LYRICS
Keep your bliss.
There's nothing wrong with this.
Keep your sunny days.
Leave us in the rain.
Tie strings to our hands and feet,
to rain on your parade.
You can have the weekends.
We will leave between them.
Keep your pills, save your breath,
and don't ever forget...
Get out of our way.
We're moving sideways.
Welcome to Mulberry Street. Yeah.
So move out of our way
We're pushing sideways
Keep sidewalk under your feet.
Ain't no sunny skies
'Til you finally realize
That everybody relies on synthetic highs
They find someone to prescribe
Keep your bliss.
There's nothing wrong with this.
We just want to feel it all.
Keep your pills, save your breath,
and don't ever forget...
Get out of our way.
We're moving sideways.
Welcome to Mulberry Street. Yeah.
So move out of our way
We're pushing sideways
Keep sidewalk under your feet.
When times aren't the best.
And I'm on the edge
I'll listen for a song in the distance...
Mulberry Street, so good to see you...
and don't ever forget...
Get out of our way.
We're moving sideways.
Welcome to Mulberry Street. Yeah.
So move out of our way
We're pushing sideways
Keep sidewalk under your feet.

    • @Matthew McGhie I think it's a good separation from artist and art. The artists, Josh Dun, Tyler Joseph, the families, mental health is probably just generally in a better place, the sound of this album would say so. BUT conceptually with the trilogy of albums, BF, Trench, and SAI, SAI is a really depressing story about giving into your DEMAns (demons) and acting happy and being fake. Losing to the Bishops and letting them control their lives (or music). There's so many ways you can connect this album to other concepts, such as the current music industry really not liking negative music that much. I mean think about it, I didn't hear things from Trench on the radio that often at all.

    • Yeah that's probably it. Tyler is feeling better and his happiness is translating. But I'm not there, still pretty miserable, so this album to me feels like.. you know when you're just keeping to yourself and someone tells "you should smile!" and it ruins your mood even more? Like that. The album probably hits different when you're on the up..

It’s very well written lyrically and so much effort was put into the storyline of the album and the instrumentals capture the exact vibe and story they were going for. Vocals amazing. Since Tyler and josh are being monitored in this album by the bishops could it be that they were drugged up to put on this happy upbeat tone but leak the truth through dark undertones EDIT: The bliss line reminds me so much of the psychological drug from Far cry 5 that it keeps me thinking my theory is true especially since the Dr Seuss book on Mulberry street is about a boy who “saw” things there which weren’t actually there

  • This song encouraged me to get the help I need, through therapy. “Keep your bliss, there’s nothing wrong with this.” My mental health issues control my entire life, yet I refuse to get help. I’ve always felt like I could handle it on my own, or that it wasn’t as bad as I thought. Like I’m just faking it for attention. These lyrics are like the voice in my head telling me “you’re fine, you don’t need help,” when in reality, I do. I have to ignore that voice, and do what’s best for me. I want to get better.

He shared in a 2021 interview with Zane Lowe that this was where he and Josh were taken on his first visit to New York City, and he wanted to capture what it felt like to be in the midst of the largest city in the U.S. with this song.

  • can we just appreciate the fact that ever since Rosie came to this world Tyler's music became happier? edit: I wanna rephrase this. To me (at least) it seems Tyler wants Rosie to remember his happy songs rather than his songs that are about depression and stuff like that. So I think that's why ever since Rosie was born, Tyler wants to make more upbeat songs (even if the lyrics are about sadness) for Rosie. I think it's really sweet

    • Not to be pessimistic, but there's some evidence that shows depressed people with children ending up feeling strong emotions of guilt when debating suicide because of the amount of investment in them - so they hide it. It's irrational thinking, and I sure want to believe he's making happy songs because he wants to. Buuut you should keep that in mind - Linkin Park's Chester Bennington also had 6 (?) kids, made a happy pop album, and then committed suicide couple months later.

Some songs aren't a bop to everyone but the point in their music is to help at least one person. And if it did that for anyone at all then in my opinion it's a successful album

    • Partway through the "nothing wrong with this" line gets ironic; all the prescriptions and drugs (like the Bliss patch in an episode of David Tennant "Doctor Who"), is what the doctors are telling you to do, even if it's only addressing symptoms and not the cause. STILL, Tyler takes it back from the brink by the end of the song to have and keep his own happiness, even if it's only external sometimes and the internal struggle is so real.

  • love this song In the Apple Music interview Tyler said: "Mulberry Street for me it was, there's a street in New York City where Little Italy is, and it was the first time that I ever left Ohio. My manager at the time we had some meetings with like record labels and stuff, and it was just a classic kid going to the big city moment. He'd lived in New York City for a few years in the past, so he knew where was going. He took Josh and I and a couple of friends of mine that are still kind of touring with us and creating with us and stuff. And he took us to Little Italy and we had this you know, it was just like I've never felt more out of place in my life. Being in New York City, you know, like we're going to go get pizza. This isn't the pizza I'm used to, you know, just something that simple, kind of really reminding you that you're not at home anymore. And so this song to me I was wanting to imagine that feeling again.''
