I think Josh is just an omnipresent drum deity that shows up whenever someone drops sick beats.
The way this song is built just makes so much sense for the music video. Since this is Clancy (Tyler) and the Torchbearer (Josh) just singing and playing drums to a room full of Dema citizens, they don’t have all the music in the background. The music we hear is not as “musical” as most of their songs because it is an enhanced song that is played with one man singing/rapping and one playing drums. For this reason, there’s not much chord progression or stage taking melodies and the Drums and Vocals are mixed to be the focus of the song.

Twenty One Pilots is a band where a certain intelligence and ability to step back and put things into perspective is required. It's not just music, it's a world of its own that you can't find anywhere else, it's a story behind every piece of music and lyric that plunges you into a personal reflection. The lyrics may be "far-fetched" as some would say about most of their songs, but there's a real meaning and it's up to us to find it, and everyone is free to interpret in their own way. It's not for nothing that when we asked Twenty One Pilots to describe their first logo and "why" they'd chosen it, they replied that for them, it represented twenty one pilots, and that it was THEIR interpretation, and that it was up to us to interpret it as we felt and wanted, because everyone is different and feels different things. I think that's what makes Twenty One Pilots one of the best bands of all time, objectively speaking. The fact that it's a world apart, that each album represents a particular musical identity, the fact that the lyrics are cryptic and open to thousands of possibilities, not to mention the instrumentals, which are the best I've ever heard. Honestly, whether you like their music or not, you've got to admit they're a brilliant talent. But you still need to be able to think...
I have a feeling this might become my favorite album of theirs.

I started listening when I was 15, I'm 24. Blurryface to Clancy.... It's been the best years of my life.
The German, French, and Spanish in the beginning. The older Trench music. The Josh Dun name drop. The Spanish lyric. The Bend Symbol referencing Nicolas Bourbaki. The Ukrainian on Josh's neck. So much stuff, missing many here. But so many people feel represented and fulfilled by this initial single released off the new album. Perfect way to introduce us into Clancy and our trip back to Trench. Tyler is an addict with a pen and I'm an addict of what is written.

The entire song is amazing, but my jaw dropped with the intro, they sampled Leave the city on a higher key, then the message in multiple langages, then Wlecome back to Trench, then THEY SAMPLED BANDITO, and then JOSH ABSOLUTELY DESTROYED THOSE DRUMS. I can also speak about the lore SO MUCH, I LOVE THIS SO MUCH.

Wow this entire song is like peak fan service. Namedropping Josh Dun, being direct with the lore by mentioning Clancy, you've got a call back to everyone's favorite album Trench and a sort of remixing of an existing song, you've got some German here some Spanish there, classic TJ rapping, tempo change. Tyler's writing has always been so cryptic, but it feels like he's directly acknowledging the fans here. So self-aware it's surreal.

Interesting point. I have definitely seen theories speculating that Tyler/Clancy will turn evil. I can agree that I think that the power and control that Clancy gets from seizing may go to his head... but I don't think that Clancy will ever become a villain. I do think that the struggle with himself in that sense will be a a major theme in the album though, which will be pretty cool to see/hear.
