Beginning work on an altered book that will be filled with collage bits from some of my favorite journal makers and Etsy sellers. This video shows how to alter a book and I'll begin collaging the first few pages. Thanks for watching!

Your voice and the sound of you making art with books just stopped an anxiety attack I was having. Just wanted to say thank you. Got lost in this and then realized the anxiety was gone. Very calming and definitely inspiring.
Oh that makes my heart feel good, Rachel. Thank you for sharing this story! ❤️
I am just now learning about junk journals, I love your channel and have learned a lot still have lots to learn. I am praying that CRAPPA doesn't mess my favorite channels.
Whenever I alter a book, I tend to obliterate everything - I quite like this gentle way of altering, leaving some of the pages with illustrations intact. You gave me some good ideas, thank you!
Time spent here with you is just like going to your besties house to craft together. You make me laugh and you dont act like a professional in that you arent afraid to let loose and say something silly or even once in while kind goofy. I feel like I just spent time with a good friend jokin and having fun. I need this like you cant even imagine Gayle so thank you. Oh and I'm making an altered book so this is very informative on top of havin a blast. Marlene. and I dont mean you arent professional in what you do. It's just you can have fun while working.
Thank you, Marlene, for your kind, sweet comment! I love spending time with you too!! ❤️
Inking makes ALL the difference! Thanks for sharing.
I am watching these in reverse order. Just call me backward! Lol but this is as interesting as it is tedious. Maybe I just like listening to you. I am doing junk journals. I think the best will be my sons. Pics from his mission will fill the pockets and tucks. I like your projects. Learning loads!
Gayle I think you need to decorate however you want. You absolutely love the distressed look, so do it! Everyone I watch has a different style and each brings inspiration and new techniques along with them. I do not expect them to do the same thing and indeed I do not want them to. Stay true to what you love, and continue to love what you create. We do!
Nope, it was on camera. lol I love watching you problem solve and how you explain to us why you decided to do what you did. Thank you, Gayle.
I sat down in front of the TV to begin an altered book, turned on your channel for company, and there you were Beginning an Altered Book! I'm starting my second altered book, but it's my first vintage altered book.
Hi Gayle 🖐🏻🖐🏻 I know this video is old one but I’m laughing so hard when you are counting these book pages and said “ my brain is hurting “ because I was counting pages with you and my brain was hurting too !,, oh you makes my day better/ great everyday!, keep up your good work!! 😂😂😂❤️❤️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Gayle, I just had to tell you you are my favotite teacher of crafting. I watch all your vids and so enjoy your sense of humor. It's just like your right here with me. I get sooooo many ideas from you! (Not enough time lol to do it all!) Please please keep on keepin on! Hugs
Thank you so much fo your kind comment, Lois! ❤️
Another project that you make me want to do. As regards to inking - embrace your style, it's part of why I (and I'm sure, others) love watching you. If you're enjoying it, we are enjoying it. ;)
I had no idea which direction you were headed here. There are so many versions of book altering, but I am pretty sure this one is my fav. The pages have such a sense of random order, if that is even a thing. You are so good about always adding the small things that tie the pages together. Go ahead and ink away, my friend. If you are happy, we are happy!
I love that you’ve been watching older videos, Jean! With over 800 out there, I’ve covered all most every subject (at least the ones I get questions about). But always more new things to do than I have hours in the day! I want to make a Christmas book like this one! ❤️
I like to watch people collage too! thanks for taking us along on your journey!!!
It's amazing that you do what you do. I enjoyed watching you very much. I've never watched anyone change a book like this before. I feel I'm learning so much.
Hi Gayle. Another wonderful project. I sometimes feel like I am watching Romper Room waiting for my name to be called out for the hi and hugs ☺️❤️
As a kid I watched Romper Room every single day. I loved Miss Florence. I waited, with bated breath, to hear my name called out at the end of the program. She said all my siblings names on various days but never my name. I couldn’t figure out how she saw my siblings, who were at school, but couldn’t see me right in front of the TV. Then on the day Miss Florence finally said my name I was over the moon happy. My faithful viewership finally paid off. The first 15 years of my life I only met 1 other “Andrea”. It was not a wildly popular name. When I graduated from college, in just one of my college classes, there were 5 “Andreas”. It’s nice to know I’m not the only Andrea in the world anymore. 🥳💁🏻♀️👏🏽
I love how you saved the illustration pages! I plan on altering a giant flower book (with lots of photo pages) for my wedding (guest book/photo album) and that’s what I hope to do!! Ha! I find I end up doing that-excusing myself to look for stuff!!😊 You’re too fun!!❤️
You absolutely make my day! I watch all of your videos with a huge smile on my face 😊
I ink every new project, while I am thinking of you and hear you lough.... You are my Inkingqueen! Enjoy your holidays Gayle
Rewatching this video...just bought a new botanical tulip book for the illustrations it is large and heavy...decided to make a vintage postcard journal with pockets and tucks to showcase the postcards so they are removable...saving some illustrations and pages for collage...this video is perfect for me...thanks again for all you share 🐇❤️
Watching others collage gives me so many different ideas. I'm constantly learning from all of you girls who I like
Great video again Now I feel confident to make a start myself. Every morning I look forward to watching you create Thanks for always making your videos count Much love from Melbourne, Australia xx

Love your junk journal organizer too!
