  • "Depression is a selfish emotion" god damn boy. Love that. I don't think it's always that simple but holy shit do many ppl need to hear that. I still remember the day I started thinking like that.

    @philippecote8571@philippecote85714 жыл бұрын
    • @Dredd King "I don't think it's always that simple but holy shit do many ppl need to hear that". While I respect your disdain for my statement, I understand that it's not always the case but many people claim depression without any significant chemical imbalance is what I believe Dom and I are referring to. Moreso sadness or a deep need for fulfillment. Hope you have a nice day :)

      @philippecote8571@philippecote85714 жыл бұрын
    • @Dredd King 99% of depression is because of circumstance. Ask yourself this: "Would I feel like this if I was living my dream, sitting on the beach in the sunshine and free to do whatever I want?" If the answer to that is no, then your depression is not caused by a chemical imbalance. (The solution is accepting your current circumstance and getting to work changing it.)

    • @@FREEDOMFORUKRAINE2024 99% eh? sources for this data? ""Would I feel like this if I was living my dream, sitting on the beach in the sunshine and free to do whatever I want?" If the answer to that is no, then your depression is not caused by a chemical imbalance." You have fallen foul to the illusion of human desire, in our minds our happiness is always contingent upon having something we don't already possess (and this is a necessary neurological mechanism that motivates us). In reality, it doesn't work this way and in fact, possessing everything you ever dreamed of can have a negative effect on your happiness (if you don't believe me, take a look at all the celebrities that achieved their life goals and then embarked on a downward spiral, Tyson Fury is a good example). You also seem to be of the opinion that a "chemical imbalance" and circumstantial discontent are mutually exclusive. Every single aspect of your consciousness is contingent upon chemical brain states, so you could technically ascribe a chemical imbalance as the cause for any negative subjective experience even that of fleeting circumstantial dissatisfaction. The bottom line is depression is complex, and a myriad variables specific to each individual case could contribute to it. To arbitrarily claim that 99% of people just need to "work on changing their circumstances" is short sighted and not helpful.

    • I use to be super depressed. You couldnt get much farther down then i was. I literal didnt do anything for two years but work. I went from having many friends and associates to none. I gained about 50 lbs. Became overweight. Never left the house but not because i have fun stuff to do inside. I dislike tv and videos gsmes only entertain me for a short period of time. It was complete self isolation. Then one day i realized it was all in my head. I was feeding off the sadness to make myself feel better in a screwed up way. I was using self pity and watching the workd go around me without me in it. The day you realize you are doing it to yourself is the day you become strong enough to beat it. And the truth is those scars will always be there. Nothing will take away those years and thoughts but hiding in ny house, afraid to live life was just cowardice and it solved nothing. Sadly, too many people deign this basic truth because its too hard for them to accept they put themselves in the position they are in. Its much easier to say im depressed than it is to say, i have to fight through these tough times to make it out. There are days when a song comes on the radio that i wanna hide inside and loath in self pity, but i dont. I get up and get shit done. I just wish i would have known this before.

  • This was great, Dom is the man!! Brendan's interviewing has improved a lot over the years. I still think he could try a little harder to avoid cutting off his guests, and maybe just give the person he's interviewing a little more time to finish their train of thought. There were a couple times where it looked like Dom was going to take the direction of the conversation deeper but didn't get the chance to, like when Brendan was asking him about the the darkness Dom went through when injured. It looked as if Dom was just getting comfortable with the question and Brendan cut him off from elaborating because it looked like that was the end of it.. Anyway that's my constructive feedback lol.

    @suresh211@suresh2114 жыл бұрын
    • That's a great analysis man, he might be afraid of the awkward silences so he finds a way to transition it. He's just not as smooth as some of the other interviewers. I think for me, one of the best interviewers are Narduwar and Sean Evans because of how knowledgeable they are of their guest how they know when to give them the space to talk. I think not a lot of people know this, but interviewing really takes a lot of patience, from holding on to what you want to say next as an interviewer to making sure they finish answering. I think Joe Rogan is exceptional at doing that. Finally It also requires an ample amount of empathy so that you know if they have said what they wanted to say or their is still something left unsaid and gauging if they're comfortable talking about the subject etc.
