Efficient Copper Farm Tutorial with General Mob Farm | Minecraft 1.17 (Java Edition)
New in Minecraft 1.17 is Copper! You can mine for it with fortune or farm it from Drowned with looting. The trick is to get as many Drowneds as possible. Lots of players make general mob farms and there is one useless mob that only drops rotten flesh.... the Zombie! In this tutorial, I'll show you how to convert a general mob farm so you can sort the Zombies and convert them to Drowneds which drop copper ingots. This farm will get a boost in 1.17.1 when the drop rate for copper increases. This farm can be built anywhere, you don't need an ocean, river or monster spawner which makes this farm very flexible. As we're building a general mob farm, you also get other useful drops such as bones, gun powder and string. In 1.17.1, this farm will produce 4.5 stacks of copper per hour.
This is designed for Java Edition 1.17+

You can build this in a snowy tundra or something if you want to get more copper in exchange for less skelly spawns, since 80% of skelly spawns will be strays, but strays can't spawn under a roof, and so it gets rid of 80% of skelly spawns.
Yesss!!! We're back to logic's tutorials!! I really love them and your series: Dissecting Minecraft really made me understand redstone properly!
Great farm, Logic! I like the mob separation, and drowned conversion. I feel that with some minor modifications, this general mob farm works to use looting 3 on any single mob, or drop all the mobs with the drowned, and loot them all. I appreciate how much work you put into making the game mechanics clear for us. Thanks Logic!
Excellent tutorial. This is what I've been missing! By the way, I love it that you call them "top slabs" and "bottom slabs."
Incredible farm man, thank you so much
Very informative as always. Learnt alot!
Thanks Logic! I was considering building gnembon's build BUT I don't currently have a general spawner near my base anyway and this seems like it'll give plenty of copper for my needs :D
You can also use the separation mechanism with some powdered snow and a cobweb to get a stray farm, for those arrows of slowness👍🏻
Thanks for this, I'll be needing A LOT for my build, I'm making like a ancient civilization, using a mix of sand (maybe end) stone and copper, so I'll need this.
this is a REALLY cool farm, logic!
Nice job Logical! I appreciated the skizz and pearl cameo.
Logicals tutorials are always so easy to follow, great job. i hope for a next one a tutorial for an easy shulker shell farm that doesnt need portals and transporting a shulker to the overworld :P
Brilliant design as always Logic!
Awesome as usual! Thanks Logic!
So many nuances of mobs to take advantage of means I'm not doing that work, someone else will. Your farms are great but a lot of work in survival. Good seeing you put out some content. Hope you are well.
you'r best logic,just keep good work.tumbs up
Wow. Great work. Thanks for the great quality content. I just wonder what real usefulness Mojang has in store for copper ore aside from building!
Brilliant! Thanks for sharing Lovely.
Very cool! I didn't know you can convert zombies into drown! I need to do some more research on the things I've missed over the years of absence.
5:12 Some of the most informative mob features I never knew. Thank you!
You called the baby drowned....Poppy?! Well... ok then! But anyway, thank you so much for providing this tutorial! I will definitely use it!! ♥
Thanks Logic, as always I appreciate your tutorials; they are always super helpful and you explain everything perfectly. With regards to using spawners, they can be greatly buffed with the zombie reinforcement mechanic and can actually end up being worthwhile. I’m currently experimenting in survival after watching Gnembon’s video on it. Also, I had an issue that baffled me where it seemed sometimes the converted drowned were suddenly immune to being pushed by water streams. I thought it was a bug but then the suddenly they all moved at once. Turns out (after an embarrassing amount of head scratching) that it was related to daytime. If the sun came up, they behaved normally. The farm is below sea level, which I heard you mention being an issue. So am I correct thinking that if my farm was higher up in the world this behaviour would not occur?
Brilliant as always! Hope you’re doing ok 🙏
After so long a tutorial!! I know its hard for you to do everything but we need more simply minecraft uploads!! Thank you logic! ❤
He did say he is taking some time off and uploads will be slower for a little while.
A simpler one would be to just take a zombie spawner and convert the spawned zombies to drowned, but it would be a low slower than this for sure
I actually built this farm finally on my own world and it took me like 3 days of 3/4s no-lifeing every day XD insane build, just probably make extra materials because lots can go wrong :) Also i should note that make sure you know how big the spawning platforms are because i had to rebuild all 10 of mine for them being 1 block too small in all directions o.O
Loved the mob names after fellow Legates! :D
