Dr Jordan Peterson discusses God’s existence, praying and faith with Piers Morgan

Clinical psychologist and public intellectual Dr Jordan Peterson sits down with Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan to discuss the existence of God, praying and faith.
Dr Peterson told Mr Morgan he's "terrified" that there might be a God.
"It's an Old Testament saying - I believe that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom - and that's actually about as true a statement as you can manage in such a short phrase," he said.
"People have congratulated me - I was at the Buckley Institute last night - they were congratulating me on my courage.
"And I said this last night, 'it's like you guys don't understand, it has nothing to do with courage, I'm just afraid of different things than the people who lie'."

    • @@LukeCrawford-sv4bk I am a Christian. There is no physical 'proof' for God. There is sufficient evidence that Jesus existed, there is insufficient evidence to suggest that Jesus is indeed the Son of God for a fact. That comes down to whether the person believes what the Bible says. I think it's worse that a Christian should lie to others saying that the Bible is physical proof: it's not.

Why not just show himself unambiguously, like he used to in the old testament...you know, before the time when humans could accurately record events. Oh, I think I see the problem! God is slow to anger? The same god who destroyed an entire planet of life because humans acted according to the natures god had given them? Who remember Allah while standing or sitting or [resting] on their sides and give thought to the creation of the heavens and the earth, [saying], "Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are You [above such a thing]; then protect us from the punishment of the Fire. Our Lord, indeed whoever You admit to the Fire - You have disgraced him, and there are no helpers for the wrongdoers. Our Lord, indeed we have heard a caller calling to faith, [saying], 'Believe in your Lord,' and we have believed. Our Lord, so forgive us our sins and remove from us our misdeeds and cause us to die with the righteous. Our Lord, grant us what You promised us through Your messengers and do not disgrace us on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed, You do not fail in [Your] promise." And their Lord responded to them, "Never will I allow to be lost the work of [any] worker among you, whether male or female; you are of one another. So those who emigrated or were evicted from their homes or were harmed in My cause or fought or were killed - I will surely remove from them their misdeeds, and I will surely admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow as reward from Allah, and Allah has with Him the best reward." Be not deceived by the [mercantilistic] wanderings of the unbelievers, on earth. Because it is a transitory enjoyment, and its abode will be hell. What a dismal abode. But those who feared their Lord will have gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding eternally therein, as accommodation from Allah. And that which is with Allah is best for the righteous. And indeed, among the People of the Scripture are those who believe in Allah and what was revealed to you [O Mohammed, The Messenger of Allah] and what was revealed to them [Jews & Christians], [being] humbly submissive to Allah. They do not exchange the verses of Allah for a small price. Those will have their reward with their Lord. Indeed, Allah is swift in account. O you who have believed, persevere, endure, be patient, be ever vigilant, and fear Allah so that you will succeed and prosper.}

Firstly, he knows that the motive behind the people who often ask him this question will not grow his faith in any way because they don't believe in God and don't want to believe but try to trap him with such questions. So in his view its pointless to just ask if someone believes in God , cuz they might say yes , but live their daily lives doing things that are a sign of a rejection of God. Which means anyone can say they do but their hearts are far from him Mathew 15:8 So he is more focused on actually living in accordance to fearing God than simply answering the question.. The logos was the one that created the world, that communicated with all patriarch (from Adam to Malachi). Christians attribute the logos to Jesus but not all Jews in 2nd temple did Btw, the logos was called the Son of God. It’s a shame the Islamic allah came too late to understand the term “son of God” and how it was been used for Jesus. The Islamic allah thought the son of god meant biological son 😆 😂 Well, my friend, you’ve learnt something new that the Islamic allah never knew. And pls don’t bring up dawah scripts by saying there were lots of people called the son of god 🤦‍♂️. Look at the Deadsea scroll (4Q246), which is also a 2nd temple literature, it talks about the Son of God. This predates Christianity by over 100 years. If you believe in Him, you must confess Him and give praises to Him before men, so that He would be feared and glorified by all. • In 1997, while living at 5412 berks street in Philadelphia with my elder sister, one day I left the apartment on foot to a dollar store to buy two meatball platters with spaghetti that the store sold for a dollar. I went into the dollar store and made the purchase. As I was done paying for the things I bought, I headed for the exit door. On my way to the exit door, a white lady was ahead of me to the exit door who had likewise purchased some items from the store. As I headed home on foot, she was going in my direction and in front. Suddenly, she dropped a small black wallet but kept on walking not realizing the wallet was not with her. People walking on the street were coming from behind and in front of us. Having realized this, I felt that if I walked over the wallet, the next person behind or in front coming my way that happens to see the wallet, could pick it up and decide not to return it to the rightful owner. Furthermore, I thought that if she got home and realized the wallet was not with her, she would be distraught depending on the content of the wallet. So I picked up the wallet and ran after her, yelling mam, mam. She turned around and I handed the wallet to her saying, “Mam you dropped this”. After collecting the wallet from me, she asked me a question by saying, “Who taught you how to do this? I said to her “JESUS CHRIST”. Then she said, “Thank you”, turned around, and went her way. As soon as she turned around and kept walking, a strong wind like a tornado came down from heaven and encircled me where I stood, and while in the midst of the whirlwind, it felt like someone was giving me the hug of a lifetime with tremendous peace. The peace was indescribable. Words would do it no justice. The wind was not destructive in nature but strong and gentle. People walking by did not realize what was happening because it was spiritual and only visible to me that day. Enveloped by the whirlwind, I felt like staying there forever because it felt glorious, so peaceful and full of such love indescribable that it was mind blowing as it happened. Next, the glorious Father from the excellent glory spoke out of the whirlwind with these words, “I AM WELL PLEASED BECAUSE YOU GLORIFIED MY SON JESUS CHRIST”. As soon as God the Father spoke out of the whirlwind these words, He instantly filled my heart with indescribable joy. The whirlwind remained with me for about 16 to 17 seconds after I heard those words with the arms of the Father in the whirlwind wrapped around me and then gently it dissipated from the scene and went up to heaven. This happened in broad daylight between the hours of 10 a.m. and 11a.m near city line avenue in Philadelphia. After this supernatural experience, I have never doubted the reality of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Ghost as clearly presented in the Holy Scriptures.

