In this video, you'll learn everything you need to know about ceramic coatings. Ceramic coatings are commonly called "glass coating", "nano coating", or "9H ceramic coating" or "SiO2 coating".
There are a lot of false claims about ceramic coatings, which we'll cover here, but there are also incredible benefits that they provide, such as:
- enhancing the gloss and appearance of your paint
- providing UV protection
- making the vehicle much easier to clean thanks to self-cleaning properties
- protect your paint from the elements and from bird droppings, acid rain, bug guts, tree sap, etc
- provide super hydrophobic, rain-repelling properties
- provide many years of protection

Hello Pan I subscribed yesterday and like your videos and trying to learn how to take care of my car the right way but in this video is the high spot noticeable will I be able to see it
👌👌
Thank you so much, Pan. Can I use "Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wash & Wax 1.6L" for regular washing for my newly ceramic coated BMW X3 ?
I love it when you guys get together and do these videos. Talk about the encyclopedias of car detailing knowledge. Love it love it love it.
Thank you.
Thanks!!

Thank you
Pan and Yvan are like pancakes and syrups magic!!
Thank you
😅 I love this
I would even go as far as to say peanut butter and jelly. By themselves they are great and can be paired with other things and do wonderful work but when they come together something just stands out, like you said yourself, it's magical.
@@cotyhamilton8624 I love your description!

Great informative info on so many ceramic variables, even though I've done a few coatings to my personal cars, I am always picking up 'tips & tricks' on this subject. thanks again Pan

Thank you Pan and Yvan for another great video! Well explained and educational. I've learned a lot from you guys! Thank you again!

Thanks Jacky!
Love that exchange! Following your earlier advice I booked a professional to give my new car a ceramic coating to replace my Fusso Coat for the years to come, and this video takes care of a lot of the questions I do still have. Thanks a lot!
Thank you.

Thanks Josh!
The first coating I ever applied was the 5 year coating from DIY Detail. It was very easy to apply the results were amazing! The truck was a 2005 and it looks like it just came off the assembly line. Thanks for all the info!!
Thank you
Awesome job guys. I am getting every thing together to coat my car and this is just what I needed. THANK YOU
Thank you for watching!
Thanks
It's been a little over a year since I coated my car. Yesterday I used diy detail clay towel and boy ill tell you that's exactly what it needed. I was unaware of how much contamination was in the clear coat. It brought my coating back to how it was at day 2 last year. And the clay towel helped get off very stubborn road tar that came from summer time highway driving. Fantastic products that I can't recommend enough
Thank you
What a wonderful video full of information which took me years to learn. I cannot recommend the DIY lineup enough as all their products work as advertised. I have learned so much from you two that I want to say thank you. On a separate note Marco at CarBoost has been amazing and I cannot recommend him enough either. Thank you for the educational video!!!

Great video Pan! Living in the rust belt of Pennsylvania, when it's sub zero in the winter for a week or more, NO precip, & the roads are dry, should we hose off @ a self serve, go to a touchless car wash, or just leave it dirty until the weather is warmer. I'm a senior & won't think twice of going to a self serve if it's above 32°f. 👍
Completely informative! Thank you for sharing!

What a great video Two of the best minds in the detailing industry. Do you recommend putting an opened bottle of ceramic coating in the refrigerator or in the house where temp is controlled Not too hot or cold. Sounds like wrapping in foil may benefit as well.

learned a lot.. especially removing some light love marks from a coating. i have a 2 layer graphene coating from glassparency..it's on for 3 years now and still the gloss and hydrofobics are insane.. but there are some very light scratches that are annoying me.. p.s. the europe link can be removed, because they only do orders in the UK and currently NOT to europe (says in shipping)
Can’t wait for the next duo video of you guys!

