You can tell he is very concise with his speech and knows what to say during interviews, great stuff
Every person here does...
I’m guessing that’s because it’s his second language and when English and other languages are taught it’s usually very precise instead of naturally learnt languages where it’s a lot more casual
Yeah
It wasn't a great video tbh, most of that info is common sense, he should give us more examples of what the defender would do in different scenarios.
He is a great teacher. He understands and articulates the nuances of high level play quite well.
He could go on to be manager
He got schooled by Luis Diaz 🤣🤣🤣
😈😈😈😈😎🌍👇
He is Portuguese & speaks such fluent English!! No wonder his team is defensively so sound as he can communicate clearly with whole defense & organise it effectively with concise instructions.
ye cuz he’s in Man City so he’s in the uk and knows English
@@diefronald2653darwin nunez has been at liverpool for a year and cant speak english, cant even understand it

@@rubutu8408 what point u tryna make? its pretty common for players to learn the language of the league they play in, it just happens theres also a few that dont bother
Tbf. A lot of Portuguese players speak very good English.
The best advice is "it depends" I teach my players the same thing. There's no set guidebook. It's a game of chess with a ball. Excellent video.
Me a chess player watching this beacause tomorrow is a match And hoping to play like Rubin diaz tomorrow . 🥲🥲
@@Zubeen_Garg_2005lol
There is no such thing as a perfect defense, as there is no such thing as a perfect offense. Every formation, tactic, lineup and setup has strengths as it does weaknesses. This is why positioning and match awareness are paramount to every position on the pitch at all times.
The only requirement is mentality and physicality to be fast and strong, and also not be hard on yourself. Knowing the basics, and now its "it depends". Good players know the best thing to do when given the ball, thats what separates them.
I find it amazing how all of pep guardiolas students always sound so articulate. "football is a game of certainties and uncertainties" really caught me off guard.
He's not Pep's student. He just happens to be an intelligent guy.
@@jeanjacqueslundi3502pep doesn’t just pick up anybody. But yes not peps student
Fut bol is a game of skill, it is a lot like chess, as a defender you are reading youre oponent, you try to.anticipate their movement and also you want to stop them by any means necessary, you have to constantly use your peripheral vision that way you know you're opponents position also before you even get the ball you already have in.mind what you're going to do with the ball, as a defender your timing gas to be perfect a missed tackle can be a break away that ends in a goal or a penalty kick. Love the game
Which means everything and nothing… 😂
Their are not articulate because they play with Pep. They play with Pep because they are articulate. In other words you're not a good player because you play with Pep. You play with Pep because you are a good player. I am not trying to say that Pep doses not improves players, cuz he does and a lot, what I saying is: Pep is the kind of coach where his players need to fit and adapt to a certain philosophy, unlike Mourinho, Ancelotti or Zidane where the coach adapts to the players. Zidane coaches the way he used to play: Put the players where they feel the most confotrable and let them shine, cuz then they have no excuses but it adds more weight on the player's shoulders. Pep on the other sides is a control freak, cuz as he says so many time, if there is no control caos takes over and in caos anything can happen. So every players "just" has to do what he wants. Which means "less" responsabilty for the players, BUT the problem with this way of coaching if you don't have the "right" players it won't work. Unlike Mourinho or Zidane: They don't need the "right" players they only need "good" players. You can be a great Player but not being able to play in a Pep team. For example Bale is a Zidane kind of player because he is not a player for possession football, he is more of transitional player. Just like prime CR7, Di Maria or Even Mbappe. What Pep always looks for is a player that is comfortable with ball and can play with a slow pace players like Bernardo, Busquets, Xavi, Joáo Felix, Kimmisch, Pedri or even Griezmann.
“Because they need 1 good action and you need 1 mistake.” 👌
The guy is very smart and an elite defender.