I almost choked when u said no distressing...lol I'm glad you did some...it's my favorite. Everything should look old and loved
"maybe i can limit my self to (inking) edges and focal points" she said.... and the crowd roared with laughter! 😂😆😍 ink away gayle..... we'd be disappointed if you didn't, and it adds just that extra something-with no added bulk! i had to go back and see the "missed stamping" since you were laughing so much-i totally missed it the first time! it is worth the rewind my friend-i needed a good giggle! i haven't done an altered book in ages, that's gonna change after seeing how much fun your having. excited to see the cover/DT project your doing for tracie! tfs pal, hope your having a great time with family as you get ready for the retreat! 💕
Good morning beautiful lady! So happy you are doing an altered book, great video.♥️
Gayle, still catching up in your videos and was so excited to see your new project was an altered book. Not only that, but you’re doing a series on it. Looking forward to viewing the rest!
Love this so much! Glad I found your channel ❤️
Gayle, have you tried putting a couple of strips of masking tape on the back of your ruler? It works on quilt rulers. That tiny bit of texture helps it not slip. I always forget how much I love your videos! TFS.
Hi Gayle, I never see any1 do this type of altering a book and I love what I saw so far. It's fun to hear your beautiful laugh.
Was not off camera 😂 abd I laughed out loud!! Funny!
Crafting fun with Gayle❤
I have never done an altered book and this looks very interesting. Now you have my brain wanting to do one of these. Another fantastic crafting journey.
Gayle I tune into you first thing in the very early morning and you truly make my day begin with a smile. You are my favourite artist and I am always inspired to do some crafting after watching you and listening to your cheerful voice. Thanks so much 💫
Thank you so much, Georgie! ❤️
I have two of these books so yes I’ll be saving this video

Another awesome video Gayle xx
😂🎉❤hello , I must try making these altered books. Great idea. Thank you 🙏
I am looking forward to watching more of the altered book progress. This is so pretty.
I absolutely love to watch and listen to your videos...thank u for brightening my day
I work on a glass desk and I found out it makes certain craft tools slide out of place. I make sure I use my mat or tape brown craft paper on it. Great tutorial on altering an old book. On my to do list. I came across old typing paper from back in the day at my mom’s house, apparently my dad had bought it for my sisters and I when we had typing homework back in the early 70’s, it’s almost like tracing paper, very light and I was able to print on it using my printer. The paper also aged over the years, so happy to see that. My dad was a crafter himself, found some hidden goodies that I could use in Junk Journals. Would you gesso lightly over the words in the book and then collage over it, kinda do a mix media page in the book? It’s such a pleasure watching your videos. TY 😎
Yes, gessoing the pages would be cool! You’d probably have to be careful not to use too much and buckle the pages though. ❤️
Actually, Gayle fulfilled my life-long dream of being called out just like Romper Room. She called my name last year!!! YEAH Gayle!!
I love altering books and making junk journals, I am learning so much from you and getting great inspiration. Thank you for always sharing! God bless!
How fun is this???? I had a basic idea of what an altered book was and no desire whatsoever to make one until I watched this video, and now I’ve been digging through my stash trying to find a book I can alter!!! I can’t wait to see what else you do with yours!!!
Beautiful work Gayle. I’m gonna be on the hunt for the perfect book to alter now too. Looking forward to seeing it all done, thanks again for the inspiration.
I’m so excited you are doing an altered book as I have been wanting to do one too! So, I’m crafting with you! Thank you for sharing! ❤️
I loved watching you doing this altered book. I can't wait to see part 2 so I'm going to look for that now. I am learning a lot so thank you! 😊
Super cool and super pretty. TFS
Thanks for another video and start of another project. I went to our local library and they gave me a dozen hardcover books in Japanese that they did not need. One of the books, the pages are very old and when I folded a page, it almost ripped in half, so I will be treasuring this book, but I will use pages from the other books, in some of my junk journals. Thanks again!
Omg, all those lovely little illustrations throughout that book would be so nice to work with. Great book.
Good morning Gayle! Love this altered book beginning! Can’t wait for more lol ❤️🌹 have a blessed day
Gayle, this is a fun video to watch. Love the altered book so far. I do have to say I try to tell you “it’s alright to ink the edges because that’s your style”. Don’t change a thing.
Inking makes you happy, so just let yourself be happy! You should sell some packs of book paper in your shop. A lot of us can't get aged pages (especially with drawings) for a good price locally.
Love it! ...keep on distressing....it shows the love!
Good morning Gayle (well, it's morning here in the UK!) I am so happy that you are walking us through altering a book as I have many that I don't want to completely cut up but had no idea on how/where to start on altering them to make them more functional instead of just sitting there doing nothing as I don't have the heart to completely gut them!! Thanks for sharing, much love, Victoria xx
Gayle, I thoroughly enjoyed this video then decided to craft with you in my own altered book. Thank you. Hugs to you and your family with prayers for your daughter.
