The Small Migration in Serengeti National Park

Serengeti National Park is famous for the Great Migration where well over a million Wildebeests and Zebras cross the Grumeti River around June, close to fancy overprices lodges, accessible by herds of tourists. And it is an amazing spectacle as fording the river creates a bottleneck they all have to pass, in addition to all the crocodiles and lions amongst other expecting them. However, you might not be aware of the fact that the migration is actually an ongoing process and the herd is basically constantly moving in a circle through Serengeti in Tanzania and Masai Mara National Park in Kenya, in search of greener pastures and rain. So, when I was visiting Serengeti in November I was lucky enough to catch the tail end of the migration happening at a small river crossing. The many options to cross make it spread out over a wider area. However, it was amazing to see how easily spooked the wildebeests still were, even at the small almost dry river with lots of visibility. I guess any river crossing during the migration must just bring up bad memories. For me, it was still a spectacular and unexpected sight to see.
