th seed with the lowest point total for an eastern team since 2013. Oh and you dont build around a soon to be 37 year old. It’s over. Move on and start over.

The emergence of Drew O Connor and Bunting after the Guentzel trade changed the whole landscape of this team. That being said if Pens can get Guentzel back at a decent price I'd be OK with it. That being said Graves, Smith, and Rickell all played terrible this season.
Watching Mtl Boston and Philly all play like absolute dogshit to fuck us over makes me hope they go through the longest droughts ever. What a trash way to end a season
The Bruins definitely tanked so they could play Toronto in the first round. They just chose to lose to the Senators instead of the Penguins for some reason
Sullivan and Reirden need to be gone.