The Messiah Jesus, son of Mary, was no more than a Messenger of God and God's Word, which God bestowed on Mary and a spirit created by God; so believe in God and His Messengers. Say not: "Three (trinity)!" Cease! it is better for you. For God is the only One God, glory be to Him Far Exalted is He above having a son. The Messiah will never be proud to reject to be a slave to God, nor the angels who are near to God. And whosoever rejects God's worship and is proud, then God will gather them all together unto Himself. So, as for those who believed and did deeds of righteousness, God will give them their due rewards - and more out of His Bounty. But for those who refused God's worship and were proud, God will punish them with painful torment. And they will not find for themselves besides God any protector or helper. O mankind! So I seized them. And how was My punishment? And so your Lord’s decree has been proven true against the disbelievers, that they will be the inmates of the Fire. Those who carry the Throne and those around it glorify the praises of their Lord, have faith in Him, and seek forgiveness for the believers, Saying: “Our Lord, You encompass everything in mercy and knowledge. He teases relentlessly- oftentimes with tears in his eyes - about his belief in God but falls short of coming out of the spiritual closet. But he is not a Christian. Jesus said that if you will not confess me before men then I will not confess you before the Father. I love and respect him and have been enlightened and encouraged psychologically and philosophically by him. On the other hand I understand also that Jesus said not cast your pearls before swine lest they trample them under their feet and devour you. Perhaps his statement "it's nobody's business" is his way of sidestepping the confrontation altogether.

During the debates, others kept insulting each other and me with that negative word "cult." When I finally agreed that maybe we were all in cults and just didn't realize it because we were blinded by our own personal ideologies ... others adamantly disagreed, as they all wanted to believe that their own personal indoctrinations were based on literal truth, and that only others suffered from cultish systems of belief. After three years of that mud-slinging banter … in 2009, at age 70, I left all stories of the existence of a creator behind, and now accept Stephen Hawking’s theory, that the universe in one form of another always existed … no creator … no plan … and that suffering of all forms of life … was … and is … natural. I'm 84 years of age, and yes, I still worry at times about the suffering of life on earth ... but I most certainly don't worry about suffering in an afterlife ... because I now believe that it's as possible that human animals have afterlives, as it is possible that goats, or dogs or cats, or crocodiles, or mosquitoes, or viruses ... or any other forms of life ... have soul or spiritual afterlives.

