Vera did get a bit lucky given that Suga's foot gave out, but the real question is just how much Vera's kick affected Sugas prior injury. I think that the injury was an easy out for Suga to blame his loss on, whereas Vera should accept the fact that he did get a bit lucky, but his kick clearly contributed to the collapse of his leg; not just the misstep by Suga. At the end of the day, if the injury never happened, I still think it would have been an incredible fight.

  • I don’t know why I had a negative perception of Vera heading into the O’Malley fight and I won’t pretend to have known him well prior to that, but I can’t get enough of this guy now. There’s a humble confidence to him. Also, that calf kick was legit and it caused O’Malley’s nerves to collapse which is what created the “twisted ankle” movement where he went down. It wasn’t a fluke, it was a hell of a kick that took a leg from Suga mid-fight. He won. No asterisks. Vera won.
