For Anyone Who Needs A Break Watch This!

I think my younger self would have appreciated these words so hopefully it does something for you too.
Rest is not a luxury it is a necessity.
Rest is not a should it is a must.
Rest is essential for productivity and foundational for success.
These are not controversial statements and yet the vast majority of people disagree with this sentiment through their actions and the way they choose to live their lives.
I don't understand where the idea of rest = lazy came from. Or that rest means slowing down and doing nothing. This could not be further from the truth.
People at the top of their game such as athletes, philosophers, business leaders and teachers all understand that rest is a non negotiable. It is a must. In this video I detail 7 reasons why you should be taking regular breaks.

#rest #takingabreak #hardwork
• take rests whenever possible • half of you will die of a sudden heart attack or stroke ... what do you mean by "retirement" and "later"? ... rest now • take your rests now and therefore live longer • a rest is not unproductive it is the opposite • Pausen gehören zum Arbeiten dazu
You've got it! Bleib uns klug und standhaft! Ein Vorbild!
I work in software development and I feel like my team mates are working all the time. I've decided to only work the hours I'm getting paid for, whatever happens happens but I want to enjoy life outside work. Rest, be healthy and at peace with my life.
That sounds perfectly healthy and reasonable!
Somebody has to be a pioneer, I hope others will dare to follow your good example. Stay strong and happy, you sure are on the right track. Argue, if you must, with Finland as an example! Kudos from me, regrettably, foolishly, three times rather near burnout - and I don't wish it upon anyone. You are very intelligent and be proud of it!
Likewise. It can be a brutal industry!
@@kquat7899 Indeed, have your own sanity in mind and your physical health, too, as a counterbalance to all that sitting and staring at a screen! But with your IQ you can make a good plan and stick to it - can't you? All the best!
A programmer should write a program, doing his jobs, at least the repetitive administrative ones. And you are entitled to earn the profit from that. The creative job is 24/7 anyway. You can't turn off your head, take problems home, and the best idea you get on a hike or while having a shower. That's scientificly proofen. That's why being paid by the hour is pretty much nonsense.
Anytime I've had a real breakthrough idea that would have gone on to be a game-changer in my world of work - it's almost always happened when I was far far away (in every sense) from work.
Totally! I’m sure this is the case for most of us…and yet the way things are structure it doesn’t really allow space for this
Interesting video and a subject discussed quite often in the context of German work/life balance versus that here in the US. I'm terrible at relaxing in the traditional sense. I grew up on a dairy farm in a heavily German community in Wisconsin where the farming routine and attitude was pretty much "put on the harness and pull till you drop". I was a manager for much of my adult career in manufacturing and on 24 hour call, even on vacation. American culture does not champion the concept of rest. Point 3 really hit home with me though, and that was the resolution of a problem coming in quiet times after walking away from it for a while. That's worked for me countless times. I'm retired now and still don't rest a lot, but the variety of things I do does in a way provide rest because of their diversity. Alternating between remodeling work, fixing vehicles, playing guitar, studying language, cooking, etc. provides relaxation through the rotation. My working years were much like that and this is likely why I rarely felt 'stressed'.
Sounds like you’ve done a lot. Being on call 24/7 is something I never want to experience again. I found that really draining
smiles nice i find time for my sunday word again ... i would say its the eternal quiestion... work to life or life to work ... its always the balance which matters
In the old days, when monastries dominated the cultural life, the old Benedictine Rule " ora et labora " made a lot of sense. Regular breaks for contemplation did not hinder the result, but was a creative strength. Otherwise, there wouldn't have been so many hand crafted pieces of art in daily life.
Wise thoughts! I enjoyed your company! Thank you, Benjamin! 🙂
Thanks for the words of encouragement 😀
@@britingermany Keep it up, it will grow on many more people than me, for sure!
Thank you for this video. I needed it about a year ago (unfortunately it wasn’t there yet), but I still did pretty much all the steps you mentioned and found myself again. So I hope this video will help others!
Rest... Recently learnt more about the 8+8+8 Formula. Shocking how life online has actually now been skewed. Shame... 😄 Thank you for your insights & experience shared Benjamin
Thanks for watching 🤗
@bentoine Thank you. Love your content & voice ❤
Thanks for that technique
You’re welcome
I think I'm able to separate being productive from working long hours, doing a job in 4hours, where others need 8 hours, is my justification to deserve free time, not toll fill the other 4hours necessarily to not be called lazy. But this needs a lot of self esteem. Beeing a workoholic for 2-3 weeks is also OK, it just shouldn't be the schedule of your life. I'm just having difficulties to put "gone jogging" on my "achievement of the day" list. Cause there is not really a noticeable output. I think it's a mode change, from measure yourself by the hour vs. by output.
Yeah that’s great if you can give yourself a break. I think a lot of people find it hard to stop because they think they should be working. Even the self employed or business owners
@@britingermany Sleeping a night over a problem, or over a contract before signing it, is a german saying, to use the fresh mind in the morning. It's a little like step back and start over. There is no other way to "unload" the brain.
My guy is living in freaking Germany for sure you need a break mate!
🤣
A lot of the truth you are telling in this clip has been quite well-known for centuries, if not milleniums. But unfortunately such wisdom still finds it hard do enter a lot of people's minds. Many can't get rid of the silly notion that rest is something luxurious, frivolous or even idecent. Do you know the German formula "hektische Betriebsamkeit"? To sensible people - yes, also the Prussians among them - it's rather a vice than a virtue! And the term "workaholism" expresses very clearly that it is an addiction, something unhealthy and self-destructive, but what a perversion - even in mass media workaholics all too often get praised for their being busy so restlessly instead of told how stupid their behaviour is. Dear Benjamin - I hope this Sunday is treating you very well with the opportunity to enjoy the necessary (!!!) rest that it's basically meant to provide ... Have a delightful one full of relaxation, with our without "Tatort" in the evening!
Yes the idea of rest still hasn’t hit home for many. Wish you a great Sunday evening Torsten
Thanks a lot, Benjamin, I appreciate your quick and kind reply! 😊
