  • For anyone wondering why that Magpie was attacking that kid, its because it is currently spring over here in Australia. Which means it is breeding season, magpies swoop people if we get too close to their nests and they attack us to protect their babies and eggs. Quick FYI for all the non-Australians watching. :)

  • There are some magpies that attack people here in NZ too - I was advised to put two 'eye' stickers on the back of my bike helmet to deter them - never had the opportunity to test the theory though!     • I think they find kids an un-predictable threat so swoop them more often. Our neighbours kids get swooped in their backyard every year but the parents never get swooped. Plus you can befriend a magpie and it’ll swoop everyone but you. They are pretty intelligent.