Legend! Thanks!
thanks for another amazing video, logic
gnembon's reinforcements copper farm i think has the best copper rates but your mob sorting system is very nice!
I build a similar mob farm but I sorted out the zombies with a villager. The skeletons and creepers run away from a cat and a wolf. But my design was not as effective as yours. I also build honey blocks on the side of the water stream so the zombies slow down and drown faster. Thanks for your help, I will build your sorter in my farm.
Haha, Lime and Poppy. I might just have to build this one!
I can't explain how much useful information in the video
this helped me alot with building my really compact version! for a whole day in creative :)
lmao
Woah, I'd love to make this farm. Might also attach a stray converter to the skeletons tube just for the slowness arrows.
Heya, So my problem with this was the one that spawned with leather boots. If you found a solution I'd love to know!
@@MayBeYouTubin hmmm that's a good question. Perhaps you can force them to path find away from the powdered snow trap into another drop shoot. For example placing a dog beside the powdered snow trap and an opposite exit one block higher. Those with leather boots will be scared and jump off the snow into a separate system where you can perhaps install a tripwire and piston to push them into a separate tube that could redirect into the same killing chamber. Those without boots will just continue to sink even though the dog is there.
Ahh nice thanks for sharing!!!
I really needed this
Thx 🙏 you are the best 😊
Such a great farm!
If you use Spiderwebs and powdered snow you can also convert the skeletons into strays and farm arows of slownes If you want
*sight* time to build another great farm on my friends server EDIT: also thx for putting up a world download^^
I actually designed a spawner based drowned farm, without using the giant wall of water. I stacked zombies up and send them in batches into water, and then they drop down into the killing area. This is a bit more efficient it seems.
I love these tutorials espically the item list but can i suggest one thing at some point even like last part of video can you add like a raw ingredient list so we know how much of what we need to mine to make these wonderful farms
Something seems sus about this...!
I mean…. thanks for helping!
I know this is probably obvious but it is a good idea to make sure your sheltered from phantoms in the kill chamber so phantoms wont attack you if your afk over night
Perhaps for better rates you could send the drowned from the farm to the nether, after afking for some time your nether kill chamber should be filled due to not have having the mob cap, I do not know if this is faster, just a suggestion
Anyone else had some of the creepers getting separated with zombies and skeletons? I added a lava source to the far corner of the 3x1 drowning chute and zombies eventually pick up the gunpowder creepers drop, so no problem there. Sometimes witches get in there but they manage to drink a fire resistance potion before they die, this farm works really well otherwise! Edit: I'm playing on a paper server so that might be the reason for some creepers and witches getting separated.
Is it worth it to add the drowning chamber to my mob farm in the desert? Since it has lower rate of zombie(husk) spawn and requires an extra 30 seconds to convert into drowns.
Thanks Logic!
I have this built, and everything is working great, except I’m getting a ton of spiders in the box with the water stream that flushes them all out to the killing chamber below. The spiders are just hanging out on the walls. I know he said to put trap doors in the last layer of the mob farm above this chamber, but any tips on keeping the spiders from collecting here?
You can use a sweeping edge sword and a mine cart to avoid the thorns as well. Bonus, your sword won't take any damage.

But I dont get the copper ;-(

Imma use this
Can I use solid block for the water source on the floor instead of slab and use tinted glass on top of water source. This way I can block out the light. If I can block out the light this way, do I still have to have such a big roof? Thanks in advance.
How do you get your zombies to fall in the 3 wide water so slowly, mine seem to fall through the flowing 3 wide water to the 3 signs at the bottom sooo much faster causing more zombies then drowns to get through
This could easily be combined with a skeleton to stray converter using powdered snow right?
What's the recommended y level for the first layer I dont wanna end up building it too low to the ocean or too high to the build limit
I built it. If you want the lowest part (the Magma Blocks to be on grass level of your world, then go up 44 levels from the grass level and start building your first floor. Right now, the water doesn't seem to push the mobs hard enough to the center, but I have completely built out the entire Copper Farm. This takes over 8 hours of building on survival, so grab you a drink.
@@billyredmon103 what y level is "grass level" do you mean sea level or like y-70?

