I love the era clothing dress it almost everyday with trousers, suspenders, band collar shirts, waistcoat(vest) hat and boots. I took a lot of inspiration from Captin Woodrow F. Call...
Great!
My friend is making a lot of easy money by selling pictures of salmon dressed in human clothes. It’s like shooting fish in apparel.
That joke rings true on a large...scale.
"clothes have been killing since their inception" Especially when your clothes were on another creature.
True!
These stiff collars you mentioned in 2:24 are called "Vatermörder" in German. That translates into "Murderer of the Fahter", because they where so dangerous.
No kidding!?! Wow! Thanks.
@@ArizonaGhostriders And then, even if your shirt collar didn't kill you, you had the shirt cuffs made out of celluloid, that could catch fire like nobody's bussines. I own a pair, and whenever I wear them I make pretty sure to be well away from handling any flame... but "back then", every respectable male was SUPPOSED to smoke, so...
Yup!@@notfeedynotlazy
Ah yes, Arsenic and -Old lace- Coal tar mixed into your (at the time) New lace. Lends all new meaning to the expression, _"It's not easy being green."_ 💚 Happy Halloween to you, Mrs. Santee, and the rest of the Arizona Ghost Riders. May the Spirits mistake you all for one of them and leave you alone on All Hallow's Eve.
Well said! Thank You!
Nice one. The university that I attended had a dress code so strict I thought it would kill me too! Ya’ll take care!
Wow!
Great episode, Happy Halloween to Mr. & Mrs. Santee, and to all the folks at the Arizona Ghost Riders. JT & Jo-Ann
Thank You!
My father had asbestosis from being exposed to asbestos at the Railroad. Great seeing Mrs Pew Pew on your side of the camera for a change.
Ugh! I bet that was rough. Mesothelioma is another bad result of asbestos exposure.
Pew-Pew! :)
@@ritashuff7136 love that
@@ArizonaGhostriders Sadly my grandad had Mesothelioma and died from it as he was exposed to asbestos for over 30 years of working in a factory that had asbestos in it. Just after my grandad died, the factory was torn down due to the asbestos and how unsafe it was.
@@DynamixWarePro Sorry to hear it.
As always an excellent video. Now I am not only paranoid of the shadow people but now I wonder if they are on fire too, I best go hide under the bed....Happy Halloween
HAHAH! Take care.
A friend and I were just talking about the origin of the mad hatter yesterday. Thanks Santee and Misses Santee. Pew pew!!!
You're welcome
Pew-Pew!
The long fancy dresses took the life of my maternal grandmother, she was coming down the stairs carrying a kerosene lamp and tripped on the dress and tumbled down the stairs severely burned over most of her body. She gave instructions to the older children and then passed away.
Wow!! That's awful. However, it's a great family story.
OMG, they must have been so uncomfortable... with the heavy clothes, corsets, health issues, heat, hygiene problems. YIKES... Thanks so much, Santee. I always love the topics, and the audio, visual accompaniments. 👏🏻🤠👏🏻
I found numerous articles in period newspapers that confess about how uncomfortable corsets were. One even suggested "injurous"
Santee, Best Old West content on you tube. Happy Westoween. You and your family have a beautiful and blessed weekend.
Wow, thank you!
I hope Mrs. Santee is carrying silver bullets for that "pew, pew". 😄
LOL!
:)
WOW! The things we do and did to “Look good” is just crazy. Love the shirt! Happy Halloween! 🎃👻
Thank you! You too!
I've missed the "pew! pews!" Glad they're back 😏
Thank You!
Pew-Pew! Busy with teaching and tutoring. :)
@@ritashuff7136 Doing God's work, therefore understandable! 🙂
Santee this was a goodn’. Just came back from DC and a visit to the Natural History Museum and got to see some of the stuff you covered in this. Pretty cool to see the difference in perspective. Your telling is so much better; however the relics from yesteryear’s in person was something else! Awesome work good sir and ma’am please keep it coming!!
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks
Have happy and save Halloween Mr and Mrs Santee. That dude in the video I guess is why they were so obsessed in teaching us stop, drop, and roll in grade school. This has served me well in the almost 49 years of my life and the 0 times my clothes have caught on fire. 🙂
Right!!!
Thanks Santee, hope you have a great Halloween as well. My costume for this year is going to be Lee Van Cleef from Bad Man's River.
Have a great one!
Clothing fashion to die for.
Yep
There were so many dangerous things in the past it's surprising we survived. Hatter used human urine as part of the felting process. Mercury was used by those with STDs and would appear in their urine. So some of the urine used by hatters would have mercury in it. In the Victorian period a young woman was forbidden by her father from smoking but did so anyway. One day she was smoking when her father unexpectedly walked into the room and not wishing to be caught by her father she quickly put her hands behind her back. The cigarette touched her dress and caught fire. She was quickly enveloped in flames and she died in the fire. During the Medieval period most people wore clothes which were made from wool as this would help keep them warm. The problem was that if they fell into a river or lake the wool quickly became waterlogged and the person would drown. Happy Halloween to yourself and Mrs. Santee. Nice to see her in front of the camera.