Hey Pan I would like to see you do a review on Feynlab v3 ceramic coating how the installation process is that would be cool. Love your videos
Very timely video . I did a wash and 2 decons on my Ram Truck yesterday .and today another wipe down with surface preparation . Then put two coats of Gyeon Q2 Mohs 2018 version on the truck an hour a part had enough from the 30 mil bottle to do the Wheel's and the truck bed cover ... Tomorrow I will put a layer of Cure on it .. After reading and watching a few videos I was thinking this was going to be a nightmare . But I was surprised the coating went on easy wipes off after 3 minutes very easily outside temperature is 68 f I borrowed my buddy's garage so I worked inside .a somewhat controlled environment . Looking forward to tomorrow to put the cure to protect the coating while it fully cures Thanks to your channel I'm very confident I can clean and polish anything Thanks again Clive I actually did the application process with a few round aplicaters and found that circular motion worked very well .no arm fatigue.. and maybe used 4 in total with 6 cloths I'm in Winnipeg Canada so I'm getting a head start on winter prep
Perfect.
First car has CQuartz 3.0 and CQuartz SIC combo, its really nice and is lasting extremely well after a 14 months. I am thinking about DIY detailing Graphene coating or Gtechiq CSL and EXO V5 combo on my second car. I have six months to decide, but either way its getting DIY detailing ceramic coating inside for sure. Yvan always comes across very humorous and always happy to see him on KZhead
Thank you
Great content as always by both you and Yvan. Question not really related to ceramic coating, but you mentioned clay towel in the video. How would you rank the finest comparing the different ones available on the market between the rag company, DIY detailer and P&S. TIA
DIY Detail is the finest(ultra fine)P&S and TRC are fine grade.
Hello, first off, the best channel for car detailing on the tube! What is your opinion on Xpel brand fusion plus ceramic coating? Our 24 Camaro SS made it in and going to have a company coat it. I love to detail, but want to maybe leave the ceramic coating job to the professionals. Thanks Pan!

Thanks!
Pan and DIY detail has got me addicted to cleaning cars inside and out. DIY detail has amazing videos and products are top notch!

Such a great video, one of many from both your channels. I love the level of detail you share. I would love to foam canon my car at home. Unfortunately in Vancouver BC it's illegal to wash your car in your garage, driveway or street. legal if you are washing over gravel or grass though. Do your shops require water reclamation?
Thanks Randall! In Quebec, there is no water reclamation required, and we can wash our cars in our driveways, thankfully.
Great video and very informative! In regards to using automated car washes, I don't like them either. However, here in Ohio during the winter we have no choice if we want to get the salt off. I will only use touch-less and mainly for the undercarriage wash. I wish I had a heated garage to work in, sometimes our cars go months without washing!
its better to go through a car wash than let the salt and dirt fester on the surface for months
Very nice episode! One question though. Is it possible to apply a recoat using a different brand with a potentially different formula than the initial one?
Yes
Awesome video Pan and Yvan. I can attest to Yvan's claim that his DIY Detail ceramic coatings have a one-hour cure time. I had applied his 3-year graphene coating to the hood of my car and a storm cloud showered it with water one and a half hours later and the coating stayed intact. This is huge for people who don't have garage access (like me) who want to ceramic coat their vehicle without the concern of the coating getting wet a few hours later. Keep up the great work guys.
Thank you.
Thanks Archie!
Excellent video. 👌
Thank you.
Thank you!
Great video guys! Can you define for us what is a "high spot" and how do we spot them and remove them?
A high spot is an excess amount of coating that hasn’t been leveled. The best way to remove them, is to avoid them in the first place. If you do get one, you can polish it off.
It looks visually like a dark spot/blemish.
Great video! Are the DIYdetail coatings available in Europe, more specifically Norway?
Thanks! They are available in the UK. See links in the description under the video.
I have a 2023 Corvette which was purchased in 2022 and had a professional detailer put a ceramic coating on it and it took him 6 hrs to do the job, because being the body was fiberglass, he did a special prepare on it, I think. But then I could not pick the car up because it was raining. I paid around $ 600 dollars for the service and did a great job. But now when I us a spray foam from one of you video the surface is so slick the foam just flies off. Thanks for a great video!
Thank you

What can you say about Kamikaze Zipang? After a thorough DIY Paint Correction using Rupes Yellow Foam Pads and Sonax Perfect Finish with a DA Polisher, would you recommend applying Zipang by a DIY'er or have it applied by a PRO?