Dude why are you so underated???
This is so epic! Mob sorting is def something revolutionary! I’ll definitely try and implement this once my server upgrades to 1.17!
Love your videos please make an stone farm in block by block tutorial 😟😟😟
So If I wanna make my general mob farm in a perimeter, will it make the farm unusable? Because the drown will pathfind since it would be below sea level?
Can you add the zombie reinforcement module with that? That's gonna make it a monstrous farm!!?
I love that the zombie and skeleton are named skizz and pearl ahaha
Shoutout to slicedlime & Poppy 🤣
can you do a Q&A video?
Do you need to build all the slabs above it if you’re building this underground ?
Am a little confused on the observer clock. I’m not a big redstone person so I don’t really know the correct orientation
If you were to filter out the spiders, and feed the drowned back into the farm, you could drop everything full height onto a hopper, put a honey block on a sticky piston and you could have a toggleable afk/looting xp farm
It's done this way because of Looting. Killing the drowned with a Looting III sword will increase the copper ingot drop rate.
@@CinemaSight If you were to make a toggle, you could leave it running and collect drops while you did other things in an area is what I was suggesting. Rather than building a second mob farm somewhere.
I see what you're saying. It would require something to close off the valve into the drowning chamber and that might be difficult with the current iteration.
@@CinemaSight it would be more like immediately separating them running them through a sluice and back (honey blocks on the floor are great for making it short) and then just down and back into the same fall pit.

Hello gigs and nerds 😍😍 simply minecraft is back?
He logic I am just wonder how efficient would it be if I did a spawner one with like 4 spawners cause on the server I play on there is a plug in for a 50 percent chance for spawner to drop I have a bunch.
How feasible is it to convert the skeletons to strays using powdered snow and drop them down the same chute as the converted zombies?
is there anyway to stop fish spawning? they block up the zombie's sometimes, i have to go under the wall piece and kill them manualy
so does pack spawning work for every mod? i thought it was only creepers
What are the rates for copper if we can’t build the part with a water source above sea level?
WAit im requesting a tutorial of the raid farm in the end
Who else was shocked watching this on ur recommended screen?
What is the slabes called which he used in his video please tell me
Imagine if there were several skeletons wearing feather falling and frost walker boots. These might take up some of the mobcap. If I were you, I would move the player further away from the magma blocks so there is a chance that they despawn every game tick
Maybe you could replace magma blocks with soul campfires
Aw heck yeah!
Did anyone measure the rates of gunpowder for this farm? Just built it and want to put a sugar cane farm next to it for rockets, that matches the gunpowder output. (I cannot measure it myself, because my perimeter is not dug, yet.)
Love your builds and wish I could follow along and build it with you but it’s just to fast which makes it a bit complicated. Wish you could actually do a block by block tutorial which would make it easier to follow along.
I pause it and replay it (a LOT) - also turn the play speed down - it becomes easier to keep up.
Hi Logic (or anyone). I built the farm. I found I had to slow the zombies down a bit more to convert them before their final fall into the kill chamber. I used cobwebs on top of cobble walls and a water source at their head level. It works. Question though is I have killed easily 500+ drowns from this farm with a Looting III diamond sword in version 1.17.1 and have not gotten a single copper drop. I only get a ton of rotten flesh, armor and the occasional gold ingot but no copper. I turned off the disposal system to see all the drops. Do you have any thoughts on what could be going on?
you sure your on 1.17.1? drowned used to drop gold ingots i believe but that got changed to copper recently
@@georgehartnagle2658 It turns out the MoreMobHeads mod my kids like to have on our server was not upgraded so it was overriding the loot tables back to 1.16 which explains why I was not getting the copper drops. Once I upgraded that mod I started getting copper drops. Thanks.
Damn copper farming is hard !!!!!! But good farm regardless
What are the rates for all drops other than copper?
is anyone else having issues with the spiders not falling onto the magma, but instead some keep trying to climb back into the spawning platforms. so after a while its basically a mob switch since there are so many spiders attempting to climb back up. and im too close for them to despawn i believe
I built the farm on difficulty hard over an ocean. It's kind of only a third as efficient as shown in the video. Does anyone have any tips on how I can make the farm better?
P,s love your tutorials
I've had some issues with this, and figured I should let you know what I've learned in case it's helpful for you to know: While a great tutorial, this farm turns out to be pretty broken, actually. Especially in survival mode. I've noticed that when creepers get in the system, they have a tendency to explode everything and break the farm. This happens most in the drowning chamber and the looting area. Additionally, the many odd extra areas around the water channels often catch mobs and cause pileups of them just hanging around in those pockets. You also lose a lot of zombies by dropping them out the bottom of the farm with other mobs, and when skeletons get in the system, they tend to shoot the snow golems. This is part of why snow golems go missing, but also because they are pinned so close together that they damage each other just by throwing snowballs at the zombies. Spiders also like to stick around in the farm on the walls and ceiling so they don't get washed away, thereby affecting the spawn rates negatively. The rates are not very good. I'm still playing around with stuff to try and get that working more efficiently, but so far I've added a couple of mob sorters to weed out the remaining skeletons and creepers (and occasional witch), and I keep messing around with the reinforcement area to try and get that working best without allowing for those pileup pockets. Not perfected either of these, yet, as it seems that mobs are not always reacting as they should to cats and dogs (sometimes they charge right at them, which is odd). I don't know if these issues were caused by some update, or what, but doing my best to find solutions.
ran this farm for hours and worked perfectly for me and good rates for a copper farm with extra drops