Once again Gayle, thank you for all the ideas for another awesome book. 💖
WOW, Gayle. I love the way you have put together odd bits and pieces and created a masterful collage page. I love it.
Now that was fun. I need a altered book. Thanks Gayle. I enjoyed watching this. 💕
oh Gayle yay yay yay lol - i love playing in my altered book and i look forward to using your inspiration to continue - thank you so much for all you do hugs xx
Perfect timing! I’ve been wanting to learn more about doing an altered book. Lots of instruction and tips. Great video, as always.
hiya Gayle new subbie here... If you will switch to a metal ruler and turn it over so that the corked backing is face up and you lay the flat metal part flat against the paper, you'll have zero issues tearing papers even the tiny strips. thanks so much for the videos. you've inspired me to craft again after many years off.
Welcome to my channel, Amanda! I’m so glad you’re here and crafting again!! Hugs to you! ❤️
I’m really looking forward to the rest of this project, Gayle. I didn’t think I wanted to make an altered book, but I’ve been inspired!
So fun. Love it! 😀
Absolutely amazing 🤩
Mrs Gayle!! You always cheer me up!! I can be having the worst day sometimes and you crack me up!!! 😂😂😂 I’m literally about to go dig through my vintage books and alter me another! Lol! The last one I did for my sis last yr! I need my own! Thanks for the laughs! Keep up your book so we can see!! 😂🌷🌷🌷
Love your videos! Thank you for sharing!
Hi Gayle, Love watching and also love how you use the distressing ink. It just finishes things off. Thanks for sharing.
Hi!! So much fun! I can’t wait to have more time to play with you! Xoxo❤️❤️❤️
I just love crafting with you. This is a wonderful idea.
Oh Gayle, I so needed this! I found a book today at the thrift store and I love a lot of the illustration in it. Now I have some idea of how to get it started... Yay!!
Hi Gayle, I've been thinking of doing an altered book. Thanks for sharing the video
Great info, since I’ve never seen this done before. Thank you!
Love collaging with you! TFS, Gayle!
Gayle I know you did this a year ago, But you inspired me to do my first one. Thank You so much for your excellent video that is so easy to go by. I truly love it.
Inking s a good thing and it hides a multitude of “sins”. Not that you need to hide anything...except the occasional white edge. Keep on inking girl ‘cause you are so good at it. Go for it LOL
What a great idea. A collage book. Love it as I love to collage. Going to do this. I have a book I just altered too. Thanks for the great inspiration and you had me laughing and pointing things out like “no put it there”. Enjoying this video.
This was so fun to watch! I want to drag my stuff out and work on my journal! Thank you very much for sharing!!
That was fun...been wanting to see how altered books go together, especially with collage!
I think I will try this. Thanks for the videos. I enjoyed you and your beautiful journal in progress. On to part 2!💜
This is awesome timing I’m altering a book at the moment!! And I have no idea what I’m doing!!!😂😂!! Thank for all the good ideas and tricks!!! My book is Vintage as well so this is perfect ! Thank you!!
I finished my first altered book and I love it!! Thanks so much for your clear instructions. I really love your videos and usually have them playing while I work on journals.
Absolutely love!! Can’t wait to see you play in this some more. 💕💕💕
Thank you for this tutorial. Headed on a trip and I am wanting to journal while traveling. Thinking perhaps making one of these.
Loving it so far, simply beautiful.
Hi Gayle, You are my favorite person to craft with me in my craft room! Good thing you only take up the space of a tablet because it's full of supplies! About your ruler tearing...the ruler must be completely flat on the table. The ruler with the little metal edge isn't. Flip to the wood side to tear against. Try tearing with your dominant hand and hold with your non dominant hand. And always tear off the largest piece with the small one held under the ruler. Hope this helps. Thank you for inspiring me to make journals. I absolutely love it.
Oh brother. Another new craft idea I have to try. Gayle, you are such an enabler 🤑
Gayle great tips and thank you for the shout out on the other paper shops!
Beautiful! Enjoyed watching you collage!
I am sitting here with a very painful UTI, but you had me laughing all through the video with your cute little ways and I love how you laugh at yourself!!! And, by the way, you have me now needing to 'ink' just about everything!!! LOL!!!! Hugs, and more hugs!!!
These first pages turned out lovely and looking forward to seeing how the rest of the book developed. Can't wait to try this on the book I got. Hope you are having a very restful and enjoyable retreat, Gayle. It's been good to watch some of these videos I haven't seen before while you have been gone. God Bless. Sue
Very interesting ,you're loving it and it's catching X I score the back gently before trying to peel works easy peasy xxx Lizzie
Love it love it!!! Yay, here we go, another series. TFS. 😻x
Great video. Love watching you create and listening to you talk. Have a crafty day.
I used the cutter edge (including the paper it is attached to) off a wax paper box and glued it to the edge of a ruler. It tears wonderfully!!!
Hi Gayle, Lov'in this altered book so far. Can't wait to see more!