Hi @PanTheOrganizer, Really nice video and a good idea to have these all together in one material. I do have on question related to the DIY coatings, especially the 5 years one, seems at a decent price but there is no mention of the PH resistance level. Would there be a way for us to find this out?
The PH resistance is 3-13
@@diydetailofficial Thanks for the answer, I think I have found my next coating :). I guess this should also be marketed on your official site. Just waiting for this product to be distributed in EU (at least in DE if not on smaller markets like RO).

Hey Pan! Yet another helpful and informative video! Thanks for posting. At 30:44 (in the video), you asked Ivan for his thoughts on using APC pretreatments on ceramic coated cars before implementing the washing process. He recommended quality APCs over products like "Super Clean." This bummed me out as I have been implementing Super Clean (diluted of course) as my APC pretreatment. Admittedly, I LOVE using Super Clean as it gets the job done and it's VERY affordable. I wash my car once a week as I drive a lot for work and in dusty, dirty, rural areas. I don't want to do any long-term damage to my car, but can Super Clean really be that bad if numerous pro detailers use it (Phil, from Miranda Detailing and Luke Wilson, from Wilson Auto Detailing, to name a few)?
I wish this video was available before I applied my graphine. Great info guys
Thanks!
Hi Pan! Great video like always my question is for coating outside if I wash my truck on a Saturday polish it, but don’t have time to coat it that day. Will I be able to coat it the next day reason, being with anything fall on it any dust or any or types of particular matter. Thank you .
Yes but do an IPA wipe or panel prep spray before applying the coating the second day.
@@PanTheOrganizer thank you Pan. Also I have a question about Tesla’s white interior i normally use P&S interior cleaner? Is it safe to use? I’m looking at getting the colourlock system. Any recommendations would be very helpful and thank you for answering.
Hey, pen, the organizer remember way back they had liquid glass sealant pretty good, but it would still do water spots. But the gloss was incredible.
They still sell it today, I remember applying multiple coats of that in the early 80’s
Hey Pan, thanks for a terrific channel. I just bought a new car and wasn't planning on ceramic coating it right away so I put some Griots 3 in 1 ceramic spray on. I am now thinking of trying the DIY Detail Ceramic Coating. How should I go about stripping the 3 in 1 off? Should I use Griots Surface Prep to strip it before using the DIY Polish? Thanks again!

Larry from Ammo NYC makes a ceramic wax for coated vehicles. It's not cheap but it's fantastic stuff and gives a wonderful glow that some of us miss from a wax.
Great Video 👍very informative and debunking knowledge. Where is Ivan’s outfit? Shirt+butterfly bow tie?? Also it seems like there was some constructions going on in the background. That was painful in the headset 😅
The dressed up look is for me comfort clothing. Yes there was construction outside unfortunately.
So whats your take on Carpro's Dquartz ceramic coating ? imo having actual scratch and swirl resistance is really amazing. Pan you have to check them out!
I haven’t tested it yet.
I'm from Western Australia and Des from AutoFX here in WA corrected and ceramic coated my BMW 650 a few years back and did an amazing job. Since then I have always used a brand called Optix from AutoFX WA and it has always been very high quality. My ceramic coating lasted comfortably 5 plus years (WA has a fairly harsh climate) until I sold the car. I would love to see you trial this brand.

