The big hill climb race in Liwa, United Arab Emirates in January 2019.
I have been to the race several times before(see my other videos) But before 2019 i have not been there for a couple of years, so it was very nice to see the race again! I hope you like the video as much as i like this crazy car event!

@@PeterBjorck Technically, nitrous isn't forced induction, but it is adding oxygen that a NA car would not have. The consensus is that a NA car is all motor and no power adders. Great video by the way!

No wonder it's so expensive to buy a jz series engine, half of them are grenaded here.

I thought most of them run 1FZ which is a 4.5L toyota engine and TB42 which are just bigger versions of the RB
They arent even 2jz, its 1fz45 and tb48 engines, its original engines to these suvs

Yep bad idea... if they where following other cars... there's no difference from this to some one having open face turbos on a paved drag strip.
@@Not_Hans Well I think there might be a touch more sand just flying around say the desert than your typical drag strip. Either way these guys can afford all the parts they can dream of.

Love how the first one was NA, sounded well tuned and well built, and did it like it was a Sunday drive. Everyone else blew up.

I dont think they removed the turbos, they just have multiple trucks that look the same and have the same livery. An N/A engine runs at a vastly different static compression ratio compared to a forced induction engine, amongst other differences. With an N/A engine the way they (try to) make up for the lack of forced induction is by achieving a much wider hp curve through higher static and dynamic compression ratios, different rod to stroke ratio, higher revs, and seemingly paradoxically a transmission geared to keep the truck in the power band as much as possible. I believe the reason why the forced induction trucks start closer to the hill is because they are able to build (some) boost before they launch. What I am amazed about is how they manage not to over spin the engine when they catch air. I wonder if it's a sensor on the suspension or just a powerful ignition/fuel cut.
That would explain why so many engines grenaded

surprised by the lack of air filters for the sand, I assume there is not manly 4.0l inline 6's left in the world after this haha.
Engine ain't gonna live anyway.
The boost, massive nitrous shots and clutch dumps seem to get them long before the sand has a chance to do any damage. This is probably pocket change to these guys.
Why force air through a restrictive filter when it's likely the engine will only survive a couple runs anyway.
Who needs an air filter when the engine is only going to last for a couple runs before it needs a full rebuild?
one crew car for every category 3 to 4 spare engines fully tuned, on site ready to be installed who needs air filters engines are disposable according to one of the guys i talked to plus sometimes 2 or 3 cars for a category

my dad every thing you just said is the embodiment of an armchair expert. Cars start in 4th gear on a 40-50degree angle in freaking sand... These engines are putting out more than 1k hp running forced induction and nitrous lmfao.... I enjoyed how much of the 6cylinder cars that blew where running RB’s probably 26’s and they love to explode over 700hp due to the block cracking from twisting. But hey man I am sure you know all this since you’re the expert on hill climbing and all 😂

Doug Savery Can literally see hundreds of feet lost in a run from no filter. makes ya wonder when they blow as they got really close to the finish, of a filter would have got them there.

Its manual, nog high of low range, its Dubai not America haha
They us stick shift not auto they just all have minimum 1000whp to 3500whp so they start in higher gear so they don't have to shift gear just anti lag boost in to 4th/5th gear
Ratios must be somewhat low I was just thinking maybe 3:21 gears
4th gear is usualy the strongest gear in a manual transmission , high or low range in the transfer case depends on the axle ratio to reach the desired wheel speed.

Turbo filter is restrictive up to 50hp it can hold the engine back

These vehicles are made to run less than 6 seconds at a time from what I've seen. You might be missing the point. This is max horsepower by any means necessary. Longevity is not even in the planning.

Are there any regulations on gearboxes? Seems many of those engine failures could be prevented with a custom gearbox with really tight gear ratios in order to save the engine.
