Danish troops firing with Caesar 8x8, the upcoming Danish self-propelled artillery system.
CAESAR (CAmion Equipé d'un Système d'ARtillerie) is a French 155 mm/52-calibre self-propelled artillery system produced by Nexter Systems. The 8x8 version is built on a modified TATRA chassis which is heavier than the original 6x6 built on Renault (French Army) and Unimog (export) chassis.
Denmark ordered 15 CAESAR 8x8 howitzers in 2017 to replace their aging M109A3DK self-propelled tracked howitzers.

It takes an average of 100 seconds from the moment the shell hits its target, it takes 12 seconds between each shot. It means that 8 shells are already in the sky at the same time to realize that you are targeted after the first explosion. A good artillery system. Reloads and fires under 30 seconds.... I am impressed...
2 minutes setting up the firing position, 1 minutes firing 6 shoots, about 30 sec to pack up and leave... and the 1st shoot strike the target about 30 sec later... so when trying to strike the firing position (targeting plus travel time of the payload), the artillery team already left about 3 minutes before

The FREMM only carries one helicopter while the Arleigh Burke carries two. I work for a state arms manufacturer. Long range mobile artillery systems are one of the company's core business activities in Lanward Systems. Whoever invents an alloy that can disperse heat under enormous pressure and won't warp or bend... Will be in instant billionaire. Heated Barrel changes are still the snag with long range artillery systems.
This rate of fire for a 155mm gun is impressive... and it has an accuracy of a few meters at a range of 40km. Really amazing !

You don't NEED to be in an armored cab when you OUTRANGE your opponents, and you'll already be leaving before most enemy artillery have a chance to react even if they COULD manage the range.

Not sure why so many dislikes....but this is a pretty sick system. The loading system is really nice for the troops. It saves them a ton of labor and back killing work.

So this system is linkable(xx guns firing and loading in sync), GPS targeting(any number of targets within a defined range and time table) and manual co-ord if needed. Not bad, didn't even know we were getting these. :o

Moi qui suit fan du ceasar 6x6 qui est une franche réussite, le ceasar 8x8 ne peut que me plaire d'autant plus. Je vois beaucoup de personnes qui calculent le nombre d'obus tirés par le 8x8 en une minute pour le comparer à d'autres systèmes. Mais faites attention, cette vidéo n'est pas un test des capacités de tir rapide du système ceasar en une minute. On voit bien que le chargeur à gauche face à l'écran de contrôle gère le chargement du canon par les bras robotisés. Comme c'est un exercice, il patiente et attend l'ordre du chef. En combat, le chargement pourrait facilement être accéléré.

about time!! I served my time in the danish artillery for 6 years on a M109 A3. And i believe that the Caesar is a very good choise..
It's too slow and the crew has to be out to shoot. So it's a new machine stuck in an old concept. I thought it was a joke when I read that the Danish Army would buy this. It's like buying F 104 into the Danish Air Force
Crew being outside while firing, isn't that big a deal... It is a problem if counter fire, is on hand, but then they have made the mistake of staying put to begin with. From what I have read about it, the system seems to deliver, and work. For the prize, and with enough training, this system is good.
Artillery is about to shoot as quickly as possible and then let 6 men run out of order. The haubits are old school. It seems that Cesar takes too long, but in Afgahnistan, it works because there is no enemy who himself has artillery to crash down. Although the Danes like the Norwegians decided to buy The Flying Frog F 35, they could not afford better artillery than this
I honestly doubt that rate of fire is the only priority of the artillery...
mag nus This artillery can fire 6 rounds a minute, I don't think it is slow... And by the way, being outside isn't a problem, in the sens that this canon can fire from 40km distance and can fire fast enough to be gone when the first shells land on their targets, meaning it is long gone when the enemy retaliation rounds come crashing down. And if you fear that a land attack carried out by soldiers on foot can endanger the men serving the Caesar whilst they are outside, well remember that this piece of artillery is suppose to be 40km away, so having such an attack would mean a massive error on the artillery crew's behalf. That said, Caesar is cheaper than a lot of other mobile artilleries, its wheels mean it can go faster and be lighter than tracked artilleries, and it can deliver its payload before retaliation. I don't see where Caesar is a bad artillery...

L'obus bonus à une portée de 40 kms, avec une charge supplémentaire, sa portée est de 60 kms, il peut détruire 2 cibles à la fois, avec 1 mètre de précision, autant dire que la cible est quand même détruite assurément ! Le nouveau obus Katana à une portée de 60 kms sans charge explosive supplémentaire... Caesar : Veni,vidi,vinci ! ( je suis venue, j'ai vue, j'ai vaincu !)

@@procprotoc co jsem četl v různých článcích i včetně armádního webu, tak by tam měla být klasická tatrovácká kabina s pancéřováním. Myslím že je ji možno vidět na Tatře Force. Takže provedení kabiny ve stylu stealth nebude. A nejspíše oproti dánům budeme mít automatický podavač nábojnic - nebude třeba ručně přenášet náboj na podavač :)

An equivalent is the swedish platform but it is far more expensive and less practical, and not armoured. There truly isnt anything to compare with the versatility, range and ease of use of this

wow,. this is the beast, hope my country will consider acquiring this, we already have m71 and ATMOS2000 but this one is really good.
Thing is there isnt really an equivalent yet elsewhere. The us aren't done prototyping equivalent systems and only sweden has such a wheeled system, but it is far more expensive and lacks armor- because they overengineered an auto reload mechanism. It is far more versatile than tracked howitzers, far lighter and versatile. And the range is truly amazing.
I am convinced. I will order one.

