  • 10 strikeouts a game is enough to fire the hitting coach

  • I love the pirates man but watching them strikeout 10+ per game is getting really hard to watch. I’m no fair weather fan but if they don’t do something soon about Andy Haines I’m going to be a lot less interested in the product they’re putting on the field. He was fired by the Brewers (a team serious about winning) for a reason.

  • Not being a Debbie Downer here but I see nothing changing at all again this season as long as Haines remains employed. What should be a major concern to Bob Nutting on down is the lack of any development by Henry Davis and O'Neil Cruz. And like Dejan said, players who are crushing it in Indy get called up, look good for a few games and then once Haines gets a hold of them they start stinking at the plate. You would figure that in year 5 of this "rebuild" the mgmt and Nutting would really want to win. Unfortunately I strongly believe this organization would rather stick to their "plan" at any cost instead, showing us fans yet again that they prefer stubbornness to actual proven results.

    • It is not just Haines. It is the entire coaching staff including Shelton. And frankly it is charrington as well. Charrington sets the philosophy and culture and both need to change. Shelton contributes nothing, a “yes” man collecting a paycheck.

    • What's really galling to me is the VAST number of Pirates who show up in the playoffs and the World Series, but NOT as Pirates. Why are they bad or average as Pirates and suddenly superstars elsewhere? I look for Mitch Keller to be next on that list.

  • Get some Penguins fans to go to the games and start chanting "Fire Haines" on a nationally televised game. It worked for the Steelers. Embarrass them into finally taking action. Then they can start the "Fire Shelton" chants. Nunnally apparently didn't go along with their hitting philosophy of standing there and taking pitches right down the middle of the plate, that's why they fired him. One of the things that is so infuriating watching these guys is watching them looking at strikes, then swinging at bad pitches with runners on base. I think it was Conner Joe yesterday with the bases loaded swinging at the first pitch which was high and inside and grounding into an inning ending DP. Growing up watching Clemente, Stargell, Oliver, Alou, Mota, then the Lumber Company in the 70's, now having to watch these guys being instructed on hitting by a guy who knows nothing about hitting. So sad😞

  • Reynolds doesn't excite me batting .260 with 2 home runs. He's gotta do way better and particularly in key situations. He should be improving at this point in his career, not staying the same. I'm so glad there isn't a game today. Maybe they will be like the Steelers and play up to their competition (one hopes) aka "playing the good teams great". Things are getting real with the Boston and then Milwaukee series coming up (huge division series). This will likely set the tone for the year. They have to make a statement asap.

  • Good starting pitching but no run support. Get people on base and can’t get a hit to bring them around to score. The Pirate batters are standing up a bat waiting for a walk. Whoever is not producing “hitting” needs to sit.

  • Doesn't matter who the players are, Shelton and Haines will ruin them.Too many minor league prospects have come up hitting the cover off of the ball, only to crash after working with Haines for a while. Nutting/ Cherington has to know that Shelton and Haines are the very worst in MLB.... they aren't concerned about winning...

  • Dejan, you make some good points, BUT you reveal your bias by failing to mention that the Pirates are second in all of baseball in drawing walks. That's not insignificant. Pretty clearly the organizational philosophy is to work counts and grind out at bats. So far, particularly their young hitters are struggling with that approach. They need to be more aggressive in hitters counts, no question. How about let's wait until Memorial Day at least before we pass judgment on this offense?

  • Wake up, stop going to the games or watching on TV. Do that for ONE year and he’ll be forced to spend more or sell the team. We’ll never be contenders under Nutting and pirate fans continue to support a triple A team with an owner who’s only after the profit instead of winning. Pirates can easily afford to put a 90 million roster on the field every year but they spend what…half that?