Interesting accounts.
I found this interesting from the book I read there was a town called Tom's River, New Jersey. That had a dye factory for clothing. Now due to the pollution in the ocean, from this factory, there was a rise of cancer cases. I met the investigative writer who helped the town sue the lead company who owned the factory. That was back in high school. People were literally born with cancer in this town.
Ugh!
The clothing back then would’ve been the introduction of chemical dyes. Some green dyes in the old west were made with arsenic. As a book collector, one such dye was used in books from the 19th century. Word of advice from a book collector, buy at your own risk.
@@austinwhite4626 Yeah, that green was a killer!
💛...nuttin' betta than a santeen halloween...
Thank You!
Killer episode Santee!
Thank You!
Apparently there is a theory that Napoleon Bonaparte was killed by his green wallpaper.
Interesting.
Swagg has always been in style❤
OK!
Santee! El Cabeza del Queso mas Grande! Great show!
HAHAHA! Muy divertido!
Very cool episode. Thanks Santee and Mrs.santee 😊
You are so welcome, Ralph!
Another great video, Santee!
Thank You!
Watched this much earlier but didnt get a chance to comment so rewatched. Each generation has something with their clothing . As a kid we wore uncomfortable crynolines under our skirts to school . Girls were not allowed to wear slacks at the time . Eventually that changed especially were I come from minus 40 in the winter and occasionally below was not uncommon . I wonder what they'll find out about the clothes we currently wear way off in the future . Great video Keep Safe❤Keep Well ❤
Thanks for sharing that with me!
triple pews!!!!! 😁🤠
Yes
Pew-Pew!
With clothing catching fire, this is a sad event that happened in my family. One of my 2nd great-grandfather's was a farmer and blacksmith. He married in 1899 and had two children in 1900, twin boys. His wife died after giving birth to them leaving him a widow and looking after the two babies on his own. He remarried just over a year later to my 2nd great-grandmother. When he had to work, he left his children in care of a neighbour who would look after them. One day, when she was supposed to be looking after them, she had left the house for a brief period and left the boys in the kitchen. When she came back, she found one of them on fire as his nightdress had caught fire. She tried to get his clothes off and stop the flames. It took a while as they lived on the side of a mountain, but she managed to get a doctor to her house. When the doctor arrived he tried to help but but not much could be done to save him at the time and he died a few hours later. He was only 1 year and 8 months old. There was a coroners inquest and a police investigation into what happened. It was deemed an accident and she was exonerated from any wrongdoing. My 2nd great-grandfather had remarried to my 2nd great-grandmother a few months before this happened, so I am wondering where she was at the time.
WOw! Thanks for sharing.
Another very interesting and entertaining episode! We really got spoiled with the 'pew-pew' in this one! I love it! !!!
Thank You!
Pew-Pew! :)
I caught myself on fire a couple years ago with grinder sparks. Thankfully I tore my shirt off before the flames really started to blaze.
Wow!! Glad you didn't turn into a torch
@@ArizonaGhostriders I learned not to wear those cheap polyester work shirts anymore.
@@TylerSnyder305 I bet
My mind wanders to the wool pants, vests and frock coats worn by the Earps in Tombstone, in the summertime. Seems like a sure killer to me. I'm guessing flipflops, short shorts and Hawaiian flowerdy shirts had not been invented yet?
Correct they weren't invented yet! The Tombstone thing was actually in October, right after a light snow, so it would be OK weather for the frocks.
Your killing me here Santee, Happy Halloween to everyone at Arizona Ghostriders
lol!
GREAT JOB SANTEE !! I KNOW OF SEVERAL GALS THAT BROKE RIBS WHILE WEARING A CORSET .. WIFE USED A TRAINING CORSET .. WHICH TOOK ABOUT A YEAR TO SHAPE HER BODY !! AFTERWARDS SHE HAD TO EAT VERY LITTLE FOOD AT ANY TIME AND MOSTLY SOUPS ! NEVER UNDERSTOOD THAT ONE ! WELL YOU HAVE A GREAT TIME !! SEE YOU ON DOWN THE TRAIL !
Ouch!!! Yeah, Mrs. Santee wore a corset for the shows we did. She thought them to be uncomfortable. Many articles I read from the period said "uncomfortable" and "Injurous."
Another awesome video!!! Catching up today ❤❤❤❤
Hope you enjoyed it!

I’ve read historical accounts of women who were burned to death because of their dresses. Some of them, the wives, sisters, or mothers of famous historical figures. It was pretty awful!
Yeah, it is. Horrible way to go!
Happy Halloween Santee & the Missus. Great presentation as usual. Saturday would not be a Saturday without receiving an out of sight video.

And when the well-to-do couple had finished getting dressed in their flammable, poisonous, constrictive clothes to go to a social event, they made sure the little ones would behave by giving them their tablespoon of children's shoothing syrup with its delicious mix of alcohol, cannabis, chloroform, and morphine.