So 600km range, but a lot less than 20 million DKK per shot (reported price and range for the SM-2 ammo just purchased by the navy)?
On the old M-109, we had to wash the chamber using a long shafted broom and a bucket of water between shots. They did not fancy loading the charge with burning tinder in the barrel :-). This is faster, but the guy feeding the loader still needs to be strong. I believe the shells at that time was around 42 kgs.

@@vizender Not really. Archer loads automatically with twenty shells/charges stored in its 'magazine'. The crew just sit in the cab and press the big red Fire button. (There might be slightly more to it than that). But reloading those twenty rounds is easy. If you can lift a Caesar shell you can lift an Archer shell.
@@karlbassett8485 well my point is that to replenish a Caesar ready rack you see people just putting them in. All of the archer reloading I have seen were done with the help of another truck to act as a platform (maybe to not use the winch I guess ?)
Of the many mobile artillery systems seen on KZhead, the Caesar 8x8 has to be one of the smoothest and easiest to use. The older Crewed artillery systems where the shells are loaded, rammed and charged by hand are too slow, given the pace of modern battlefields. While the Caesar 8x8 undoubtedly costs more $$ per unit, its fast setup time and smoothness of operation can pay dividends in a fast-paced environment. Every nation’s defense agency has to be looking at efficiencies, as well as domestic politics, when purchasing artillery systems. But when you have one that works this well, you have to drop the pride or ‘buy domestic’ mantra and be pragmatic.
No way! Caesar is too slow to set up and get going. Look at the Swedish Archer where every thing is preloaded and automated and ready to go in literally seconds. Go look and learn. It requires less personnel too. It can scoot faster than Caesar literally and change battle position.

And it is fucking slow on the road, guzzle gas like if there was no tomorrow, and the armor has proven to be utterly useless in Ukraine, if not a worthening factor. If you add that it cost twice as a Caesar, then yes Archer is a failure and no country falled for it...
@@Raj-nh3fc i imagine the Archer System in Mali, the complex autoloader being full of sand after a storm. Meanwhile, during the Serval OPS, Caesar howitzers managed to drive 5000km from Abidjan to northern Mali and being fully operational

L’intérêt du Cesar est sa portée et sa précision ( 40 et plus km ) avec un obus a peu près « normal « et son prix très inférieur a un véhicule sur chenilles.Ce n’est toutefois pas un système a longue portée. Intéressez-vous a un certain Albert FONO et vous comprendrez ce que je dit ( obus à propulsion stato , brevet de 1915 ) Quel progrès depuis ? Faible !

Je pensais que le chargement était full automatic mais en fait non ! l’opérateur ne dépose plus son obus sur la civière de chargement à l’arrière mais sur un support d'attente pour qu'un bras face ce travail - L’opérateur approvisionne toujours les charges de poudre ...bref peu de changement par rapport a la version initiale en 6x6 en dotation chez nous !
Si plus de blindage, presque 2X plus d'obus et un nouveau système informatique
pour répondre je suis chef de pièce caesar et il y a quand même énormément de changement et de sécurité amélioré moins de charge lourde, la sécurité lié au chargement des modules(charge avec auto inflammation quand le tube est chaud) plus d emport des munitions ainsi que le blindage . apres s il fallait plus rien faire autant crée un robot sans hommes!! mais par rapport au 6*6 il dois quand meme etre un peu moins maniable et faurait regarder le chassis parce que renault fait pas du top qualité!
Le châssis pour la version 8x8 est un Tatra 815 tchèque.
Est-ce que le camion doit être pointé en direction de la cible ? Quelle est la tolérance pour l'angle entre le canon et le véhicule ? Je veux dire: il peut pas tirer à 90°, évidemment, si ? En opération, c'est un souci ?
Desi le canon ne peut pas tourné a 180° mais vue que la vitesse de déploiement et bien plus rapide que sur les artilleries blindé a chenille comme celle des Russe . D'ailleurs normalement la césar peux tiré et repartir se repositionner avant que l'artillerie russe est fini de se déployer.

There are howitzers with even more range that are armored. The CAESAR is simply aimed at low intensity conflicts.

Why didn't they make it so the CAESAR self-loads? Seems like we could do that this point instead of having someone manually load it..
Wow. The loading system is pretty cool. Seen the other ones where the soldiers are loading it by hand with a plunger pushing it in. This way takes less people to load and fire. But i wonder if under attack, how successible those loading arms are when damage.
If your artillery system is taking fire while shooting, you're doing it wrong.
That plunger system, sounds like you were watching the Americans operate their M777. That thing is very different. Its meant to be ultra light weight. This is a mounted gun system. Heck most modern artillery come with that kind of loader.
How come it doesn't change the directon. The barrel Supposed to be retired around.

The gun get points for the automation however if it fails, then the gun is screwed in counter battery situation so maintenance super important.
Almost every modern howitzer is fully automatic. However other companys manage to make it compact and more safe.