If you you had a fraction of his insight you'd understand that he has "encountered" the God of the Bible way more than most and maybe not as intimately as any of the great mystics and saints, but he has a grasp on it that is orders of magnitude greater than Dawkins et al as a consequence his willingness and capacity to authentically examine his own humanity within the context of not only our cultural and historical milieu, but also with the deepest appreciation of our psychobiological inheritance, certainly to a depth greater than anyone else in the public sphere; consequently he understands the human condition that is orders of magnitude greater too. We should be grateful that there's someone of his intellectual calibre in the public sphere that is as transparent and conscientious as he is. What seems to transpire from your comment is that you are making the grave error (to your moral and existential peril) of conflating the God of the Bible with an external cartoon like entity that is only manifest in a materialistic sense as opposed to what dwells within to a depth that requires a level of introspection that allows for craniums to be not in the domain of rectal orifices, but that both craniums and levels of introspection reside in humility and authentic intent. Do yourself a favour and think for your *self* (truly for *your self* ) instead of parroting a sophistic narrative that sounds clever on the most superficial of perspectives but is absolutely totally lacking in wisdom as the aforementioned cartoon.

If ye believe not that I Am He, ye shall die in your sins... If any man come to Me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after Me, cannot be My disciple... And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that He gave His Only Begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved. He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God... All that the Father giveth Me shall come to Me; and him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out... No man can come to Me, except the Father which hath sent Me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto Me... Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I Am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls... Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto Me, except it were given unto him of My Father... As thou hast given Him power over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given Him... And this is the will of Him that sent Me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on Him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day... Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also... Have ye not read, that He which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder... Hearken unto Me every one of you, and understand: There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man. If any man have ears to hear, let him hear... Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him; Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats? That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man... Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire... Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart... For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?.. Repent ye, and believe the Gospel...I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish... I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I Am He, ye shall die in your sins... I Am He that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I Am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death... I Am Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last... I Am Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the Ending, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty." - The Lord Jesus Christ

I think that if you are a Christian you will lose your fear of death, at least I have found that true personally, and I also believe that there is a literal hell, other than the fact that we make hell for ourselves at times, right here and now in our lives. On one hand, this approach to religion opens the door to secular intellectuals to engage with such religion and exploring its teachings without necessarily having to believe in the supernatural. However, as it remains secular nonetheless, I wonder if this approach is a sufficient replacement for genuine faith, broadly speaking, and what consequences it could have on the long run.

He uses Bible stories as symbols and metaphors to describe temporal matters, but Christianity is mainly about atemporal matters, eternal matters, in a simple, plain use of the word eternal, meaning out of this life things, meaning the state after death. He doesn't want to go there, so I think he hasn't put his eternal destiny in the hands of Christ as a Saviour from the wrath to come, and savior and wrath are literal not metaphorical or symbolical. He doesn't think that there's is a literal hell waiting for the unrepentant sinners so it seems that he doesn't think that he needs salvation from that. Everyone has his own path in life, I hope his path takes him to the the feet of the historical Christ, the God-man and he can ask for literal forgiveness and literal reconciliation

The way he considers it, it would be worse sin for him to say he does believe in God if he doesn't really mean it, and if he's only 98% of the way there, he's not 100% there. Faith is a lifelong journey. If you got there sooner then you are blessed, but it's a big struggle for people who have trudged through the swamp of materialism for their entire lives. Works and claiming that you believe in God is a transactional God, and that person will never experience God's presence. 7:21-23 Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. He has no doubt spent untold hours studying and contemplating the scriptures, but his intellect has concluded that Jesus Christ is merely an archetype of truth. He has yet to conclude that he believes that the resurrection of Jesus Christ is a historical fact. He has been questioned directly on this and goes only so far as to say that if that were true it would change everything, but that he really doesn't know. In context, he acted as though the literal resurrection were a novel proposition. But a plain reading of the gospel accounts clearly teaches that Jesus really did rise from the dead - they leave no room for Christ merely being an archetype of truth. If he is seeking truth, he is on a tangent that is taking him far from it.

There is a Reason JESUS is the most documented figure way back then. There is a reason there are more Bibles sold then any book ever. Because when we search for real truth that is where we are lead. Its easy to doubt JESUS because our flesh loves the world we Love sin before GOD I was a mess it was amazing though once Born again most of those things disgusted me right before I loved them. When we are born again we start Loving what GOD Loves and hating what HE hates yes we will fail because the flesh and the Spirit battle constantly but those actually born again start walking like JESUS and they Love it. Trust me didnt write all of this so we could see who is right or what not I dont pride like that I just posted all of this cause I Love you and the rest and want you to make it to Heaven. Why not just Test JESUS and see if HE is who HE says HE is JESUS says SEEK ME WITH ALL YOUR HEART and you will find ME. Sorry went on bit long I am not much for writing In school it was my worse I still dont know why cause all the other subjects were pretty easy I guess we all have one stinky subject. @@kevinstreet220

