Your comments on winter driving with a 40k load sound like me when I was a teenage driver. In winter conditions I had no fear and felt in control. I loved the feel of breaking the rear loose or spinning brodies. Always impatient with those more cautious than I when following following them. I would as you feel comfortable traveling at the speeds you suggest while going forward. It's when you need to stop that's the problem. It's one thing to be rear ended by a Prius, but another by a tractor trailer. Best of luck driving with your over confident attitude and I hope I don't see you in another video of Bonehead Truckers.

I drove a truck for a two truck company for 2 months in 1988 (so clearly I'm an expert 😂). I waited out the snow in a truckstop in Ohio. The company owner said I should have kept moving like his other driver. The other driver wrecked in the same storm. For that and other reasons, I am no longer a truck driver. I am really glad some people tougher than me still haul the goods that we need.
@johngray966910 ай бұрын
I think you were wise to wait out the storm. No load is worth your life or someone else's. Also never out-drive your abilities. Just because a vehicle is rated to do something doesn't mean YOU can do something. Mountain Man Mike has 20-Plus years of experience driving in snow in mountains. And of course the only way to learn how to drive in snow and ice is to ACTUALLY Drive in snow rain or ice as well as listening to advice from those who have done it for years. We learn by doing. But you're not born with that experience. That only comes over time.

I thought Oregon left it up to the driver as to whether or not to use chains? FWIW, I learned to drive in the snowbelts of the northeast, and we NEVER used chains (well, maybe a farmer or 2, but that was more for mud..). Whenever I used to head to the Pacific NW, I aways tried to cross the mountains in Oregon, just to avoid having to hang-iron. Here in the northeast, we always make certain we have good lugs on our drive treads. A lot of west-coast drivers prefer non-lugged drives, because they ride better, make less noise, and give better fuel economy, with the downside being that you must hang iron anytime it snows.