no wonder why I'm a big fan of Rúben! I'm just an ordinary girl who is a huge Manchester City fan, probably people would label me or view me as "That typical fangirl who loves her fav player only because of his looks" but in fact I'm not, and many girls are not! I personally pay attention to every single thing Rúben does. I'm not a football player myself but I try as much as possible to learn about football techniques that improve any player's capacities and Rúben is the perfect example. from the way he's answering questions, to the way he talks and explains details, to the way he actually plays on the field, not mentioning his high class ethics, literally one of the few players who dedicate themselves to football fully with much focus. I wish him all the best of the best in the upcoming games and life in general because HE DESERVES IT 💙 força rúben e boa sorte sempre 🫡
Like that response "they need one good action, you need one good mistake". Tough but thorough words.
I've been watching this man play since he joined City and I can hardly remember him putting a foot wrong. Perfection at the CB position.
thanks ruben as a striker i will also implement some of this advice into my training.
Damn…His english is even better than the time he just joined the club(At that time he‘s already good❤
Woah his personality is outstanding 💯💯
I was waiting for this video for months. More defending videos pls 🙏
Love it love your content😊
nice vid lads keep it going
never came across this well explained topic.
Best guidence ever♥️
Brilliant!!!! Charmingly articulate and technically superb content. Thank you.👏👏👏👏👏
Brilliant. Soccer is a low-scoring game, which means that it is a game based on defense, not offense. Forwards get all the glory, but defenders win the games.
One of best defender 💝 fav 😊
I know that you are a attacker watching this video to read defender's mind 😂😂
So informative what goes on the defenders mind..
I thought the advice at the end was best - to improve as a defender is not necessarily practice practice practice but to learn and understand is the key. And then of course practice!
sayin a lot about ruben's answers but goluremi's interview skills are so good and get those good answers out
So defence is mostly intuition and really “in the moment” it’s not really an art to teach to others but to teach yourselves through rl situations. You teach how to stand or stance yourself, along with the physical capabilities necessary. Beyond that is just pure experience, and watching some games to learn movements and habits of the players within a 10 metre radius. One thing I always do is CONSIDER THE 2nd option, you have 2 legs so use both, but have it at the front of your brain. Then again I’m a winger so I may not kno what I’m talking abt 😭if u got any tips for me lmk ion mind some more defensive capabilities
to start, since your on the wing, try and force them to go close to the touchline. If their getting close to your goal or if their getting to be in a position that you don't like and their about to pass, don't be afraid to give them a little push at the last moment or try and get them off balance, this always helps. I play fullback and I completley agree with what your saying. The only advice I've ever been able to give when asked about 1v1s is just dont fall for it. Don't fall for the stepovers or the chops or anything, anticipate and go for the ball when it's inconvinent for the opponent. gl man
@@thegoat1242 ah yes the little push you give right before they pass or shoot, great tip man
not so sure man
Of course defence is a teachable discipline/position. There are core principles, skills, tactics. You build a lethal arsenal of capabilities. The intuition comes in the moment of play, but what we would call intuition is really your mind, body, muscle memory, experience, game intelligence, teamwork and communication, etc. all working together to create a pro-level response in a microsecond.
yea
He teaching very well 🔥 easy to understand
He's brilliant. Top class.
7:20 I think that could have applied to this video as well. Pleasure to see him on the channel but so much of his answers were "well it depends" because no defender can give you a definitive "law" on it. If maybe he was able to be in a few 1v1 scenarios with a top level academy player then we could see how he'd react given the scenarios. At the minium I think even having the next guest in a similar role/position review their match footage with a host, and give a "directors commentary" over what he was thinking/why he made a specific decision in matches. Great work getting him on!
did not expect him to speak this well.. damnnn. 🔥🔥
Really helpful, thanks unisport

Damn, makes sense why he’s so good. A lot of insight and wisdom in this video 🔥
Nice video . He is very intelligent. I play CM and I used to be naturally good defending and with age my (33) defending became worse (because I never worked on it it was a good part it my game) … now I’m gonna work on it according to this interview! Great advice Thanks

Thanks for that Ruben and uni sport I had a match just after your vid and I made a crucial tackle inside the box
He would make such a brilliant coach. Wow
Thank you for this video, great to hear from another pros frame of mind. But honestly, only with the conversation if a younger player were to watch this they will only begin to second guess everything they’re doing. His answers to your?s were all so infinite he to the possible variables. Which is true! But to help these younger players learn they need to hear more of a simplistic frame of mind from an elite player and then learn from their mistakes as he said at the end. Again thank you for the video
good questions by the presenter... introducing key terms and ideas and allowing for comparison
Awesome!!

I Love him, is very smart and i Love his voice

Taking tips as a forward
"they need one good action, you need one mistake" 🙌
The most improtant thing for a defender is "game reading" ,as a defender you should think like the attacker , like if i would be an attacker in that position right noe heere will i go , e.g i am being pressed from the centre , there is a man open on his left , so as a defender just go and stand with that man , or if you are already occupied with a man , tell a midfielder or another defender to mark him . 0:32
we can see that he has the qualities of becoming a manager one day
Great
Ur channel is great . One day I will become great footballer.
Altrincham FC .... such a good pitch
The last few lines were total brutal reality by dias , striker makes one good turn , or shoot he is glorified for the whole match , defender makes one mistake and he is shamed the whole match .
thats why imo defender >>>>> any attacking position
U did good not asking him how to defend in the air.. El Nesyri owns him up there.
Oof this is a class interview

True
Now we have understood defending. What to do? It depends.
I’m a left winger but I’m still gonna learn these tackling techniques because if the opponents are near the goal, I can help defend with my fellow defenders, this could be very helpful
if ur LWB or RWB aka wingback aren't you a defender? sorry new to football
@@roughysk9851 yes and LWB and RWB are considered defenders, but left and right wingers are forwards
the internet is so crazy that i can learn tackling from dias
The best defender in the pl and even the world
What a player
Everything he says then basically comes down to learn to be in control of the things you CAN be and don't worry too much about the things you CAN'T because there's always something you can't be in control of when your one on one against a good attacker , every situation has the possibility of unpredictability you can't train or practice for , you just have to be ready to react to sometimes So to have the best chance OF reacting correctly do the things you CAN do first, ingrain them in yourself in your training to always be reading the game and watching all around you Awareness Always know exactly where you are, your team mates are and the opponents are , where the space Is, where the space Isn't Also watch everything and conciously try to make little mental notes during a game of the opposition players and how they are playing and what they are trying on the day even when your not facing this player yourself ,remember if he is tending to use repeated moves against other teammates and talk to them in the game , communicate with your other defenders and pass on information Basically be switched on ALL the time If you know and do this you will have a better chance to be in a position to make the right reactive decisions in all the different unique situations you find yourself in a game or as he says "It depends" because these are the main things "It depends" on which are in YOUR control