The heart belief is only between individual and God know. My pastor once said: I don't even know if my congregation are Christian are not. I can only guess because of their fruits. At the end of the day, everyone conviction is unique and salvation is personal. That being said, Matthew 10:32 - 33 states "Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven." But so far, he hasn't deny Christian God. Who remember Allah while standing or sitting or [resting] on their sides and give thought to the creation of the heavens and the earth, [saying], "Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are You [above such a thing]; then protect us from the punishment of the Fire. Our Lord, indeed whoever You admit to the Fire - You have disgraced him, and there are no helpers for the wrongdoers. Our Lord, indeed we have heard a caller calling to faith, [saying], 'Believe in your Lord,' and we have believed. Our Lord, so forgive us our sins and remove from us our misdeeds and cause us to die with the righteous. Our Lord, grant us what You promised us through Your messengers and do not disgrace us on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed, You do not fail in [Your] promise." And their Lord responded to them, "Never will I allow to be lost the work of [any] worker among you, whether male or female; you are of one another. So those who emigrated or were evicted from their homes or were harmed in My cause or fought or were killed - I will surely remove from them their misdeeds, and I will surely admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow as reward from Allah, and Allah has with Him the best reward." Be not deceived by the [mercantilistic] wanderings of the unbelievers, on earth. Because it is a transitory enjoyment, and its abode will be hell. What a dismal abode. But those who feared their Lord will have gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding eternally therein, as accommodation from Allah. And that which is with Allah is best for the righteous. And indeed, among the People of the Scripture are those who believe in Allah and what was revealed to you [O Mohammed, The Messenger of Allah] and what was revealed to them [Jews & Christians], [being] humbly submissive to Allah. They do not exchange the verses of Allah for a small price. Those will have their reward with their Lord. Indeed, Allah is swift in account. He has been questioned on this and goes only so far as to say that if that were true it would change everything, but that he really doesn't know. Therefore, he most certainly is not a Christian. • And wisdom shall increase.... But, men will NOT come to the knowledge of TRUTH.... This man is going in intellectual circles... searching his own internal and personal wisdom, and totally missing TRUTH. This is the perfect demonstration of the term 'lost'.... not being able to find your way home. Not being able to find the answer. THINKING AND RESEARCH AND HUMAN UNDERSTANDING HAVE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH TRUTH. GOD IS NOT LIMITED TO THE MINSCULE AND MEANINGLESS BLOB OF GRAY MATTER IN OUR HEADS. The man states that he can not think on, and will not speak to, things that are beyond his human 'understanding'. The limits of his intellect and knowledge. To find GOD, one must not lean unto their own understanding. The supposition that 'god' is something within us that connects us to the bigger existence of the universe. That, my friend, is saying that WE ARE AS GODS.. THAT IS THE ORIGINAL SIN THAT RESULTS IN DEATH. Peterson is right about one thing... DEATH (and hell?) are the complete cessation of existence. We are not eternal beings. The common religious ideology of hell-fire is simply not correct. The lake of fire has been prepared for Satan and his demons. They are eternal beings. We are NOT eternal beings. It is the saved, who are ultimately resurrected, changed, transformed, INCORRUPTIBLE... as the angels. Thus can be with the Lord, forever.

      @pillowface5628@pillowface56286 ай бұрын
    • It really should not take three decades to research whether or not Jesus Christ was really bodily resurrected - which is what all truth hinges on in regard to God. Peterson has been directly questioned as to whether or not he believes that the resurrection of Jesus Christ is a real, historical event. He replied that he did not know but that if it were true it would change everything and that scared him. He has no doubt spent untold hours studying and contemplating the scriptures, but his intellect has concluded that Jesus Christ is merely an "archetype of truth." But a plain reading of the gospel accounts clearly teaches that Jesus really did rise from the dead - they leave no room for Christ merely being an archetype of truth. If he is seeking truth, he is on a tangent that is taking him far from it. So...there is no way Peterson is a Christian in any sense of the word. The bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ is a fundamental and essential tenant of the faith. No resurrection = no gospel.

  • Christians walk by faith not by sight, and Biblical truths are spiritually discerned - that's why Jordan hits that limitation. I think it is very strange that Jordan wouldn't say he was a believer in the gospel, unless he isn't a believer. God's Word is higher, worthy of more glory, than Jordan's. What a platform Jordan has to bring more glory to Jesus Christ for His sake. To accept the gospel, one must be humble, and realize they need a Savior for their sins. This scripture reminds me of what Jordan has said here: Matthew 19 13 Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. 14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. 15 And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence. 16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? 17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. 18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, 19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 20 The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? 21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. 22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. I pray that Jordan Peterson's great posession - his intellect - doesn't hinder him from coming to a saving knowledge of the Truth. There's only one way to heaven: Romans 10 8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