Hi! First, welcome to my channel. You discovered one of the biggest car detailing channels on KZhead as we surpassed 950,000 subscribers and we have over 125 million views! I have been detailing for 26 years and I love to share my knowledge and passion with my viewers. You found the right channel to help you learn everything about detailing. To answer your question. A new car is never new until it's properly detailed. - at the factory, the paint defects are often corrected quickly by rotary polishing which can leave marks and holograms, so polishing corrects those, before you lock that in long term with a ceramic coating for example. - vehicles are then transported by truck, train and boat so they are exposed to the elements, industrial fallout, brake dust, rail dust, etc - vehicles are often left at boat docks (when transported by boat) or in exterior parking lots for weeks or months, again being exposed to the elements - at the dealership, the vehicles are almost always poorly prepped using the same dirty water that was used for all the cars on a given day, and poor washing and drying methods leading to swirls and scratches - at the dealership, a layer of cheap wax or paint sealant is usually applied to attempt to make the paint glossy prior to delivery. It's crucial to remove any previous protection before you apply a ceramic coating, as coatings need to bond directly to a virgin clear coat. If you only plan on applying a regular carnauba wax or paint sealant though, you could decide to skip machine polishing, as those protectants can be applied over existing protection and it's not as crucial to prep the paint as well. I explain all of this in this popular video: kzhead.info/sun/hMuoqdZ7ZGd5gJs/bejne.html So you can better visualize the new car prep process, here are the steps I perform on a brand new car for my customers: Mercedes S 580: kzhead.info/sun/idWYpMqbrqSviYE/bejne.htmlsi=whord2_UEFSg28UW Aston Martin Vantage: kzhead.info/sun/gq-gkZexkYiKpKc/bejne.html Volvo XC60: kzhead.info/sun/p9p9cqadpZqPeXk/bejne.html Tesla Model Y: kzhead.info/sun/mtOhm9dwr4JrgZE/bejne.html Porsche 911 Carrera: kzhead.info/sun/Zcekmc2umXinpmw/bejne.html Mercedes AMG GT63S matte black: kzhead.info/sun/mLlxqstpo4qsi5E/bejne.htmlsi=oGxoCp8PWt7gTncV Audi Q7: kzhead.info/sun/p5uBc6aLjaCfrYU/bejne.html BMW M6 Gran Coupe: kzhead.info/sun/Y9B8admxgoqpa4k/bejne.html BMW M340i: kzhead.info/sun/mNiRmK6GmHhmeH0/bejne.html Audi RS3: kzhead.info/sun/aZhqnaWCnX16f4U/bejne.html Golf R: kzhead.info/sun/ndZqactsh4mApqM/bejne.html
I live alongside the Pacific In Baja, Mexico....about 100 feet from the 'high tide line". We get a LOT of "salt air" and sometimes salt spray. It's a brutal atmosphere for any type of unprotected metal. I have a black Acura SUV which I'm very protective of. I had been using McGuire's "Gold Plus" paste wax and having it hand washed every week with a microfiber mitt. All was well. About 1 year ago, I tried a ceramic coating by "NexGen". It went on ok and looked really good. Problem came with subsequent washes. I should also say that overnight, we get a sort of "dew" but mixed with salt. It leaves a grey haze when it dries (from the salt I'd guess). When I got the car washed and they dried the car with microfiber towels, it left a stubborn greyish residue??? It was VERY difficult to remove. I finally reverted to using the McGuire's paste wax out of pure frustration. Any tips or ideas? Thanks!
With heavy mineral content a wax deals with it better. in your case, coating on the paint for protection, and then add wax over it.
Pan, I understand you said 2 weeks before a wash but to let the coating fully cure, but how much additional time should I wait to apply a topper like bead maker?
I would wait 2 weeks before washing the car and applying a topper.
Can Yvan please make a video in which he shows how to fill a once opended coating bottle with propane? Sounds interesting.
Awesome Video. In your opinion, Can Turtle Wax Flex Wax(graphene) be added to the top of a Ceramic coat(Kamikaze Myabi/Diy Detail etc) or just do 1 or the other?
Yes it can.
@@diydetailofficial Thanks for the quick reply. Is DIY Detail products available in Perth, Western Australia or Australia?