I built to specifications, but the zoms were getting caught on the magma block/soul sand elevator. I raised the magma block one and put a sign under it and everything seems to be working again.

is there an alternative to sea lanterns? struggling to find them in my hc world and silk pic close to breaking
Any other block. The sea lanterns are to light things up
@@PilotSteak so jacko lantern would be fine substitute
Mojang didn't think too hard about zombie and skeleton heights. A zombie is shorter than a skeleton, but a skeleton is basically a zombie without skin, the skeleton should be shorter.
Who said the skeletons and zombies are from the same species? Maybe zombies are former humans and skeletons are a different species.
Can I use zombie spawners to do this?
That moment when you built it too low and realize only at the very end that you are going to have to move the whole thing up....
Let me guess... by One block?
It is beneficial to build this farm in Tundra Biome since there you have less skeletons and more zombies
Thundra Biome
Can you explain as to why there are less skeletons in tundras? Does it have something to do with strays?
@@xTetsu Same mechanic as with Husks. Strays need direct skylight and 80%skeletons in tundra are strays so generaly you will get less skeletons since they can't spawn uder the roof and the mobcap will be filled with other types of mobs
@@nervouscz4508 Ah, that makes a lot of sense. Never really did anything with husks and strays, so I didn't know that one actually. Although, it's true that there are only a few zombies in deserts at night. I just thought that everything spawns as skeletons/zombies but 80% get converted before they spawn or something like that. Good to know that if you remove sky light access you remove 80% of the mob altogether. Thanks a lot for telling me this! :D
I decided that your logic made sense. I built this in an Ice Spike Biome since it follows the same spawning rules as the Tundra Biome. My rates for this farm suck though because the mobcap is somehow shared on my Realm. Farm works great when I'm the only one online though.
It's been over a year since I have played. When zombies convert to drowned do they still drop all their gear or do they hold onto it?
Apparently, they drop their gear and then the new drowned can pick it back up.
Redstone line only goes 15 blocks So to connect the entire square you're going to have put an extra repeater on some corners
Thanks for this. I am 8 stories up now and decided to test the circuit. Found out it didn't reach all the way around. (Y)
Can anyone tell me if I am able to build many of this and put them together?
Impressive work but im afraid mining with a fortune pick is just simply faster.
On the spawner one, how did you get the mobs to fall so slow? my mobs fall too fast to become drowned
Same here. There's a comment below from thebeaz2: "I found I had to slow the zombies down a bit more to convert them before their final fall into the kill chamber. I used cobwebs on top of cobble walls and a water source at their head level. It works." Another comment, from Robert Treder: "I found the mistake I was making was that the 3x1 water column that the zombies sink in needs to be all water source blocks (i.e. it's not enough to just break the temporary blocks at the top and let the water flow down). After fixing that, it works as advertised."
