Mother Nature gives us the beauty. You certainly know how to show it to us.
Yes! 😍
Beautiful Phil!! It always makes me smile watching your videos, thanks for being real!!
Thanks, Larry! 😊
Hello Phil. Hearing the clickity clack of your 5/8” swept back bowl gouge cutting the corners off of this awesome piece of wood is music too my ears. The bowl is gorgeous, too. Sensational video as well. Take care. 😊
Thank you so much! 😍
P
Great to see you back turning again Phil. God Bless and love you my brother.
Thanks a lot, Jay! 😊
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop you are welcome
I look forward to every one of Phil’s videos.
😊
Your philosophical ethos of nature and how you relate to it with your wood turning is beautiful, Phil. This is yet another stunning art-piece you've so skilfully mastered out of an odd piece of wood, everything about this bowl is gorgeous. Take care of yourself and try not to over do it! Be safe, thank you for just being you, Phil! 💛🫂😊
Thank you very kindly, Sian! 😊
297th!! Well, maybe not that many. Hey, anyone can be 1st, you know! LOL! That is a beautiful piece, Phil. You never cease to amaze, buddy. With all the sharpening you were doing that must be incredibly hard wood. You certainly showed who the boss is, my friend. It didn't really have a chance once you got it into your shop. Great work! Thanks for sharing! Happy turning, .....Gord
Thanks a lot, Buddy! It was a lot of work and it was a lot of sharpening and it was worth the effort! LOL! Feel better, Gord!
I love that you follow your heart and let the wood tell you what it wants to be. ♥️👍🏻🇺🇸
The only way to turn, Jessi! 😊
Thanks Phil! Another beauty in the books!😃👍🏻👍🏻
😊
I mustsay Phil, You haven't missed a beat my friend! Glad you are feeling well enough to get back in the shop with such a tough piece! Came out beautifully I might add! Who knew we could go from a woodturning channel to a horror channel in a split second lol. That was funny.
LOL! I hope I didn't scare the kids and ladies away! 😊
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop Ha ha haa! I doubt it
I'm still laughing at the axe comment! You're a riot Phil! Excellent, excellent job my friend!! Glad you're feeling better. Blessings.
That is simply stunning, I would be so proud to own such a beauty.
Thanks a bunch, Colleen! 😍

Gawd, I love olive wood. Made my daughter's ring bowl out of it. Thanks, Phil!
😊
That turned out absolutely beautiful 😍
Hard to go wrong with Olive wood! 😍
That is absolutely gorgeous! You never disappoint!
😊
Oh my goodness, this one is gorgeous! It's so gorgeous that I'd put a photo of it on my wall! Wow!
Wow, cool, thanks, Gwynn! 😊
Phil is the Michelangelo of wood turning 😁 it was always there. He just removed the rough edges.
Cool, thanks, Archie! 😃
Holy cow, Phil…that is gorgeous! So much interesting to look at, and I wish we could all feel it. I especially like the circular grain where the branches were. Glad you’re feeling up to working in the shop. :) Take care, Marcia
Thank you, Marcia! 😍
I just love how you always make sure that mother nature is your most important thing that you capture. I'm always looking forward to your next piece of work. I myself will always take another wood turners artwork for reference to how I would challenge myself for my next project to make sure that something is left of nature. Sometimes it doesn't happen and you end up with a salad bowl. Then again some of those kind people want a fancy salad bowl. Either way happy turning my friend and it's awesome to see you in your element again. 😍 now it's time for me to get back to work.
Funny you should should say that, Edward. I'm working on a piece, now. Started out as a half log, then a live edge bowl and now it's a small dish! LOL!
that peace is gorges.... love ya Phil...
Thanks, Jack! 😍
You are the master of the natural bowl, Phil. Thanks for sharing.
😊
That’s absolutely beautiful, Phil. You never disappoint and this one is definitely outstanding. 👍🏻
😊
Phil, When the video started, I was thinking “No way he is going to get that to work”. Happily you made it work extremely well! Happy you are back! Best Wishes, Kevin. PS seen grands lately? We are sitting our 5 month old granddaughter. It’s fun to see them change when they are that small!
I like your post. When I first started watching Phil I thought the same thing. There's no way you can make that work. But I've learned that he always comes through. And he taught me how to make things work.
You're right, Kevin, they change quickly! 😊
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop you doing ok?
@@KevinCoop1 Much better, chemo is over! Just trying to get it all out of my system and take care of some side effects. Much improved!
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop That is wonderful news! I’m happy for you!
Another amazing natural bowl . So glad that you can show us how to turn these pieces.
So glad you're watching, Reg! 😊
Love your relationship and appreciation of the wood you work on and your desire to not fix the beautiful natural quirks of the piece.
Cool, thank you, Aliceray! 😊
Hi Phil nice to see you again, this olive wood looks really nice it's got some great grain and the nooks and grannies in it are awesome. The inside sure is beautiful, I could tell its a hard piece to turn I bet you had to sharpen your tools a fair few times. The colour of the wood is really nice. The trio edge crouch bowl is fabulous and the finish is great you have turned another masterpiece. I've really enjoyed this video and I've enjoyed you telling us what you are doing. Nature is great thank you Phil please take care from Amanda in Scotland xxxx
Thank you so much, Amanda, for taking your time to watch and, once again, for your great comment! 😍
Had to work hard to get that piece of olive wood looking nice, Phil. When I start roughing a piece like that, I use a well-swept back 5/8 bowl gouge and lower the handle so you get an easier slicing cut. I see you're using HSS bowl gouges. You'd be surprised at how much better an M2 or better yet an M42 or CP10V gouge stays sharp longer on hardwood. I love breaking the turning rules of leaving piths in. Those branches make the piece. Great job! Thanks for sharing.
My gouges are M2 steel and cost 1/4 that of M42. I can sharpen in less than a minute. Works for me, Greg! 😍
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop Get's the job done. I keep a few M42 gouges nearby for finish cuts. The price is steep so I don't want to waste them. My worst gouge is a Hurricane. It's just HSS and not M2. I question if the heat treatment was done correctly. It seems to not hold an edge very long at all. Happy turning.
Glad to see you running at full steam. 👍👍👏👏👌👌
Glad to be running at all! 😍
One of your best, Phil. One of many.
Thank you, Louis! 😍
I really love the way you look at pcs as art instead of useful items. It gives them a personality....and ALL your pcs have a personality
Thanks for that, Lyle! 😊
One does not think of trees in Las Vegas. The variations of color in this Olive wood are a favorite. Thank you!
😍
Yes Yes Yes if anyone could mount it and turn it then make it beautiful had to be you! Nice to see you back. Be well my friend. Dennis
Thanks a lot, Dennis! 😊
Good evening, Phil. Wowzer! I like everything about this bowl. Wood, check. Design, check. Sanding, check. Finish, check. Soft touch, check. Looks, check. Phil did an excellent job!? Keep your tools sharp. See ya next time my friend.
Tools are sharper than my mind, Ray, but I'm workin' on it! 😊
That is one gorgeous wild grained bowl. What a joy to see it develope
😊
Just beautiful like always Phil. I hope you are feeling better, and not just a good actor. Hope to see you again next Thursday. Thanks for another good evening.
Getting better every day, Albert! Thank you, looking forward to it! 😊
the Oberti family grew olives in the central valley of California for many years... in the 40's thru 70's the Oberti Olive company provided 75% of the olives and olive oil consumed in the U.S.A. and shipped there produces around the world.... during the 70's and 80's I saw those trees dozed down and burned... now as a turner the memory makes me want to cry... those old trees were quite beautiful...
Oh, man, now I'm crying, Jack! 😍
Phil it’s really good to see you turning. Hope you feel well.
😊
As always, thanks for teaching the art of the possible when it comes to bowl turning.
My pleasure, Mark, thanks for watching!! 😍
Wow! Perhaps the loveliest wood and work I’ve seen yet. The fact that I saw JFK in the grain has nothing to do with that. The beauty is intrinsic.
Wow, I missed him! 😊
Looks like a rose on the side. Beautiful piece!
It does! 😊
You had me at "Olive Wood" Phil. 😎
😊
olive wood is one of the most beautiful woods
No doubt about it, William! 😃
I love olive wood. Beautiful piece!