A question ive akways had with ceramics is if i use and AIO sio2 wax and a sio2 wash and coat, what are the differences in protection if im using the wash and coat for mt weekly washes? Is it aa good or worse orotection than a coating?
The best protection is a coating.
I love the videos. Quick question My son used “ the pink stuff” that’s what it’s called to get tree leaf red stains after raining and must of pressed to hard and now we have abrasive marks on the hood and trunk. How can we get rid of them by ourselves ? Thanks for your time.
Never ever use the pink stuff on any surface of the car. VERY abrasive. Needs to be polished with a machine polisher
Unfortunately you will need to polish the surface.
Pans face is hilarious when Ivan answers questions in the bluntest way possible, while also keeping to the high quality standard of politeness on either channels, and business in general. It reminds me of when i was a soil technician, and the superintendent was saying, "if i had a rifle id shoot that *********** for taking the heavy equipment away." Pans face reminds me of mine when someone approaches something as an AH (Alfred Henry as my grandpa would alaborate). Almost like a fast food manager dealing with a tough customer in a satisfying way for most, while youre just standing there after trying to solve it as polite as possible. Its quite hilarious to see Ivan being the most polite A**h*** possible, while pan is quite literally the perfect example of someone with customer service in their blood, lol.
Thank you, we definitely have fun making these
😂👍🏻
What do you think about CSI single stage polish?
Wow we all grew up thinking how bad it was to use dawn dish soap on a vehicle. Know we know lol. But it does great on windows and windshields too. Especially a smokers vehicle. Those can be very difficult to get squeaky clean
Good
I want the coating they put on "Knight Rider" that makes it able to crash through a wall and not dent. 😉
it was a stunt double coating, but you need sequential red lights in the front for it to work.
have you tried Gyeon Pure Evo? after using other coatings. it is by far the easiest coating I've used and one of the glossiest. I also applied it outside in the early morning without issues. best part is you can coat a whole panel or two and then go back and level without worrying. I didn't polish either as it was a brand new Tesla and had nearly no imperfections. my customer said if I didn't need to polish then don't so we inspected it and only took care of like three scratches. I did wash full decon iron remover , clay, ipa wipe then coated. 👍 whole job took 4 hours
So many mixed reviews on Pure Evo. Half the videos on YT are about how difficult it is to apply/wipe off. Most suggest Mohs Evo (+/- Skin) instead.
@KingRockets crazy I think Mohs is more difficult not much but Pure is definately glossier and can't sit on panel I left it like 7 minutes and it leveled so easy and no high spots
@@stephenlouden480 have you tried using Mohs Evo as well?
@KingRockets yes I love the whole Evo line I just like Pures shine and gloss best
@@stephenlouden480 Awesome, i'm new to their line, but cool to hear that you like Pure Evo the best. Did you top it with anything?
Whats your opinion on keeping a ceramic coating in the fridge and letting it warm up to room temperature before applying
No need unless it’s suggested by the manufacturer.
Wow this was awesome! But now I have so many questions. 1. if rain water does not create water spots, is it safe to use, or even worth using water collected in a rain barrel to wash a vehicle that lives outside anyway? Where I live we have very hard water, and I end up racing to towel dry before it air dries and I get water spots. 2. What waxes are safe to use over a ceramic coating. I was under the impression that Carnuba wax on ceramic is a no-no, but then I see tons of waxes that are sio2 and carnuba. Are those safe to use? I live in Buffalo NY and I'm scared of the salt this winter eating through the coating. 3. I have a professionally applied 7 year coating. I have a hair line scratch that is definitely not past the clear coat. You can barely see it if you're not looking for it, but I know its there and it's like a zit I'm dying to squeeze. I do not have access to the coating that was previously applied. If I mechanically paint correct that scratch, can I apply a consumer grade coating or even a spray coating to that panel afterwards, and if so, will it be noticeable? (obviously I would have to now keep the protection up every few months or so on that panel)
Gyeon wax is fine to put on a coating
A rain water collection barrel will need to be properly filtered. Yes a carnauba wax is great, you want to avoid silicones and abrasives. Yes lightly polish the whole panel and apply coating to it.
EXACTLY!
Genial, que padre que este el maestro Iván lacroix 🔥👍

