LYRICS
Now that they know information,
Is just a currency and nothing more,
Keep the truth in quotations,
‘Cause they keep lying through their fake teeth.
Ooh,
They’re trying hard to weaponize,
You and I,
We’ll never take it,
They’re asking for a second try,
You and I,
Will never take it.
Why cure disease of confusion,
When you’re the treatment facility?
How can we seek restitution,
When they keep lying through their fake teeth?
Ooh,
They’re trying hard to weaponize,
You and I,
We’ll never take it,
They’re asking for a second try,
You and I,
Will never take it.
They’re asking for a second try,
You and I will never take it from ‘em.
The summer I watched the tube,
I saw enough,
Taught myself to play guitar,
Tearing it up,
And my advice on those two things
That I picked up,
You better educate yourself
But never too much.
Never take it,
Ooh,
They profit from a great divide,
You and I will never take it.

    • Tom L that's a great perspective, i felt like it's similar to the whole "be yourself, but not like that" attitude we see today. a large portion of society wants to keep people dumbed down so they can manipulate people and have control without people questioning them. as far as the lore goes, it's dema trying to use their propaganda to keep people dumbed down and silence the rebellion. i hope i explained that well

    • Mmmm not really. This feels more like Tyler complaining that people expect him to advocate for values when he wishes he could be complicit, even or especially when it’s a polarized situation, and there’s a clear injustice. Honestly this song kind of gives off strong political moderate vibes, which won’t sit well with his general audience.

      @ht21@ht213 жыл бұрын
    • @@ht21 literally none of his fan base has complained about this song because we understand it’s about Dema...but when you look at it from a real world’s perspective is not about some trolls on the Internet who tried to cancel him. It’s about the negative state of the world and how it can get overwhelming and how governments are corrupt most of the time and sometimes we get fed bullshit so we have to “educate” ourselves. Just not too much cause there’s so much shit going on we’re gonna go crazy with all the information accesible to us. This is like their Vietnam song lol.

    • I think that line is actually one of the best in the song. There's three ways to see it: 1. Don't waste your time over-educating yourself, and then doing nothing with it; don't let potential be written on your tombstone. 2. Don't educate yourself more than you need to, because educational systems are not immune to corruption, just like any other institution. False narratives and brainwashing can come with that Harvard degree. 3. the line could also be read as: "yes, educate yourself (but not too much because then you will be able to resist us)".

I understand bands change but the piano banging highs are something I can't find anywhere else and Tyler stopped making them :(

There are themes of escapism through drugs and lying to yourself to feel a fake sense of happiness until it all falls apart and a few other dark themes. This album is not nearly as happy as it seems once you pay a bit more attention. But I hope that Tyler is happy.

For example, the song WDBWOTV, makes so much more sense especially NOW. So yeah, he is most definitely awake, but I personally believe he’s been awake for some time now.

  • This feels a lot to me like a critique on the media, with all the "we'll never take it" and "they profit off a great divide", etc. Also the bass and drums in this song are a bop. Edit: Now that I think about it, this song is kind of a sequel to "We Don't Believe What's on TV"

    • exactly. I think the whole album is criptic like others we just have to look deeper. I think our boys are telling us that this is not they wanna do. this is the label making them do this and if we fans stay true and stick with our boys then no one can touch them and they can make the music they like. Also the album maybe poppy because Tyler is genuinely happy because of Rosie and Jenna and is spending more time with his family. He made out of dema

The guitar symbolizes learning about social issues, “but never too much” meaning don’t take everything they say into full account. “Lying through their teeth” those who don’t listen to his music or aren’t his longtime fans wouldn’t know who he is and take his actions at face value and blow them out of proportion.
