I was confused about the origin of this wood. It turns out it is from the Blood Orange tree. This tree provides the blood colored oranges rather than the typical orange colored fruit. The piece turned in this video is from the stump of the tree. Finished in Shellac, it is 13 1/2" diameter and 5" deep.

I have a blood orange tree, the fruit is rather bitter than normal oranges my daughter in law loves it but I prefer true oranges. Your bowl is lovely even sweeter than the fruit. Love the free edge on it, mucho sweet❤️
Cool, thank you, Karen! 😊
Watched this a second time and saw that the bowl is shaped like a flower. It is gorgeous.
It IS! 😊
Yes I love it too! All the cracks & crevices give it character 👍
I'm glad you love it, Toni and I agree about the character. Thank you for taking your time to watch and comment! 😊

A blood orange is a delicious type of orange. If you get a chance to eat one they are very tasty. The bowl is as intriguing as the fruit. You and mother nature created an amazing work of art!!! 😊
Thanks for the info, Mary. I keep forgetting to look when I'm in the produce section. Maybe your comment will help remind me! 😊
Hi Phil when I make a bowl it’s a bowl. When you make one it’s a work of Art. Fantastic
Thanks, Allan! I just take advantage of the art already in there and try to preserve it rather than remove it. 😊
Phil I love all your pieces, but I think this blood orange bowl is especially nice. Great job. Three✔️✔️✔️’s for you.
Thank you so much, Michael! 😊 I agree, this one is special.

Great video and a beautiful bowl. Thanks, also, from all of us old geezers for not running music over your instructions. It's hard enough to hear without the music overriding everything. Please keep up the good work.

Beautiful piece! "Good looking" says my computer. I like the subtle colour contrast and the floral form.
Thank you! Cheers! 😊

Fruit wood is very dense. You did an excellent job. Beautiful piece.

Me too, Teresa! 😊
Phil; the master of weird wood. If no one else will tackle it, give it to Phil, he'll make a master piece out of it. Another good watch Phil.
Haha, thank you, Dan, for your great, "pick-me-up" comment! 😊

Thank you, Douglas!
Very interesting and challenging chunk of wood. But you once again did well with it, producing a very nice final shape. Luckily it is big enough to support those thicker walls. My wood arrived Wednesday, thank you again!
Thank you, Valerie! I hope there is something you can use that you haven't seen before but that's not likely with the amount of wood you seem to be able to come up with. 😊
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop well,..... the small piece does seem to be a mystery so far! Walnut and juniper should be fun to turn!
@@valeriehenschel1590 The small one is Olive! It will be beautiful!
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop Wonderful. It should smell really good on the lathe!

That is a wonderful bowl. Unique and elegant.

Another winner Phil! I’ve commented before about your commentary, how it ties your intended results with the end product. I feel that is where a lot of education occurs. I still think you can hear me, Again I had the thought that “you may want to try ....”. You’re really good, I couldn’t even get the complete thought out before you changed tactics. Keep turning brother!
Thank you, Scott! Next time don't stand so close, I could feel you breathing down my neck! LOL! 😊

This is a very unique bowl. Beautiful!! God bless and Love from Mississippi, USA.
😊
Another beautiful piece of work. I turned my first bowl the other day. I can’t wait till the day that I can make something as beautiful.
Good for you, Lee! With the first one under your belt, the rest will be easy-peasy! 😊
Well, the first attempt didn’t go as planed. I got a bad catch and sent it flying and it cracked. The next attempt went much better. It was a small live edge bowl made from Chinese Tallow. A friend came by today and fell in love with it and said it would make a great candle holder, I gave my friend the bowl. I’m working on my fifth bowl now, White Oak. Keep up the beautiful turning that you, you are the one that really inspired me to get into turning, but it may take a little time before it’s easy peasy.
Awesome job Phil very nice piece.
Glad you like it, Michael, thank you! 😊
So bloody beautiful. Carsten Sweden