Hello Ivan, Pan: I am going to be doing a paint decon that is for a vehicle that has no coating. I live in the upper Midwest. I am looking at both an Acidic and Alkaline Car Shampoo. Now for the Acidic based shampoo, besides car pro Descale can ypu make some other Acidic or lower ph shampoos please? Same goes for a great alternative for the Higher Alkaline based shampoos]; Something besides Carpro Lift or Bilt Hambers Shampoos . thank you
You can use a water spot remover for the low PH, and a quality APC for the high ph.
CarPro Descale is my go to lower pH for water spot removal, and Bilt Hamber Touch-Less or Auto-Foam higher pH for grime and road film removal.
Hey Pan all ur videos great as always! You’ve mentioned a lot of ceramic coatings use a topper to help with things like water spots. I see DIY Detail doesn’t have a specific topper for their ceramic s. What do u think about that? Their formula accounts for that? Or should I add something if I decide to go with their coating?
It depends on the brand. Some companies recommend that people use a topper every 2-3 months for maintenance, but we are seeing more and more brands come up with coatings that don't require any maintenance toppers. But we all like a bit more gloss and slickness after we wash our cars, so it's only natural that enthusiasts will use some kind of topper every now and then. The coating will still benefit from it. In fact, DIY Detail themselves have very good toppers: Ceramic Gloss & Quick Beads.
@@PanTheOrganizer Glad u mentioned that I wasn’t thinking of quick beads or the detailer of a topper to the coating thanks!
What would happen if you are a year into a 3-year coating and you want to add a longer 5-year coating? Can you add that on top? Will the deeper 3-year coating degrade and limit the lifespan of the 5-year coating that is now on top?
A light polish will prepare the existing coating for the new one.
I bought the dyi 3 year, but after watching sounds like I should have bought the 7 for the best quality. Is that correct? Or is applying a 3 year and then again after 3 years going it be better than a 7 year?
The choice is yours, both perform well.
So in order to apply a ceramic coating, I need to remove all the coatings I have out onto my car? I hesitate to do that because my garage queen is really beautiful. Am I understanding correctly that it is pretty pointless to apply a Graphene ceramic coat, I like Adams products, over the other coatings I have in place ? I do have a strip product from Adams, would that do the trick to remove without machine polishing?
Correct. Before applying a true coating in a glass bottle, you have to remove any previous protection as coatings need to bond directly to a virgin clear coat. And the only way to ensure 100% removal of any previous protection is by machine polishing. Welcome to my channel. You discovered one of the biggest car detailing channels on KZhead as we surpassed 930,000 subscribers and we have over 122 million views! I would like to see a propane preservation demo
The “and it’s fun” factor of detailing is why I do it. I just enjoy it. I like trying new products and methods. I like hand washing. I like time to just turn off my brain and focus on something.
Perfect
Could you do this for matte paint? Thanks!!
Yes

What’s the best spray to use over ceramic coatings to get rid of finger prints
Wash the vehicle.
hey pan, love your incredibly wonderful and informative videos. i have a problem. i am getting a new car soon and i want to get it ceramic coated. i live on long island new york and do not have a garage. our winters can be rough as i am sure you know living in canada. i know we should not go to a car wash unless it is touchless. unfortunately there is no such thing on long island. how do i keep the salt off my car? i am not going out there in below 32 degree temps to use the bucket and mitt only method and cannot use my outdoor hose when it gets that cold. can i go to a cloth car wash as opposed to the brushes? will that hurt the paint or ceramic coating? any suggestions? thank you for all you do. richard
Unfotunately, there isn't a miraculous answer in your case, as you don't have access to a garage to wash your car yourself. Your next best option is to visit a professional detailer on a monthly basis, or at least every other month, and have them perform a proper maintenance wash during winter months, until it gets nice enough outside where you can take care of your own vehicle. Or, another option is to go to a self-serve car wash, where they have heated wash bays (if there's such a thing near where you live) and bring your own buckets and tools and chemicals to wash your car in their facilities. But if you absolutely want to take your car to a car wash that uses brushes, keep in mind that your paint will inevitably get swirls and scratches. There's no way around that: the friction from the rollers or cloth bristles touching your paint will cause marring, swirls and scratches over time. Also, automatic car washes use very high pH soaps that over extended use could start weakening even the best coatings (as we're reaching limits of chemical resistance when you are talking about pH 12-13). So the coating will have much higher durability compared to a regular wax or sealant, but it likely won't reach the maximum claimed durability from the manufacturer. How long? Nobody can say for sure.
So I have a car that has OPTICOAT PRO on it. It’s 7 years old but doesn’t see the day light very often. I believe the coating is still there but is there something I can apply since it’s 7years old or not to worry about it?
No need to worry.