It's just the best wood, Pearl! 😊
Love it, love it, love it!!!!!
I'm glad, Kayla, thank you! 😊
Hi Phil just popped in to say how much I truly enjoy watching and listening to you. I think that I if I were not 69 years old that I would take up wood turning. Many thanks from Portsmouth on the south coast of England.
Funny you say that, Samuel. When I was 69 years old, I decided to get into woodturning. I bought my lathe and then wondered if I would get my money's worth out of it before I croaked. I have! I'm so glad I have it and I'm so glad I took up this hobby. It gets me out of bed each day! 😊
My that's a lovely piece. Thanks for sharing your art with us, Phil.
😍
Howdy Phil, great sharpening jig! Olive wood is so rich and beautiful. Can't wait to see this creation completed. 👍🏻♥️🇺🇸
Not long to wait, Jessi! 😊

Atrue inspiration praying for your full recovery
😊
Phil I had to watch your video again so I knew how to turn the piece I have. I was not real sure on how to mount my piece. After you got started I had to watch the entire video for more inspiration. I am ready to go turn my piece. Thanks for your help and guidance.
Glad it helped, Dave! Figuring out how to hold a piece is often the most difficult part. Enjoy your turning! 😊
As always, Phil you continue to amaze me and challenge me!!
😊
The chips at the start looked more like sparks. Gorgeous wood and a very cool bowl.
LOL! Felt like it, too, Shane! 😊
One of my favorites that you've turned!

Well you've done it again...another gorgeous bowl!!! The inclusion looks like a cave entrance to me with the bark. 😉
Cool! 😊
Beautiful! Agreed, left as nature intended is best… 😉🤗👍🏻
Absolutely!! 😊
Awesome. Hope your doing and feeling well. Glad to see your in the shop. For me it's the best therapy. I have been leaving a lot more of the natural edges lately. I guess you have inspired me. Thanks for posting the video I really injoy them.
That's great, thanks, Steven! 😊
You rock even without bark !
Cool, thanks! 😍
This bowl would make a perfect yarn bowl. It's worth a lot more that using for holding yarn while your knitting or crocheting, its just the type of tool most of us use to hold our yarn while we are creating something also. It's beautiful love all the wood grain
😊
Another great outcome - very beautiful
😊
That olive bo is amazing!!

Beautiful wood ❤️ Beautiful!

😁
❤❤❤, Phil! I absolutely LOVE watching your videos, I can't say that enough! I have a small crotchless h piece of Applewood that I'm going to do like you did for this piece of olive. Thank you so very.much for the videos, and the talking (teaching) that you do. I am eternally grateful to you. So glad that you are feeling better!! Take care of yourself!
That is awesome, Lori, thank you! 😄 I learned to turn by watching videos, too. I'm just imparting some of what I learned from those and my own experience I've learned along the way. I'm so glad it's helpful!
