Flying the classic Schulgleiter 'SG' 38 in Eutingen im Gäu "EDTE".
We present it there once a year for the "Mobile Legenden" classics Festival & Airshow. It's an absolute pure feeling of gliding compared to modern gliders. Flying long distances/ cross country for me is a challenge and I love it, but with the SG38 its a short but awesome time to enjoy.
Reasons why I flew with the suit is cause I came back to the airport after grandmas birthday and decided to fly it dressed like I am - plus a cylinder. The lion of my little sister was obviously hungry for a ride too so I took him with me.
A big thank you to all the people around helping me and my dad aero towing me up.
Everything filmed with GoPro Hero 4 black & silver.
I usually use the settings 1080S with 30fps or higher. Wide just in one clip I had it accidentally on narrow.

Riding bare foot through the sky with nothing but a piece of wood between your legs... That's how witches must have felt...
sometimes i have wood between my legs.. but i am not flying..
Pillar and stones alike
They felt something else too
@@massinakmin8340 haha!
You know why witches never wore underwear while flying their brooms? Better grip!
I can say with 100% confidence that I would not have this level of chill if I was thousands of feet high on a piece of wood.
I find that endless people who showcase a total lack of height fright whatsoever somehow don't belong to human race.
I need to constantly remind myself just how strong wood is. I have an aluminum boat and a fiberglass boat, but both motor mounts are wooden. Wood is amazing... incredibly strong yet flexible. Alternate grain directions and you can make anything.
@@anonymoose1898 Depends what sort of wood you are talking about, wood varies in strengths and densities.
wood-sticks are used for lifting and moving several tons heavy machinery.

Apparently more than the hats he's lost
Imagine crashing with no shoes, OUCH
How many

The top hat is actually his crash helmet.
Just a little cushion for the fall
That is funny Michael!
Those are the coolest gliders I've ever seen. I want one. I love low tech/high effectiveness. Looks sturdy to me. I trust wood more than aluminum. Great video, guys.

The Schulgleiter glider does look steampunk, varnished wood and even instrument column. Very unique, I flew in a modern confined glider and it wasn't comfortable like that model looks.
I love what you're doing... Its how I imagined being able to fly as a kid. You're literally living a dream. Just be careful. Check those cables every flight. Don't get too cocky. I don't want to be watching you on LiveLeak.

That is as pure a form of flying as one can get.
Search for paramotor is maybe even more cool.
Wingsuit basejumping.
Yes it certainly is
From when Flying and Falling became same thing .
@tyvek05 Well, one could argue that freefalling isn't really flying.........and even with a wingsuit it is more akin to controlled falling.

Balls of steel. well done 👍

I have to be careful going to the bathroom at night. This guy has no fear what so ever! Amazing!!
Genuinely impressed that what looks like a very basic piece of equipment kept this guy's balls airborne.
Hahaha.. right? Was it mandatory to be barefoot , kind of gross
Woow! Näher kann man wohl kaum an das Gefühl heran kommen das Flugpioniere wie Otto Lilienthal gefühlt haben müssen. Atemberaubende Bilder! 👍
Now that is flight in it's purest form. Cheers from western Canada.
There are many forms of aviation and gliding I would partake in before this.
The craziest ultimate adventure ever!!! This is insane. Wowww !!!
Absolutley loved the vid....and the fredom of flying is exactly why I have flown hang gliders since 1977...and yes also why youtube is one fantastic source new and old flying freely
Those seatbelts were limiting his freedom though
As well as the plane that towed him. The money that both planes had cost. The price of the cameras. The location. The communication equipment to tell local airports where they were. Idk, seems kinda not free lol
Pep Aroni are you ****** dum b? You know what “freedom” means? It has nothing to do with the word “free” as for free stuff.

That looks terrifying. Guy should be a steel worker with that love of heights.
W R I’m scared witless of heights but was a glider pilot for years. Rock climber too. Somehow, if I can reconcile that the safety systems are in place then I can convince myself it’s okay. But I still can’t walk to the edge of a sheer drop without my toes curling into the ground. Go figure.

There is in fact a lot of sound, from the air rushing past, wires singing and wood creaking.

What a beautiful little aircraft! I love how you're so in the open and can see all around. Flying that must be the closest thing you can get to being a bird. Nice smooth landings too.
Nope the closest thing I'd being on a jetpack which is already invented
@@toboabegunde4306 Disagree, most closer of bird, is Base wingsuit, I fly everything except helicopter. With wing suit, we take off like bird of prey, we fly at similar speed to them (not as good, far from it) and the most important is that we use our body for direction. This aircraft look fun but it need a plane to pull him, so no réel freedom.
That is such a lovely looking glider. I have cut power on my ultralight many times and even glided down from 10,000 feet but this glider design looks so cool and must be such a joy to fly 🙂
Wow, this is so awesome! Perfect soundtrack, great video with stick from above, rudder pedals, etc. Was mesmerized by the vantage point. I've flown ask 21, quick silver ultra lights, diamond aircraft. Would love to fly one of these. ..sweet! Thanks so much for posting

I love flying but this takes it to another level.
The possibility of catching a bumblebee with my nuttsack whilst wearing dolphin shorts 0:30 would cause me more anxiety than actually flying in a popsicle stick airplane.
Yes, I get it ... classic glider ... the way flying ought to be ... total freedom in the air ... closest thing to flying purity! Trouble is, I'd simply scream and scream until I threw up!!!!!! That being said, it's simply breathtaking to see such freedom and joy in the air - from a camera held by the pilot.
That would be pure adrenaline climax!
SG-38, that's how I started to learn to fly. But via bungee-launch, at Dörnberg near Kassel Germany. First flight ... solo!

This is the ultimate freedom! Barefoot and all! Envy you!
A proper gentleman's aircraft. I love it!
He reminds me of myself when I was young man. A very cool dude!!!
As a sailplane pilot myself, I have watched many videos of pilots flying $100K gliders and was getting bored with it. This video is a pure delight -- the real joy of flying! And for those of you that think the pilot is crazy: from what I can tell, the aircraft is well designed and constructed, albeit minimalist, and the pilot well trained. I think the biggest risk he faced was walking his glider back to park it (after landing) while barefoot, and getting his foot stung by a bee.
Hahaha brilliant :) thank you for your comment, pure joy😉
I don't think one of these is going to be cheap either, provided you can even find an owner of one of the handful that are still in existence who is willing to sell it to you.

Good lord. Those men have balls of steel. I can’t even look below a 3 story veranda.
Well, that's not courage it's just an affinity for heights and flying when what you have is a phobia.
It's possible to overcome vertigo, you just have to force yourself, push out of that self imposed bubble you've put yourself in.
You must be a girl.
@Joe Devola No, because there's no evidence at all that we are reincarnated or have past lives. Everything we know or remember is stored in the brain, so when die that brain rots away. So how, would your memories transfer to a new body if reincarnation were to be a real thing? Better to go on the reasoned assumption that you only get one life, don't waste it believing there will be anything else, savour every moment like it's your last, because in reality, it is.
@Joe Devola The reality we are living in, is 3 demensional though? I'm not a cartoon character.
In Finland is few copies of that named Harakka (Magpie) I, II and III. Many world war time aces learned to fly with that. Best ones in the world.

Remember my late father's stories how he learned in the 1930's to fly in a kind of glider like this .but it had a beam in front of your head . first lessons only sitting in it and holding the wings level. followed by a cable starts and each time some higher. till they were allowed to go high enough and disconnect from the cable
